  • This video was made to compare the difference is average size of redclaw in Somerset and Wivenhoe dam. I will run through the types and bait's that work well for myself and include reasons (include sounder screenshots) as to why the pots were placed in different area's. The different types of structure between the dams and what to look out for. Catching Redclaw is good fun and they are great to eat, hope you are able to get out and catch some with these tips.

    Awesome videography. Those Australian Red Claw Freshwater Crayfish are truly indeed spectacular
    Freshwater Lobsters!
    So much so that they have been transplanted to other tropical parts of the world. Such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica.
    Wishing you safe adventures and journeys.

      Yes. Your Australian Red Claw is very popular.
      Similarly the North American;
      Signal Crayfish, and now Louisiana Red Swamp Crayfish has been transplanted into Taiwan, Japan and all over Europe and even into Africa.

    To avoid disappointment, embarrassment, fines and gear confiscation, check regulations on pot marking and float size and marking as well as other requirements to adhere to while fishing for red claw.

      Yeah cheers mate, I never knew there was a minimum float size for redclaw and crab pots at that stage. This was filmed about 12 months ago. Thanks for the the feedback and watch, hope you enjoyed.

    If you thread some lead sheet into the telstra rope it'll stop it floating and risking someone prop chopping it.

      Google reckons wivenhoe is 2700 acres and somerset is 10700 acres. Don't think the wivenhoe size is right but, has to be a lot bigger then that, the bottem half of the dam would be twice that size easy.
