Always Loved Icehouse and Iva Davies... what a delightful surprise to hear the intro of this song being used in the recent cinema movie "The Stranger" ...
I managed a record store when this album came out. If I wanted a sale, all I had to do was play this album on the store stereo and nine tines out of ten, someone would ask who this was and then buy the album or cassette.
My first ever concert in 88. My gift from my best friend before my wedding. Had the most awesome time. Brings back many wonderful memories of the 80s with my friends and boyfriend now husband. Icehouse songs always give me goosebumps.
this song will never age... i can hear it in so many current synth-pop imitators, wishing to reproduce the feel of those perfect 80s classics.. but you cannot reproduce this -this is pure perfection
I'm 48, and Icehouse was already my favorite when I was 17, and I love the music of Icehouse today :-) My daughter is 16, she does not know Icehouse unfortunately :-/
Great lyrics, great vocals, Iva Davies thanks for making real music, We will never get sick of your music.....This track takes me back to my youth.....
Iva Davies is one of Australia’s I.T. music programming geniuses. Such a dedicated & talented artist. First live gig I ever saw him do was at Cloudland, Brisbane back in the 70s when they were called Flowers. They were the support act for The Angels & what a show. Both bands were brilliant👍🏼😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
peneatrating and beautiful music and lyrics. I wonder if the simple Idea of it's begining could match the grandeur of it's result. It is fuel for the mind to to fly , for imagination and fantasy to collide! Thank you poster , a lost jewel , that hides in vynil in my loft .
My favourite Flowers / Icehouse song of them all, I'll never forget the day I first discovered this on the album. Iva Davies is seriously underrated as a songwriter of masterpieces.
This is a classic track from "Icehouse". Very underrated Aussie band and they sang about really diverse subjects, this one about the Trojan war was priceless. Always like the old Greek Myths and the classics and it was even better that someone set this to music. Love the visuals that go with this.
@TheDeepBlueWater me too...so emotionally charged. it was the soundtrack for every little move this girl Bethany made. this was the song that played everywhere around me and inside me as i worshipped her.
"Trojan Blue" The soldiers standing on the shore, shake up their golden shields You watch them from your room, high on the city walls In the distance on the shifting sea, a thousand coloured sails Is this the moment you made? Is this the way that you planned? You know it won't be long now The finest treasures of kings, all of those precious things They never tempted you So as you stood in the ruins, how could you dare to look on As they burned for you...? The broken pieces of clay and the palest eyes, painted in Trojan blue You remember how it used to be when you were just a girl Nothing really mattered then, you can remember so well How you used to hold your head so high, those days will never return The finest treasures of kings, all of those precious things They never tempted you So as you stood in the ruins, how could you dare to look on As they burned for you...? Mmm-hmm, mmm-hmm The broken pieces of clay and the palest eyes, painted in Trojan blue Dust is drifting in the evening air, across the field below The silver mirror, you hold will never tell...You turn your face away The finest treasures of kings, all of those precious things They never tempted you So as you stood in the ruins, how could you dare to look on As they burned for you...? Oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh The broken pieces of clay and the palest eyes, painted in Trojan blue The broken pieces of clay and the palest eyes, painted in Trojan blue
One of my absolute favourite songs by Iva Davies and Icehouse. It came out when I was 10, and I didn't hear it until about 5 years later but it's a wonderful song about Helen of Troy from the perspective of all those who saw the needless deaths in the Trojan war.
"The soldiers standing on the shore Shake up their golden shields You watch them from your room High on the city walls In the distance on the shifting sea A thousand colored sails Is this the moment you made? I dunno I always wanna know where Icehouse is heard ;-) Long Beach CA but fan via Waco TX 1986 of Icehouse !!! I played this and much other Icehouse on Baylor's radio station KWBU which was, awesomely, jazz classical Christian rock old country/folk and so many other genres plus pop alternative which is where Icehouse fell. What a band!......
Hi charleen Seen icehouse recently Thinking they wouldn't be as good now as before But was blown away by them Was the best concert l have seen in years
I have this on vinyl too. Will have to check Amazon on the off chance I can dowload some of Icehouse's older stuff onto my MP3. Then I can die happy.(lol) Honestly, this would have been an excellent song to set to scenes from Gladiator, especially some of the more tender scenes between Lucilla and Maximus. Considering he's a fellow Ozzie and musician, I'll bet Russell Crowe would approve.
I was such a queen head.. never listened to anything else. i Missed flowers/icehouse hunters and collectors i did see jimmy and the boys chisel and moil but regret never seeing icehouse
Wonderful song about Helen of Troy. She watches the 1000 greek ships invade. Is this the way that you planned. - did she leave sparta with Paris willingly or was she abducted.
I heard this song playing In the movie "The Stanger" 2023. It's definitely a hit

My favourite Icehouse Song ... stunning ...
The stranger brought me here.
A very poetic song about Homer's The Iliad...a love affair that launched a thousand ships and the Trojan War. Awesome song!
My first ever concert in 88. My gift from my best friend before my wedding. Had the most awesome time. Brings back many wonderful memories of the 80s with my friends and boyfriend now husband. Icehouse songs always give me goosebumps.

haube04 up to you to show her mate, and keep her away from the likes of Lady Gaga and Madonna. you'll be doing her soul a favour.
At the moment I'm trying to inspire her for the music of Marillion, a hard one :D
best 80s song by a very very long way. Only Del Amitri really comes close.
He's always singing with so much passion! Stunning!!!
Since near 30 years one of my fav. tracks ever...
Great lyrics, great vocals, Iva Davies thanks for making real music, We will never get sick of your music.....This track takes me back to my youth.....
Was 14 when discovered Icehouse in 87. Now am 46.
hands down - greatest song of the entire 80s
Such an incredible beautifull, melancholic song. Their very best song, in my opinion.
What other similar tracks are there? Doesn’t necessarily have to be icehouse
This song is timeless and before its time. Beautiful
Am from India..After watching The Stranger movie, came here

he's really only now being recognised by the masses for his genius - we all knew it the moment the song 'icehouse' was released by the flowers though,

Thanks to The Stranger with Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris for introducing me to this song and band.

@@chronicillz1879it's 80's post-punk / new romantic. Lots of similar out there of which this remains an excellent example
Whoever put this together is is a good master of the first order. ...

Seriously Thanks mate. Brilliant song that's been hard to find. Standout of "Primitive Man" for mine
I’m here from the Stranger cause radio DJs don’t play music like they should.
Beautiful song! Sounds like it could have also been a title track to a James Bond movie. Thanks for posting.
Great tune Thanks Mark
Thank you! The fellow above was telling me Russell Crowe is a Kiwi. I always wondered what Iva's b-day was. I appreciate you looking it up for me.
May 26 - Gemini
Just pure class and timeless
Badass song.....Icehouse, damn right!
One of the best groups from the 70`s to now.
I have been looking for this and thanks for all them 80s memories - brill one I played to death on vinyl!
it's funny how a song from back when, can still trigger memories thought lost.

Absolutely!
The Trojan War ended 3,196 years ago. Time lends a patina of romance to all things.
