As a part time florist, I would recommend NOT hanging a dried flower wreath on an outside door. They are very susceptible to accumulating dirt, cobwebs, etc. and are difficult to clean. Plus, any significant amount of wind or rain will just ruin them.
So true! I rented a cottage a a dried floral wreath outside one door. It accumulated dust and cobwebs, and when I went to clean it some of it fell apart xx
I bet she knows that. Maybe it's going on the door in the sunroom door .that goes into the house. Or behind a storm door.
Hi fellow florist. I've been a florist for 43 years now.
You are absolutely correct about the dry wreath. It needs to stay inside.
I'm not a florist but yes inside is better for I learned the way because all of mine attracted different birds and they all built nests! Very cool to watch though! (But then you have to throw them out for they used most of the steps for their nest!)
I bought a sealant recommended for my moss cornucopia. It was getting everywhere before I could make something, was doing to use it as a nome hat.
You want to buy mums just before they're blooming, so you can enjoy them through the whole blooming period.
Love Andrew - $70 for dead flowers??? - laughed out loud! Laurel is getting so big. Your family is precious.
I feel the same way as Andrew.
Spray paint an old Christmas wreath black 🤓
I would rather spend that kind of money on a wreath that will last for YEARS rather than $70 on real flowers that will die within a week or two!
@@sewsusieque Or any old wreath for that matter.
She works really hard. She deserves a reward
I got a cup glued to the saucer as a planter by glueing it makes it more stable ..
At 19:47, the parrot hook, place it on the wall in the shop, put your keys on the hooks every time you come to the shop. You will always know where to find them.
Miss Laurel put a stop to the dead flower conversation quick! She has a lot of pull! 🤣. When she speaks you listen!
It's crazy that Goodwill prices items higher than the antique malls. 🫤
The cup glued to the saucer is mounted to a post and then you put bird seed in the cup and the birds can perch on the saucer. They are super cute whimsical garden art.
You have perfect timing for the mums as long as they have tons of buds - that's exactly what you want! Then you get to enjoy the flowers and not the garden center. ISN'T FALL THE BEST??!!
Exactly
Don’t forget to water everyday!
I’ve already seen Xmas things in stores & it’s not even October! When I was growing up you never saw it before Thanksgiving.😮
The frame with the "acid trip"... that is marbled paper, once commonly used as end papers in books. :)
I never saw anything like that tripping in the 70's lol.
It looks like a pathology slide lol
I’m with Andrew on the dead flowers 😮
I purposely look for Mums that still have the closed buds. My Mom (who has a very bright green thumb lol) taught me that because they last longer.
I agree with Dad. Dried up dead flowers. Just a little pricey
That’s honestly what wreath go for today. They can be really pricey
I love them and buy them often. Everything is pricey. Lol.
At 9:19, they are Cambridge Caprice nut dishes, they came in a set of 4 with a covered box. They are seashells, not leaves. They were in blue, pink, green, yellow, clear.
Wow you sound so harsh 😮
@@kelliwillis417 Facts, just the facts. That way she can look them up.
@@kelliwillis417 text has no tone. It didn't strike me as harsh.
That’s how you want to buy the mums, that way they will last longer this way.
Oh you wanna buy mums BEFORE they flower. They really only have one flush of blooms and then they’re done. Ornamental Kale is very colorful for fall
Baby Laurel was soooo NOT having those dried flowers 😂 ❤
takes after Dad!
😆 That was my thought too!!
They’re praying hands lol, just old arthritic hands as I can relate to. Thank you for all your great videos!
The praying hands were arthritic. You get a whole point...🙏
Baby Laurel is so precious & so healthy & a happy baby!!
I’m with Andrew on the wreath. 🤦♀️😂
Find a wreath in goodwill and spray paint it black.
The black wreath is arborvitae’s spray painted black!
16:48 Ruffian was a famous Thoroughbred race horse. During a 1975 race against Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure, she was injured and euthanized. She broke her right front leg but would not stop running. Her breakdown and death led to calls for more humane treatment of racehorses. Ruffian posthumously earned the 1975 Eclipse Award for Outstanding Three-Year-Old Filly.
If you want the wreath get it.you work hard for what you have. You don’t buy that much for yourself.
That artwork was marbleized paper. It is used for endpapers in bookbinding.
I’m cheering! The 70s LSD artwork didn’t make the cart check! Hooray!
You might remind Andrew that in addition to the "dead dry flowers" You are also paying for the talent of the crafter who made the wreath! Also, the art work you put back, looked like it might be marbled paper.
that is the kind of mum you want that way they last through the season
Plastic wreaths cost that much and the dried are much more charming!
Andrew: we have plenty of dried up dead flowers in our yard 😂🤣😆
Spray paint cheap wreath black for Halloween. Good quality dried flowers can cost more.
when buying mums select plants with mostly closed buds and healthy foliage. Plants that are already in full bloom will not be attractive as long. Avoid plants whose flowers have already begun to fade. Keep them well watered
You talking about decorating your porch reminds me of when my kids were little. I bought 2 huge corn stalks, multicolored dry corn on the cob, and hay bales. I spent about an hour setting it up. Within 20 minutes the squirrels had stripped the bunches of dried corn down to the cobs. 6 total. Then they tore the corn stalks apart and scattered them across the porch. The mice had moved into the hay bales by the next day. I gave up and put plastic pumpkins out there after that.🤣😂🤣
I bet that was a cold winter - the animals always know!!
That's like sad and funny at the same time. Sorry that happened after all your hard work.
@@elizabethwitt2621 It was hilarious! We laughed every time we looked out the door! A lesson leaned and a family story born!
So true but so funny!!!
FYI the birds are going to use it for nesting material...lol
Love seeing Baby Laurel.
LOVE the dried flower wreath Dried flowers are not the same as dead. 🌺
I laughed and then had to listen to him again to make sure I heard correctly! $70 for dried up flowers! It looks like the black wreath is just cedar branches covered with a light spray of black paint. I've done the same thing when making Halloween wreaths but I've always add addiction details on top of the braches!
Spider plants are easy to grow don't have to have a lot of water.
Wreaths are so easy to make! Use pins and ribbons to keep everything in place, or even a gluegun you can put flowers ,ornaments, berries, toys, candy anything goes!!!
As always, thanks for taking us along. The white divided plates @ 16:22 are actually fondue plates. And the parrot hook would be perfect hung by the shop door for your keys! *wink* Can't wait to see your completed Halloween decorations! 💙
I am so glad you told us what those are. I always thought maybe they were for olives, pickles etc.
People make planters out of those big cups and saucers, gluing them together.
I love to watch you shop! It’s so interesting in what you like and what you find valuable and good for resale. Your Goodwills are really nice there!
I love that first store that is only about 5 minutes from my house. 😊
FYI: You can spray your new dried wreath with hairspray to keep the small pieces from coming off.
Laurel is so cute !!! Love her smile.
I think Dagney looked at that camper wooden sign recently.
Ruffian was a filly who was a tremendous racehorse. She died after running against a colt, Foolish Pleasure, who was a Kentucky Derby winner, in a Match Race. Man against Woman, which in the 70"s was a hot topic. Who was better? Who was faster? She ran the race with a broken foot, unbeknownst to anyone at the time, and almost won. I watched that race and cried for days after hearing she had to be put down. Race fans would have loved those glasses.
My Dad worked at racetracks for many years. I grew up with the horses. Love your channel!!!!
I think the planter with the glasses was supposed to be Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She had lipstick on.
I agree. R.b.g.
Enjoyed your video live the dried flowered wreath Andrews comment is exactly what my husband would say I love seeing Laurel she is getting so big
I think your “acid trip” piece is a framed piece of marbled paper or even silk. Possibly made in us or looks like Ebru style marbleized venetian work. Love your sweet family!
WOW - That goodwill is a million times better than the one here I normally go to in SC lately. There's one I use to go to and now its literally empty shelves like hardly anything out, You 're VERY lucky to have this kid of inventory! And little Laurel is getting so big- she's SO adorable!!
Did you get the wreath after all that? Maybe I missed something. Andrew is pretty funny with his comments and Laurel is getting so big!!
I just bought that same spider plant Love it the shoots grow up instead of down
I would send you a picture of mine but they are so cool right now I have a shoot/baby wrapping around the whole planter
Nice video, good idea to do a cart review before checkout, I like that you’ve started doing that as part of your routine, good job!
It was hard to see Elbert's Scrapbook passed by. One sold for $30 on eBay 4 days ago. I couldn't see the price on it, though. I'm a sucker for Arts & Crafts stuff.
The white plates with divided sections are fondue plates.
RUFFIAN was a famous FEMALE Racehorse who left a huge legacy after her tragic death in 1975. Her stuff is VALUABLE!
Hey Jos’ love watching you, I’ve learned so much! I’m glad I was laying down because I would have fell down, when I saw the worth of so many items from my childhood that sold for and I gave away due to space that people bought for so much money, lol I agree with Andrew, never pay a lot of money for dried flowers, there’s fix it, and hair spray that hold them together, but storing it hem for the next season they still fall apart unless they’re in glass. You can buy a wreath from hobby lobby , or the dollar tree. Buy some fabric flowers from the same two places and make it a family project with your children. I’ve been making wreaths for years, and people always want me to make them one, but they are expensive to make or buy, and they never want to pay the price! The wreath pic’s flowers ribbon etc can add up! You making your own is easy, and you are the one that picks the colors you want. Glue guns are very, very hot, so buy a grape vine wreath base, have some wire cutters or pruning shears and all you have to do it stick your decorations in, make or buy a big bow tie it on with floral wire or twine and hang. You can make all of your seasonal wreath and they will have your family’ personal touch. The children are growing, I remember when Juliet was sitting in the shopping cart, lol they are so loving towards their baby sister and Andrew is so cute kissy dad.
OMG!! She is so beautiful! You guys crack me up so hard lol I love your family!
Nice find on the BONNIE SPIDER PLANT!
I agree with your honey...too way too expensive wreath for dead flowers lolololol
The Dandelion pattern bowl is Taylor Smith & Taylor.
That was so funny,in both shops they had “thriller” from Michael Jackson playing..😄
Dagny picked up the ' God bless our camper ' thingee too . 😉😊
Aloe is a must in the kitchen for burns,my mom always kept one there and I do too!!
May I be so bold as to say that I feel that Laurel just brings your relationship with Andrew even sweeter and it is lovely to see.
The white plates that are divided are actually for fondue... 😊
I think those are praying hands of angels elderly person praying ♥️
Yea!!! You had your light...good for you!
Little lady needs sunglasses.what does she think about the birds.i know she gets prettier each time I see her,and trying to talk. Give hug for me.
My life IS a 70s acid trip but without the acid!
The acid trips started in 60s, which Dr. Timothy Leary made popular. Before that doctors would use acid for people who were very depressed.
Great stuff love that sun and moon
Very cool
Just a tip I learned about oil lamps... The maker and patent date are often on the wick adjustment know thingy.
I love your goodwill videos. They are the best!
Great haul love everything
Nice autumn weather.
Spray some hairspray on the wreath to keep the dried flowers intact.
or some UV spray to keep them from fading.
There are several clear coatings at Walmart, etc..
What a gorgeous colour the sunset orange mums is!!
The little shell dishes are Cambridge Glass. I'm sure you already knew that! I researched it after finding a light blue one at a garage sale. Nut, candy, or salt dishes? They're so darling.
I so enjoyed the way this video started out with you and Andrew and Laurel shopping together. I was cracking up when you tried to get Laurel to back you up when Andrew was giving you a hard time about the dry flower wreath. 😂
That spotted painting could be one of Hunters!?
Laurel is so precious! I love your channel. You and Andrew are so happy together! Your followers love you!
The moon and sun are my favorites. Lots of cool things today.
Well, maybe not a lot of Goodwills have begun new pricing structures but mine certainly has gotten pricier. Vera Bradley's are about 30.00, glassware is up to 7. A piece, I saw a fossil wallet for about 40.00. At my stores absolutely nothing exists under 2.00 _ even if it's an empty box. It's a fun hobby, but increasingly unaffordable. I no longer pick up every day items "since I'm there", and increasingly just browse for "finds". Not a reseller so only speaking as a non resell consumer. Maybe it still works as a shopping source for resellers or for specific items such as clothing or certain hard goods, but not all.
I totally agree.. I like to shop but if you are not a reseller it is cheaper for me to go to estate sales. We have three to four every weekend and the prices are getting lower than rummage sales. Our GW will sell a sheet set or comforter set higher than a department store...no thanks. I did find a beautiful Lands End cotton and cashmere cardigan...like new for 3.99.
As a reseller, I can tell you they have priced a lot of us out. There is an entire group of resellers that I know and shop together with, and we all spend much less money there now. So I question how this has all worked out for them. They've priced out the resellers, and the people who actually need the goods at a discount for personal use who now can't afford to shop there anymore. They have gone completely overboard with greed. So I'm not sure exactly how this is a winning strategy for them. It's just creating a lot of people that won't shop there anymore and more goods that don't sell and end up at the Goodwill by the pound outlets. As a reseller, I can find items at a good price elsewhere, but what concerns me is the people who can't afford to shop anywhere else. So much for the Goodwill mission. 🤷♀️
I have that Elbert Hubbard scrap book! I love it
I would have loved those divided plates! I am one of those….
Your videos are the highlight of my day. Enjoy so much seeing your family .
Looks like a wonderful store! Your mom has good taste! I love the wreath! Laurel is so adorable!
That sun and moon are great.
Good job, Laurel! ☺️
Love the trip to your moms fav shop! You can make a scarecrow msn! So thanks for jogging past the bags, dang! 😆 🤣
I love your black light when I saw in one of your last videos. So I went to go find one on Amazon I love the fact that you can recharge it.
Picture is called a pour paint. A relatively new craft. You put layers of paint in a cup and dump it.
Ashcombes....love that place!!! Pricey but beautiful merchandise.
The pink might glow, I've seen claer, green, blue, red and pink uranium glass. I'm so jealous of the pieces you find.
Those divided plates are for fondue, very big in the 50-70’s. I have an orange melamine set. I’d love ceramic ones.
That little tiny gray owl is Otagiri. I bought one just like it with an owl cup from Dagny's ebay store!
Right at the end. You said you loved the moon and stars, when you really meant sun and moon. We know you love your glass so moon and stars just naturally rolled off the tongue. (Good will is one of my favs to watch(
The plate stand that the Camper sign was on is Bombay Company … I search for them everywhere 😮 needed it !
Usually I find good wreaths at Home Goods but today I found one with fall mums, pumpkins and gourds at And That.
For the black wreath, get a green one and spray paint it black.
The serving bowl with the blue flowers is Taylor-Smith Blue Lace and I sell platters and that size serving bowl in my booth for about $29.
Ohhh! I have to watch the store for the sun and moon!
