My first strategy guide was for Donkey Kong 64. It actually came with the game and my original N64 from a bundle sold at Sam’s Club back in the day. It lead to an obsession with getting the guides for as many games as possible for the rest of my early gaming existence.

back in 1996 i had to buy the game guide to ChronoTrigger for the SNES because it was kicking my butt and i found the guide in Spanish, which was no problem for me because Spanish is my second language. Back then we didn't have any guides online like we have today, definitely a nostalgic buy and would recommend buying these for the info they provide and other game adds from the time period.

Lucky dude!! Did you know MK on the SNES was the most expensive game we ever bought here?! I think with tax it came to $74 back then!! I think part of the reason why it was so expensive is they didn't want people really to buy it because all the controversy

My first strategy guide was Pokemon RBY when I picked up my copy of yellow (had already played blue for years by then).

First ever guide I used was for Resident Evil on PS1, never had a memory card so beat the game on my one and only playthrough that day.

My first guides were Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2! I still have them. I used them a ton to find everything. And also to answer the game show questions.

I still have my Link to the Past strategy guide which was my first, but I have even more nostalgia for my Ocarina of Time guide. Still have a backpack full of old guides!

My favorite guide is probably Skyrim and I still love to collect them when I find them but I don’t really use them instead I keep them as fun collectors items

I remember struggling so much with Ocarina of Time on the 64 and a lot of my friends having trouble as well, I begged and pleaded with my parents for the guide but finally my awesome aunt got it for me.

My first strategy guide was Pokémon Rev/blue. It used to show you which Pokémon were in each area. It was great.
Another I had was the tomb raider 2 one, which I would never have got through without 😅

I've never caught a video when it's gone up because I just found retros channel less than a week ago. I watch way too much UA-cam when I'm in the hospital. First strategy guide I ever remember getting was GTA San Andreas on PS2 launch day, and I loved reading about the cars and all that. Didn't use it much to help me, more for customizing the cars. Thing was as big as a college textbook

@@retrorick vice city is where it's at. The sound track is phenomenal, it just draws you in every time. I need to check out the ridiculously overpriced vice city stories

Another fantastic episode Rick!! Keep em coming my dude!! My first strategy guide I used back in the day was the final fantasy guide for the NES! Also if you didn’t have the map back in the day you were screwed!! I remember having to borrow the map from a friend of my just to beat the game!!
