Thanks and you could always try and play just your favourite bits. You don't have to play the whole 25 minute epic to learn some new grooves and licks. Have fun and thanks again!
I am a new drummer who has being playing for around a year and have become overwhelmed with all of the resources on the internet. I have just signed up to Drums the Word as I find Rob a great teacher and he explain this stuff really well. Hoping that I can move forward with my playing.
Which idiot gave it a thumbs down? Awesome playing Rob as usual. The speed of those triplets are mind blowing. Please teach us some tips how to get that precise and fast? You are now the go to youtube vid for me if learning a new song. Thanks
It took me a long time to get them to sound smooth. Many hours of practice over time. You shouldn't expect to get them in just one or two practice sessions. Make sure you focus on making the three notes roll smoothly together by practicing slow then speeding up. As soon as they start to sound muddled then slow them back down again. It's careful practice over time that will give you the best result. Good luck and have fun!
Hey Rob! Remember me! Only just came back to your channel today as I've been super busy the past few months with my drumeo subscription and steve gadd books. But man thanks for scribing this stuff out! Loved the song and I'm gonna print out the PDF and go mess around with a few of these now!
All of the BPM's are on the free PDF notation available here... www.drumstheword.com/play-dave-grohl-free-video-drum-lesson-pdf-transcription-learn-how-play-song
@4:22 oh f**, after this part there's a charley fill that you don't explain...and that's the one i'm stuck with !!!! I think that's a triplet thing with " left right hh right left hh left right hh " and so on, with the bass drum on each hh, but that's fuckin hard at this speed !!!
It is tricky...especially with that hi-hat bark at the beginning. Perhaps practice without the hi-hat opening and then add it later once you have the groove down. Have fun!
Dave never used double bass playing quads. It's his signature lick which he constanly utilizes in his songs. Here are a couple of examples ua-cam.com/video/hfBTv5b_Cok/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/PEfOrECg6jI/v-deo.html It's just super fast sliding doubles between tom hits. Sure, you can spot him fooling around with a double bass in a couple of shots of Play, but I think it ended there.

Sorry, on the original play dave grohl is on the 9:55 minutes
It's single strokes and he is playing groups of three, with the hi-hat being opened and closed every third note.

@Charles Heintz nope....i'm talking about the next break in the song, on the charley, but it's not here in this video.
Traducelo a español please !!!!!
Good video
P.S you misspelled Grohl in the last parentheses.
Thanks! :)
@06:36 - really struggling with this one :D

Favorite double bass lick/groove?
Probably something a little cliche like the "Bleed" drum groove. It's just iconic.
Subtitulos please
