Honestly, the show doesn't portray psychiatrists in a favorable light. And it's realistic. They have too much power to manipulate people backed by soft science whose practitioners need to rigorously balance itself constantly to not become quackery.

That's the coping mechanism for these guys. To apologize you have to feel guilty for making a mistake, guilt eats you away.
That's why these guys do their things and never think about it twice, to them, it is what it is, you gotta do what you gotta do, and the best of all, they make themselves think they do it for their families, to put food on the table for their families etc.

There seems to be a subtle reflection on what he is going to do but also what he has done. She's not wrong and that's what hits him. It's much like how he kept telling her how he was going to leave previously and never come back to talk to her yet always *did* come back. In the end he knows she's right but in this one instance there isn't really any means to spin it around. He really dun goofed

However, given how Tony is, how he is manipulative and of course a sociopath, all of that never felt it was in good faith.
All those moments of him caring mostly felt like it was for himself.

The overriding theme is "everything goes to shit". Many times in the series we see tony caring for others to only be let down by those same people.
Junior, jackie jr, puss, paulie, chrissy, artie, davey, tony b...
Not to say that tony isnt bad, he is. But nothing ever went as planned for him and it fed his evil side.

Junior: Tony went behind his uncles back (the boss) and had capo meetings at that nursing home. NOT GOOD. That’s a death sentence in a real family.
Jackie Jr: Tony made the mistake of letting Ralph take jr under his wing. Jackie was a twerp but tony passed him over to Ralphie and that’s how he got the gun and balls to rob the card game.
Puss: I’ll give you that one, puss betrayed Jackie Sr. by selling Heroine and getting busted.
Chrissy: Tony constantly pushed his nephew to fail because he couldn’t stand seeing him sober and happy. Tony sank that ship himself.
Artie: Artie knew what business Tony was in and insisted on taking money and trying to be something he wasn’t, I don’t blame the shark when the fish goes in it’s cave by choice.
      Davey: same thing as Artie.
Tony B: I agree with you Tony did everything right for his cousin other than shitting on his dream to be a massage therapist. That didn’t warrant Tony b doing hits on New York.
My point is yes you said Tony is not a good guy, but that’s an understatement. Tony planted the all the seeds for most of those people to betray him.

      @whitecrow494 3 роки тому

      @@Pochonesian To be fair:
Junior was causing problems for Tony and the family even before he and Tony vied for Boss position. Christopher and Brendon disobeying Tony and robbing Junior didn't help.
Jackie Jr. sided with his uncle Richie against Tony and remained bitter towards him after, not to mention his mess of a relationship with Meadow. If Tony had tried to mentor Jackie Jr., odds are it wouldn't have ended well.
While Tony definitely played a major part in ruining Christopher's life, there were plenty of moments where his failures were his own. He was a good for nothing junkie from the start.
