Won't happen. If you listened closely they recorded the footage onto "Beta" (8:54 486x333) which means magnetic tape. Probably got overwritten or discarded or both. The computer processes a square of the image as seen in (9:22) which if you look at the still of their software at 9:31 you can just make out that they are 256x256 resolution. Even if the footage survived, you'd have to AI upscale the assets. This is the biggest problem with this method. With older games that used geometry meshes you could always subdivide the meshes and smooth shade to get some extra detail out of the original models. You could also upgrade the renderer to support more modern techniques. However, with footage, you can't remaster it at a higher resolution without physically refilming everything at that resolution. The alternative is AI Upscaling, but to go from such a low resolution to such a high one would be a bit difficult. It might be possible if they could train one specifically for the old MK titles, but probably won't happen.
It would be really cool if someone would make a game like this today, with recording each animation with video/camera like they did, and use that to make the game. It would probably turn out really unique and cool if done right. Be cool with HD cameras and whatnot
Wonderful this video dedicated to the making of Mortal Kombat 3. Well done to all those who made this splendid video game and extraordinary all the actors who played each character. And what about the three beautiful women: Kerri Hoskins (Sonya Blade), Lia Montelongo (Sindel) and Becky Gable (Kitana, Mileena and Jade).
the beauty of this game seems to me to be in the limitations of the technology of that time.
