I am so glad there are people like you Dan Savage ... who care enough to try to reach out to people who are in difficult situations.
I am sorry you went through what you did. I'm not gay, but I am atheist and in a lot of ways the oppression and bullying is similar.

That was a very touching story about the 15 year old girl. Thank you, Dan.

"You are ours to torture until you're 18" and "once you're 18, you can't talk to those we're still torturing"...oh so true and well said.

I can in some degree relate to what he was saying in 10:22. I never got bullied cause I was kind of a bully haha. What I can really relate with is him putting a wall up between his parents for fear of rejection and losing their love.

"in person with gay youth" there are many places, and groups with LGBT people speaking to youth in person and giving them people to talk to. But one thing he pointed out was...most parents will THREATEN their own kid, if they are caught going there.
Missed that part did you? "for more than a week" oh im pretty sure that kids being persecuted relate to people who have been there and are better for it, for more than a week. Happier? it takes a long time to recover from trauma. Better for it? YES.

It is also logical to assume that gay kids, being tortured and rejected by there parents on the verge of suicide...benefit greatly from talking to people who can relate and have past experience. That's just fucking LOGIC. If one is persecuted for something, talking to somebody who has been there helps one deal with it better, than talking to somebody who can't give advise and perspective because they HAVENT BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION. That's basic psychology. Wow man. Wow.

What lifestyle? 1 in 4 homosexual couples have been in the same, committed, and stable relationships for more than ten years. The man in this video included.
