    Teepee trellises are great for peas and beans. What is more fun is to leave an opening so that a child, or you, can crawl inside of the living pea tepee!
    You can build a tepee trellis out of several different materials. We are using saplings that we cut down.
    While the string was an option in our case, if you use poles that are smooth like bamboo or metal, you will have to use the string so the peas or beans have something for their tendrils to hold on to.

    This is helpful! Wish I'd seen this a few years ago, but I'll try it in 2022.

    What would you plant at the base of a Teepee Trellis? We are planting peas. Of all of our trellis build videos, this one is the most popular. Have you ever hidden inside a Teepee Trellis?

      Hi, I mainly have mainly an ornamental garden. This past season, I used a teepee trellis for Thunbergia vine (black-eyed susan vine). It was great. First time I grew Thunbergia. They grow like mad. I probably planted twice as many plants as I needed. I made my trellis out of plastic coated metal stakes, so I definitely needed the twine. Yours is way more beautiful; I wish I had saplings to cut like you do.
      One thing I noticed, you didn't seem to "plant" your trellis in the ground. Did you do that later on?
      Great video. Just found you tonight.

      Oh, also, I LOVED how you said the opening was great for kids or for yourself if you want to go inside. :D

    Perfect! Thanks for the info. I'm going to build a smaller version for cucumbers in a couple of my beds, but I can't wait to make a BIG teepee trellis with the opening out in my yard for my kids to have fun in!!! What a great idea!

    I have some forsythia that I'm going to prune and thin here in a couple weeks. I think I'll save a bunch of the stems for trellis's. thanks for the idea!

      What a great idea vmcshannon. I bet that will work out well. I do not have any forsythia myself, but I wager those would weave well for small trellises also.

    May I ask, why use cotton string? Wouldn't nylon string last longer? It seems like cotton will degrade too quickly in the sun.

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  8 років тому

      Peas don't take all that long to grow. Not sure why you'd need nylon, so to speak, but I suppose you can use whatever you like. Cotton is what I had on hand.

    • @OMyStarz
      @OMyStarz 8 років тому +1

      Lol...got 'cha. I guess I was thinking more about longevity. Thanks, have a great day!

    • @nspector
      @nspector 4 роки тому

      @@OMyStarz Hi, I find the cotton twine lasts one season. It has a nicer quality than nylon, tho I do use nylon for more permanent things. But this trellis is probably only going to be sturdy for one season?
