All the zaku models have slowly become some of my favorite gunpla sets to build. Really like the contrast in design from earth federation mobile suits.
Fun tip: you can mode the Zaku Sniper's Mono-eye to make it turn left to right Edit: two things: you forgot to mention the coolest aspect of the Zaku cannon, it's a HG that features a functional Cockpit hatch! How cool is that?? I would like to see how your top ten stands now that we're having the new Char's Zaku Revive?
Didn't really liked the Zaku's design at first, but it's grown on me. Especially, since I bought the Hg Origin version, really love the weapons and articulation on that thing.
The Origins Zaku's kits are some of my most favorite out of all HG Gunpla models. I've collected more of them than any other line except maybe Gundam Wing models.
I actually got the P-Bandai kit for that. It’s the exact same kit as the original FZ, but it throws in a Neo Zeon sticker and the E runner of the High Mobility Zaku for the bazooka. The Zaku machine gun, heat hawk, and two spare hands are left over and usable (including a left trigger finger!). Edit: Turns out the FZ’s hands are just a hair bigger than the leftover High Mobility Zaku hands, so the covers are not compatible. Not a huge deal if you’re gonna paint, though, since you can borrow hand covers from another kit that will fit.
Pretty great list. Making me see I need to get more Zakus. I've built like 4 of the Origin Zaku II's witht he tristars and the standard green. That Kycilia Act Zaku is looking pretty good, might have to get that. And also struggling to justify getting the p-bandai Full Frontal Geara Doga lmao
I built some of the first releases of models when I was a kid and for the time they were amazing. They came a long way from them so I can't complain because I grew up with models. If I were younger and built an old one after building more updated ones I might be able to complain a bit but, not much.
Love the gundam stuff man. I haven’t dabbled in 1/144 much, although I have an rg sazabi to build soon enough. Your zaku love has rubbed off on me though, and Im feeling like eventually tracking down a grunt color MG Zaku 2.0 as a companion piece to my Turn A.
Now that I'm satisfied with my 1/144 OYW gundam kits I've been planning on getting OYW zeon kits and this video helped me a lot! Thanks! (Getting that shin matsunaga first lol)
Playing Encounters in Space in the PS2 and unlocking the "Zaku II (Fritz Helm)" skin was so cool, when I started collecting Gunpla I tried looking for the "Fritz Helm Zaku" without knowing it was an alternate head for the FZ. Edit- Just rewatched the part and I explained it in the video. lol Thanks for watching!
It's kinda heartwarming to see a fellow man of culture. Never watched the original gundam series but it was love at first sight the day I saw a HG Zaku kit. Never built any gunpla and just started colecting these bad bois last January 🤣 I really don't know why I prefer Zakus and GMs over protagonist gundam ms 🤣 I guess I relate to them better as an average joe in real life.
Grunt suits really embody what Mobile Suit Gundam originally brought to the table for the mecha genre. Prior to Gundam, most mecha shows were super robot shows like Getter. Mecha were tools powered by love and friendship to save the day. MSG shone a new light on mecha, depicting them as faceless, mass-produced weapons of war. The utilitarian nature of grunt suits captures this ethos better than the titular Gundam and its offspring.
I recommend you start with SD kits then Move on to modern 1/144 HG. You tell by the Gundam art style to look realistic and dirty on the cover. If the Gundam on the front cover looks animated or CG those are old kits and I don't recommend those if you're starting. Best bring a phone with you for research on it's reviews and release date.
If you are starting out, I recommend picking up a Tamiya basic tools set. Also, just watch some tutorials, they are pretty helpful. Lastly, just pick whatever kit you want ( but you should start with an HG kit). You can look for a hobby store in your area, most if not all hobby stores carry Gundam. If not, then look on Amazon.
The 144 scales are my favourites too, my favourite Zaku kit is the Zaku II F2. I’ve been looking for a Gearu Zulu, they’re just so expensive. Sadly I don’t have a shop nearby that sells Gunplas.

F-2000...the Zaku cosplaying as the Heavyarms... There needs to be a Borjarnon/Borjarnon Custom High Grade. It's a step between the Zaku 1 and 2 in appearance and it's a Turn A one
The Bornjarnon is more of a replica of the Zaku II (and the Zaku I) using later technology, possibly made from Hobby Hizacks by One Year War enthusiasts. I simply attribute the aesthetic differences to art style. As for the power cables in the neck of the Borjarnon Custom, that could be explained by a number of things. It could be a replica of a custom Zaku 1 that existed during the One Year War that we simply don’t know about yet, it could’ve been an attempt at replicating the Zaku 1 based on incorrect data, or it could have been a deliberate modification made by the original owner of this particular Borjarnon that was not accurate to any One Year War Zaku.
I can respect a guy trying to tell his audience about gunpla
