Great video- This was TOTALLY refreshing to me. Because I paddle whitewater with a group of kayakers (I paddle an OC1) I sometimes forget the vast differences and fail to appreciate them. Thank you!
I can't like this video enough! Got into OC1ing this past year and going down the lower mad in a solo boat was a huge highlight of the year. It's fantastic to see the always friendly faces at MKC as well.
Ha! I appreciate the vote of confidence. :) I did have to shelf my ego for this one. But it was worth it. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to put my new canoe skills to the test on the Nahanni River this coming summer. I was supposed to go last summer, but of course, it had to be postponed .
Those pool noodle kneeling ankle pads! Genius!!! I can't imagine getting out of a WW canoe and not trip and stumble till the blood comes back to my feet.
What a trip! What a day! The right gear and the right boat can take you almost anywhere. What was that paddle, which broke? So I never get one of those! Side question: what watch is that on the woman's wrist? Is it one made to look like an old electronic watch? The canoes look awkward. Very unstable. Perhaps, they are experimental?
It was indeed! I don't remember what paddle it was, but it was one of MKC's school paddles, which means it was very well used by lots of people in hard conditions. Who knows what happened to it before. I'm guessing it was stepped on, thrown on rocks, who knows what... I definitely wouldn't blame the paddle. The canoes are whitewater specific, which is why they look different. I can't help with information about the watch! :)
@@PaddleTV, thank you for your reply! The fact that the paddle belonged to the school changes everything. :) Enjoy your weekend as best you can - and, then, give us another video!
I've been a flat-ish water kayaker for some time now. I'm now interested in whitewater kayaking. But all the boats I try to sit in... with the frog-leg style... don't work for me. My legs just don't do that, like a lot of women apparently. I've always found it such an odd, unnatural position and am not sure why it exists lol. What a crusher... until I heard of kneeling. I can't wait to try it... the one blade concerns me, but if that's waht I gotta do, that's what I gotta do. Thanks for the vid.

Love this video. It's always fun to have the tables turned and be one one learning something new.
Thanks Dan! I couldn't agree more... although kneeling all day sucks! :)
This the best summer playground for any paddler! Love the river, love the sport!

Good stuff! It's all about perspective!
@@PaddleTV Yes, it really is.
Stunning river! Great to watch people have such a terrific time!
I used to search for hardcore sea kayaking videos only, but love to see all of your videos now!
And congratulations with your first roll in a canoe.
Thanks Kayasper! It's been a fun summer, filled with lots of different types of paddling adventures. I'm loving the variety.

That conversation at the end was a perfect end to this episode.
Way to go Ken! You are putting us all to shame.

'Canada has such a variety of wildernesses' Ha ha, we will take that from our friend Stefi!
:)

Ha! I definitely have a new found respect/appreciation for what OC1ers put themselves through!
OMGERD how have I NOT seen this before? LOVE IT!!!!!
Enjoyable video! And I thought my Old Town Pack canoe wandered?
It was so great to have you on the Madawaska in a canoe this time, Ken! See you again soon!
Loved this!!!
Great episode. Looks fun, hope to try it some day. I think I would be doing a lot more swimming than Ken....
You can do it!
What a beautiful canoe partner the girly girl is.
Positive, happy, driven and pretty to boot.
Special.
What a trip! What a day!

Once you go Ocoee, you never go back.

Your ankles get used to it. The tip I was given is to kneel on a bean bag while watching TV.
Ah... pre-torture your ankles. :)
Its from an old Irish saying: May the road rise with you and may the wind be always on your back
Ah ha! Thanks!
when you're strapped into an open canoe, if you flip and can't roll up, is there a way to easily release the straps?
My experience has been that you just fall out of the canoe. Usually there is also a buckle you can use to quickly release as well.
why do you need the ankle things and they don't? lol
Nice video. You know that there's another meaning to "boofing".
I probably don't want to know... I think I'll just stick my head in the sand, and only acknowledge the boofing that whitewater paddlers know.
