Rouen, Normandy, France

Rouen, located on the River Seine in northern France, has long served as an important cultural capital of Normandy with its half-timbered houses, Rouen Cathedral whose construction began in 1202. Here also, during the Hundred Years’ War when England and France both claimed this region as theirs, Joan of Arc was tried and burned at the stake on 30 May 1431.
