    Apart from the abundant natural wonders and chill folks, the "big island" is the perfect place for a road trip. Due the the mild annual climate, the roads are amazing and even when you're in the middle of nowhere you can just cruise along for days and enjoy the incredible scenery without ever seeing a pothole. Same goes for the small islands like Salt Spring which is absolutely magical, and thanks to the extensive bird population has almost no bugs even in spring - coming from Ontario that alone is awesome :)

  • @katiemacquarrie8782
    @katiemacquarrie8782 5 років тому +1

    Stoked to see you featuring our island, but would like to clarify some things for visitors:
    1) We are not a “relatively small island” unless comparing us to say, Australia. Vancouver Island is massive and this video shows only a teeny tiny portion of the very south western part of the island. There is SO, SO much more to explore.
    2) That campsite that said it was in Sooke was most definitely not. That was Jordan River. An important place on our island in terms of surf history and worth the mention rather than being misnamed.
    3) I love when people feature Port Renfrew but am always blown away when they don’t mention or feature either Pacheedaht Beach (rivals every beach in Tofino) or Avatar Grove (makes Cathedral Grove - featured in this video - look silly). Botanical is great but there is so, so much more to the region than those tide pools.
    4) Cathedral Grove is a patch of land “donated” to us by MacMillan Bloedell (the logging company who decimated our entire island). Not so pretty when you see it that way. Avatar Grove however was protected by conservationists who fought hard to find and protect old growth on our island.
    5) I don’t think the Goldstream trestle is “unsafe” and “old”. It hasn’t been that long since I rode the train over this trestle, and it’s super sturdy. If the train could carry itself and passengers only 8 years ago, I think it’s pretty strong for random people walking on the tracks...
    It’s great to see mainlanders visiting and featuring our beautiful island :) Don’t forget to reach out to locals for correct info and stories when travelling!

      Is there another name for Pacheedaht beach? Can't find it on google maps - headed out that way next weekend. I was just on the goldstream trestle yesterday - I agree, it's not unsafe. You just have to watch your footing because there are gaps; as long as you don't trip and fall off the edge, you're fine

      @@Noahvde How about the Sunshine Coast Trail... ;) even better than the Juan De Fuca Trail.

      I'm planning a roadtrip in Febuary! Funnily enough, your itinerary is much the same as mine (i have a few extra stops planned for some hiking) and Tofino is on the maybe list for now depending if we wanna have the extra 3-4hours drive back onto our route.
      Would you recommend camping that time of year? While I know it doesn't get *too* cold, it's more the rain i'd be concerned about

    i like how you presented your video, highlights and your great narrative! ps provide more details though such as how to get there esp the trails and landmarks, street names or signs to watch out for esp for ones not within the city. the more details on how to get there, the better. thanks!

    Dude this work is amazing. Thanks for sharing. We moved to Canada and very close to Vancouver. We might take this one up hopefully summer of 2020.
    One thing I want to ask is that if you can set this one on an itinerary, complete with all the tiny hidden gem spots, that we can just print out and take along with us, that would be cheery on top of this video.
