To answer your question, Peter was born in New York but his father is of Russian and Polish descent. His mother comes from Scottish - Irish, Norwegian and Icelandic ancestry (according to Wikipedia lol) so that might explain his accent/unique voice
But idk, I’m Swedish, so is my dad. But my mum is from Scotland and my grandmother is from Finland, but I just sound like any other dude from Malmö. And I have a lot of friends whose parents aren’t from Sweden who also have “normal” accents… I think your accent isn’t super affected by how your family talks and more by everyone else in your surroundings where you grow up.
i was about to say he was a pollack on the accent thing. you already did it. althogh he looked like an urikhai, he was one of the nicest people as i heard. R.I.P.
I am so glad you are into Type-O and giving them exposure! It is awesome to find a channel that seems to share a love for this under rated band! Thank you and PLEASE keep them coming!!
seeing him rip the strings off his bass with his bare hands at the end of the concert back in Nov. 2000 at the House of Blues in Chicago is still one of the best concert moment of my life.
I had a chance to watch them play in 2001. Then before he passed I moved to Pennsylvania and worked at a rehab with the kids, went over to adults for some yearly changing and there he was. Peter Steele. He was huge!! I talked to him and was very witty. I from NY area so he liked my accent. Told him I was a fan. Then got into arguement about him days later cause his counselor was showing workers his playgirl photos. Glad he did not know that happened behind the scenes. He passed away about 2 miles from my house. Did not know he move to Scranton or would of loved to shoot the shit with him again and pick his brain.
Yes, definitely worth posting! Yes, he was huge! Heeheehee! If you know, you know. I'm really glad you picked this interview. The other guy was Josh Silver, the keyboard guy. He and Peter were long-time friends. Peter teased him about his hair and called it broccoli. 😅 I hope we get more soon. Yesterday (4/14) was the 12th anniversary of Peter's death.💚
I have loved and listened to type o since '96. I saw them twice live. Definately one of my favorite bands of all time. I am enjoying your journey. I recommend Red Water (Christmas Mourning)!
@@16dbuse Can't go wrong with October Rust. Other than "Girlfriend" anyway. Girlfriend is a cute song but to me it's not the song to introduce someone to Type O. Cheers!
It’s important to understand when watching/reading Type O Negative interviews, is that they often exaggerate or outright make stuff up. Pete would pull it off so dead pan, and no one would question him on it. It’s some of the best stuff. Check out Pete’s 90’s talk show circuit he did it’s amazing. I think he was on Jerry Springer, Riki Lake, and maybe one other…. Can’t remember. But the whole band is a hilarious interview
There's probably no one more a lifelong fan, nor a bigger Authority on anything Type O Negative, than myself. So here or a few songs that are a must here because Peter was a master songwriter and felt or experienced anyway, everything he wrote about. Here's a top 10 must hear songs... "Creepy green light", or ...."everyone I love is dead" ,"bloody kisses",or "wolf moon" or "green man", or "Christian woman", "red water", "haunted" , and one of my favorites... "In Praise of Bacchus"...and like with anesthesia, another one of my favs. About love lost....check out "world coming down"....and yeah, he was 6 ft. 7 in.
In Praise of Bacchus (and I'll add IYDKMIGTHTKY) are underrated. Same with Todd's Ship Gods, Blood and Fire (out of the ashes mix), Tripping a Blind Man, White Slavery etc etc I could go on🤣 too much good shit from a legendary band🙏
Peter stood 6'7", but some sources even say 6'8". He was from Brooklyn and you can't hide that accent as much may try.. My parents were both from Brooklyn it is such a interesting accent for the New York City boroughs. You can always which borough someone is from by their accent, lol.
My favorite concert was seeing them and lacuna coil in Kansas city. Peter was so damn cool. Also got to see them in Oklahoma as well. So glad your digging them but you haven't really hit the what would be controversial nowadays music they did. Alot of tounge in cheek funny and disturbing stuff. You either have the sense of humor or you don't lol. Cant wait for next week video!!!
I saw TON live in Helsinki at the Tuska Open Air Heavy Metal festival in 2005(?ish). They were headlining the 1st day of the 3-day festival. to finish their show Pete hit his bass through the main stage deck, and it got stuck in there like the excalibur sword in the stone. :)
I know I keep bringing up September Sun, but if/when you give it a listen, it will confuse you even more about Peter's accent, lol...(yes, it's pretty much a Brooklyn accent)
September Sun would be an awesome one to do. Both for the song as well as the landmarks / history mentioned. I’m really enjoying seeing this new Type O discovery. I discovered them over 30 years ago and is nice to see someone else discover them. Just wait until she finds out that this band sucks 😁
If you find interviews with the whole band (They tend to be inappropriately hilarious 🤣) its worth it, check them out they are constantly messing with each other
Want to hear more intricacies of their sound or why "It's difficult to just call it one thing?", try "Bloody Kisses" (the song) and "Too Late / Frozen"

I won’t spoil it-just listen to it. ALL of it. Lmao. You won’t regret it . And yes this was worth posting! I remember you saying you were curious what his talking voice sounded like, and it was nice to see your reaction. Love You to Death music video is amazing as well
The sheer discomfort on your face while he spoke. Peter just has the uncanny ability to make people get icky when he talks, honestly, me too. I’m one of the people who hates him when he speaks ahah
A new Type O Negative video next week! :)
YES! Can't wait to see what you do!
Sweet!!
In Praise of Bacchus.
Looking forward to it!

Brooklyn Nyc , Midwood
They lived across the street from each other..
@@stephenpriola4301 If you're talking about Peter and his parents, he lived in their basement for most of his life.
I rarely subscribe to UA-cam channels but I subscribed to yours, Lauren, because I enjoy following your Type O journey :)
please keep reacting to his interviews, he's so funny

Haha Josh "I'm not a keyboardist" Silver's cameo .. got to love the broccoli 😅

I hadn't seen that interview before, though I have seen many. Thanks.
Peter: "I do respect my body...". Also Peter: drinks twelve-ish bottles before, during and after a concert. 🤔

Peter was a very unique man.
I believe the other guy is Josh Silver, he's the keyboardist.. if memory serves Pete was 6 feet 7 and around 260 ish pounds.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this but Peter was on the Jerry Springer show if you wanna check that out. He was also in playgirl. XD

You might refer to his teatrical dracula-ish accent :D
He intentionally changes his voice for singing.. he's playing a part and they don't take it too seriously.
My husband's voice is like Peter Sings. Slavic accents are so hawwwt

I think Peter was the first to pose turgid for playgirl
I think there’s another interview with him on jerry springer.
