2015 Audi A5 2.0T Coupe (6MT) - WR TV POV Test Drive

- This week we’re at the helm of Audi’s answer to the BMW 4-Series, the A5. Unlike the top-spec RS5 we drove last year, this Audi coupe comes with a feature rarely found in modern Audis sold in the US - a manual gearbox.
If the figures for the A5’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine look familiar (with its output of 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque), it’s because this mill, under slightly different specification, can also be found in the 2015 Volkswagen GTI.
While we loved that motor matched up with the six-speed manual transmission in the VW, the tuning in the A5 gives its performance in the Audi a decidedly less urgent flavor than what we found in the VW. Whether that's by design or simply a biproduct of changes made to use the drivetrain in this car is a bit of a mystery to us.
Nevertheless, the Audi still has plenty going for in the style and luxury departments. Our tester came dressed to the nines with the Sport package (sport suspension, sport seats, selectable drive modes), the Premium Plus package (various interior upgrades), the Technology package (Audi MMI navigation, backup camera, safety assists) and the optional 10-spoke, 19-inch wheels wrapped in high performance rubber.
While the base 2015 Audi A5 2.0T manual coupe rings up exactly $40,000 before destination, the additional packages bring this A5 to nearly $50K at $48,475 after all is said and done. Some might consider that a little steep given the drivetrain, but the A5 has strengths found elsewhere.

It's very clear shifts are rough ,brutal if i can say.

What I find most irritating is that he always takes it out of gear instead of just pressing the clutch which can cause dangerous situations
@@Josh_0579 your not supposed to press and hold a dry clutch (which is what most car manuals are) as it prematurely wears it out
this car is so underrated! Especially when its a manual.
Do you think 220 hp is an accurate figure? thats what it is rated online.
Thomas Rock Audi likes to underrate their numbers i know that much.
When they give a figure it usually means "ziss engine vill alvays produce ziss much horse pawah at ze vorst conditions."
Meaning in ideal conditions it will produce a noticeable amount more. Hence the question. I bet its fun as hell tho.

Definitely, only issue is that it feels like its running out of breath in the higher rpm making it just a bit boring especially compared to its competitors. A reputable tune/remap is a MUST to wake this car up, I promise you that

Nice vid. out of curiosity, why back out of the spot in the beginning instead of just pulling through? Saves wear & tear on the clutch if you engage it once (forward) instead of twice (reverse and then forward)...

Tom C. Compared to most other German car brands. You are aware that this cockpit is from 2005 right? It had some minor upgrades but that's about it. Do you own one?
***** If you say so. I might be too spoiled since I have this car since 2009 in my inventory plus I test cars, so I am extremely tired of this cockpit. But the next gen will be amazing. I just had the new TTS and the new cockpit is great.

Habe ich tatsächlich auch schon öfters überlegt, allerdings nicht mit der "Kopf" Kamera sondern über den GoPro Brustgurt. Evtl. wird es in Zukunft auch ein paar Szenen im Drive & Sound gäben die sich dieser Perspektive bedienen. Grundsätzlich war ich aber nie ein großer Fan von der Kopf-Kamera da sie zu unruhig ist und häufig die GoPros dann auch ausschließlich die Straße fokussieren/belichten. Wenn man die GoPro tiefer setzt ist das Erlebnis mMn besser :)

Awesomeness! How big is the difference between an A7 and an A5? I know the A7 is based on the A6 and the A5 is based on the A4, but what about in terms of performance, build quality and consumption? Also, fiability.

the A5 is not the Answer to the 4-Series, the current generation A5 is around now for quite a few years, like 2007 or so
+jumo ga the 4-series is actually the 3-series coupe. so your argument dont make any sense. even if you were right the Audi a5 chassis is a direct competitor in this segment against the 4-3 series. just make a coupe version with over powered engine fyi it exist....

It’s actually the other way around. The 4 series from BMW is the answer to the A5. Both cars are coupés and also offer 4 door variants with frameless window doors.

Your videos are very good but you clearly have lots to improve in your driving. For example you are twisting the wheel too much on situation that it is not needed 0:38, and also your shifting seems pointless in several moments, where for example you get on the highway or whatever it is and you shift to fifth gear and slow down where you should accelerate and join in the lane in 3rd or 4th gear. Other example is when your accelerate, squeeze 3rd and 4th gear and suddenly you shift to 5th gear and stay on 2000 rpms. Thats not needed for this engine with such high revolutions and not good for the clutch and turbine. If you dont want to accelerate dont shift to 5th gear but just stay in the 4th without stepping on the pedal. :)
exactly! all you said just right. It seems he is driving a car with less than 90 bhp. Test drive a automatic gear will be much better in order to feel the car.
