Been laid up for 3 months with a healing torn rotator cuff and surgery. I'm stoked to get out and do the free rig. Appreciate your showing us how to rig and use it. Love all of your videos Debo, thank you so much. An 83 year old Arkansas invalid.😂
I feel you brother. I have both labrum's torn up in the ol' shoulders . Trying to avoid surgery but, may just be a matter of time. Heel up and feel better
I got on a great FREE rig bite once. I like it because you can use a heavy weight 3/8oz to 1/2oz to cast it really far with casting gear. The bait can still move around freely even with a heavy weight.
I’ve been fishing the free rig for over five years now. It’s been my number 1 rig in that time to catch bass. Back then I saw a video of Shin Fukae explaining it which was probably the first video about the rig on UA-cam. It’s sort of a combination of a Carolina rig and a free swinging jig. I use it almost year round except for when it ices over here in Nebraska. It’s an awesome rig
I love the free rig. Same terminal as a drop shot, so two options with the same hook and weights. I use free rig both on spinning and casting. Spinning is 4-8lb test with 1/16-1/8 weight and light wire hook. Casting is 12-14lb test line with 1/4 weight and medium wire hook. I fish leafy muddy bottoms so the pencil weight doesn’t seem to collect as much gunk as the bullet shaped weight.
The free rig is amazing it definitely landed the most fish for me this year by far. Thank you Debo for the consistent content your channel is top notch. Tight lines bro
Great video!!! Thanks for the helpful tips!! I tried the free rig but wasn't that impressed maybe I was using the wrong setup & not fishing it properly. Will give this ned rig method a try for sure!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!! 🤠👍
Love the free rig, but I go bigger. I use a Thunderhawk Grenade and a 4/0 hook. It’s a floating elastomer, so it really rises the bait off the bottom and gives off the profile of a small gill nosing the bottom to feed.
Im all in with the free rig, but I put two boberstoper on and have the weight in between. So I can use it as a free rig, carolina rig and jika rig by just slinging the stops. I used a small v-snap and a dropshot weight befor I got propper weights so thats a tip if someone just wanna go out and try. Use weight from 1/16 - 1/2 and both floting (like flukes/stick/worm) to salty lumps. Oh, and I run my free rig on 0.61fc leader becuse of pikes. :)
I would like to see these free rig vs a drop shot rig, a simple split shot rig , and the Texas rig in your pool (clear water) just to see if there is any difference in presentation . Using the same hook and soft plastics.
Great vid as always Debo! I have tried the Free Rig multiple times, with little success, because I'm not sure how to work it. I'm trying to fish it almost like a C-rig, with the bait floating behind the weight. I asked Paul at AAA, & he said that's his plan. Did you worry about the bait floating up a certain distance, or fish it more like a Ned or Drop, & not worry about the bait getting distance from the weight? I'd appreciate your insight, & thanks for all the info you give us. Tight Lines!
Pimp my free rig - I've seen some improvements in my fishing friends bubble you might wanna know about: Adding a stopper first to prevent the weight slipping up the line and making a mess where it isn't supposed to go. Adding stopper and bead to the hook to prevent the ring of the weight to damage the knot or slip over the eye of the hooks. There's no texas-rig-click so far, since the eye ans swivel of the weight aren't as hard and stiff as a bullet weight would be. If you''re aiming for the click, you'll have to go for two beads instead. For better feedback use tungsten weights. You may wanna use your common sense to look for the perfect eye at your free rig weights. To small adds friction to the line, it will mess with the free movement of weight and bait. To big and the weight might slip over the hooks eye or over the braid-to-leader.knot. Hope, you found something worth to try. :-)
This is an interesting vid. How is the Free rig different than a Carolina rig? It seems that most of the finesse rigs work well with floating plastics that avoid bottom slime and mud
man i get those random knots so much when i cast spinning rods. i close the bail with my hand and try not to reel up slack and it still happens. ive tried diff lines and braid to leader. anyone have any insight on this ?
What is the difference between this and the Texas rig not pind or just a Carolina rig ⁉️ is a free rig right ⁉️ what I see in the water looks the same. Water test is it.
Both weights are drop shot weights. Both where around before the free rig and the open eye not clip style weight was around before the clip style for drop shot.
Oh and micro free rig is great in bfs gear too. It's actual a Japanese technique they've used in bfs for years now. They are always coming up with new bfs techniques designed from older regular techniques 😂. The free rig has been around the US for years but most use a regular soft plastic and 3/16 oz and up on the weight.
@@Daiwa_Is_KingJapanese fisherman have been fishing a free rig long before 2017 😂 a Japanese pro fished it in the US in elite events in 2015 smh. Why not just use a lindy weight with a snap. Interchange the weight on the fly. I use the the Lindy rig more than any other rig. Midwest walleye but good for multi species.

I’ve been using the free rig for a couple of years. My favorite plastic is the geecrack bellows gill.

Love the free rig, like using the tear drop weight. 👊🎣🎣

Helpful info. Devon, thanks !
Great information debo thank you I have tried it but have to get more small weights

Just wondering Deebo if you have a fluorocarbon leader or just straight braid?
Great video as always, and cool to your your Keegan Murray shirt again! Kings fan
Like your thoughts on the free rig. Nice shirt by the way, both of the Murray brothers are enjoying the NBA. Go, Iowa Hawkeyes!
I've been doing this for 60+ years with purple Manns Jelly Worms!
I miss the 4 and 6 inch jellyworms . I only have 2 packs of the 6 in left ☹️
@@gregchilders7643 My PB 12.5lbs on a 12" black jelly at Lake Fork in January.
thanks for sharing. great video may have to give this a try.
I was about to ask you if I could use the tear drop weight. But you approve it while I was typing. Thank you for the information.
Was thinking about trying the free rig with the Berkley Clatter Craw you had in the unboxing. Now quit finesse but I bet it would work well.

I like to use the "catfish" weights i find in the bank whenever I try the free rig. No luck yet, but i can see why it works.
Good video Debo 🤛
Hey Debo are you using braid to leader or just braid and can’t wait to try it out
you should try the twistlock hooks holds the bait better
I’ve tried this rig using a Yum Dinger 3” with success and it’s budget friendly.
Do you use a leader at the end of the braid?
Debo 🤜🤛

You drag a Carolina rig across the bottom and has a leader with the weight right before the swivel. You don't drag the Free rig.
Thanks for the reply. What type of retrieve worksbest with the free rig?@kayceeyou
Great video deebo! I see you wearing a kings shirt man , are you originally from Sacramento?
Needed this….

Out west that setup catches a lot of slime and algae. Less tackle equals less junk on the line.
