I miss the simpler times when i spent hours and hours learning from your precision modeling playlist. I waited a long time expecting the new one for CAD scketcher but never happened so I had to surrender to fusion 360 despite been raised by maker tales as a blender supporter.
It's amazing how one's actions can shape other's paths across the world without any intention.
Wish you the best Johnathan! Amazing teacher.

Well with a Bit of luck CAD Sketcher 1.0.0 will come at some point in 2024 and at that point i'll be able to teach more of that workflow. But at the end of the cad CAD Sketcher is just an addon tool for the blender workflow. Also with blender 4.0 now up i'll be redoing the whole course soonish 😉

Can't wait to see what you do.
Have you heard of the Great Guitar Build Off? I'm building a resin 3d-printed guitar and have found your videos invaluable.

      Hey davedvem,
I look forward to Keeping Making much much more! and I'm so glad I've been able to help you in your maker journey.
I've never heard of the Great Guitar Build Off! Is there an official site for it? Sound like a great project to take on

I was subscribed to Maker Tales, been on a bit of a break and come back to see that I no longer have it on my list? Is it a pay to use channel now? I have always enjoyed your teaching method and learned a lot! Sorry to see it all change..

Well, Maker Tales is now just called Keep Making and it's more about my exploration of the maker realm and teaching rather than project creation.
Hmmm, interesting that you feel it's a "Pay to use channel now?" What gave you that feeling?
There is for sure LOTS more to come and I'm working on some BIG things that are Free and or cheap in the near future😉
(at the end of the day I need to make a living if not I won't be able to give anyone anything 😕)

What's the reason behind changing the brand tho? You already have everything (patreon, ig, fb, twitter) tagged with MakerTales, so to suddenly change to something (imo) generic like "Keep Making" is rather weird to me.
That said, I'm nothing against it. Your channel your choice, I'm just curious.

I've seen other channels crater after sudden rebrands. It might be better to slowly introduce the name over some months rather than all at once.

LONG LONG story short Maker Tales for me has always been about my own creativity and not about teaching. I tried to brining my own creativity into the old Maker Tales brand but it was very clear that those videos were well... Tanking. 1.8k views rather than 15k so.... I decided that I wanted to follow my heart and still Keep going with my own creativity ells where and that I still want Maker Tales to mean my own creativity to me and and the same time I want to have a name / brand that can evolve with the times to any maker situation, I've also been saying it for years and even had it on a cup in front of me all this time and that is Keep Making. So now I have 2 channels.

Ya I get that. I have been talking about it for a good 3 - 4 months tho and eventually I just got to rip the pull cord

The AI thumbnail with typo really hurts.

I look forward to see what you put out here!
maybe don't use AI art for the thumbnails though :/

Thanks! and Ya lot's more to come!
I am curious tho, as to why the opposition to AI-gen thumbnails. I'm always looking to learn viewpoints and see the bigger picture.
Where I am at the moment. At the end of the day I'm a one man band and making thumbnails can take even longer or is even harder than the video itself and that's just to make one. Now that youtube is rolling out A - B testing for thumbnail it's even more work. So those that can optimize their thumbnail creation / generation will actually rise to the top and get visibility and those that don't will sort of be left behind. Slowly but surely there is a growing content trend and pressure to make more content and If I can't keep up with the times I'll get pushed to the side. Viewers will go to the other channels that in the long run are probs using generation and then I'll no longer be able to support myself through youtube and I'll have to stop doing what I'm doing 😐
With that said I do understand the concerns about "AI art" especially regarding the impact on traditional artists and I does feel like a delicate balance between maintaining authenticity and adapting to evolving content creation landscape. There is no way at the moment that I would be able to pay anyone to do this work for me, nor am I looking to replicate a specific artist's style. I also have the feeling that this "AI / ML" Train has left the station and now has enough momentum that I don't feel it's even close to stopable now.
Anyway, thats just my two cents and I'm interested to know yours.

@@Keep-Making Personally I'm opposed to it for 2 main reasons
One is the whole process of training the AI using artwork obtained without any form of consent, which it sounds like you might already be aware of. Having your art reduced to nothing more than data fed into a machine for somebody else's gain almost feels like getting spat on your face. On top of that, said data needs to be labeled by someone. That someone is usually thousands of people in third world countries being paid almost nothing to label hundreds of pieces of data every single day. Philosophy Tube has a great video on AI in general that goes into more detail about some of the things here, and she explains it much better than I can.
There's also the fact that, its just not very good art in the first place. Even when everything is "right" in the generated art (which it rarely ever is), there's something off about most generated content, which allows me to spot it pretty much immediately. Maybe its the aimlessness of the generator seeping into the image, but I'm not sure what it is exactly tbh. To me anyways, seeing weird AI art is way more off putting than mediocre art made by a real person. Part of this might also be because when I do see AI art on some kind of a feed, its almost always some low effort cash-grab, scam, or some garbage getting pumped out by a huge content farm. Hypothetically, if I weren't already following your channel, seeing that thumbnail would've likely caused me to skip watching the video completely.
I get that thumbnails can be really time consuming to make, especially one that effectively grabs clicks, but I don't know if relying on generators is the best approach. It may be helpful as a source of inspiration. But seeing those hallmark AI artifacts is a huge turn off for me personally. I'm not sure how true that is for the average UA-cam viewer, but it's not an uncommon view among the circles that I'm a part of at least.
