How would you build your ultimate home studio? Detached? Booths?
detached & booths. I've had my studio attached always but with the kids, it's becoming more difficult to keep the sound out. like you said treatment is different from sound isolation and my room is all about treatment. when it's quiet in the house, the room is great... but when the kids are loud... the room is useless. so definitely detached.
Nic bro good job
Just started building a new house in the Uk, taking over a double garage space as a drum / band room - I like a single live and mixing room - the timing of this studio tour was perfect and very inspiring - amazing how pro this looks with thoughtful and stylish design choices - subscribed / many thanks!!
Best channel ever man! Are all the walls/bass traps in these rooms drywall on the surface are some fabric with exposed absorbtion behind?
Ultimately studio, Detached for sure, can control bleed over way better, if that wasn’t an option then a basement space w/ concrete walls and tall ceilings to treat and air gap.
Would love to have a live room with vocal quiet room and 3 or 4 amp closets for tracking a live performance while maximizing separation for the recordings and a really good personal monitoring system Aviom/ P-16 etc.
I’m going to steal your word Andrew but the space needs to be “VIBEY” I think this latest garage studio got it rite by being very streamlined w/ neutral colors so you can be much more experimental with up lighting/ LED rgbw strips/ dimable white whites and warm whites and can achieve this very much on a budget.
This is like the MTV cribs for home studios
Agreed
Same
the original idea lol
thanks for checking out my space friends!
A home studio is a space that enhances your creativity. That space can be anywhere but as long as you have your bare essentials (soundcard, microphone, DAW, Instrument of choice) you're home...studio ;)
and coffee. Whatever gets the juices flowing and the production going.
A home studio my ideal is having a midi keyboard, Small/Medium montiors, DAW (Ableton, Logic), Interface, Decent Dynamic micriophone. Im working on getting decent microphone and Standalone interface aside from my mixer interface
A great example of how if you love your craft and you invest you get rewards. Cool guy, love to see someone pumped about their craft with no thought about money.
thanks!
Just noticed the portable fireplace underneath the mixer 😊
that's, not studio! that's heaven
This IS the recording industry these days. Wow - what an awesome studio! Sooooo cool.
Thanks!
Thanks man! Follow me! @benrenoproducer
Talking about how kemper works like we’ve never heard of it 😂 love it had me laughing
i'm from Brazil, and before your videos, what comes to my mind when someone ask me "what is a home studio" was only one room, with one guitar and a scarllet 2i2, without isolation and every sound to the fone. my mind blows with your videos! It's a big universe when we say "homestudio"
I'm glad you are enjoying the content. Thank you for watching!
An accessible place where you are able to make the music you love with the instruments you like. Mine is the most minimalist thing that exists which I class as a studio, but it can range to the likes of this one.
Hey, pass this on to Ben! If he presses the 4:1 and 20:1 buttons together, that's identical to all-buttons-in. Learned that from Andrew Scheps!
Thanks, will do
Would be really cool to see more “composer style” rooms. 😄
I hope that I can have a home studio one day. Like an actual home studio. Those fancy vocal and instrument booths would fit right into a house setup. Have little mini set ups in each booth tailored to the instrument. Run everything back to a beautiful hybrid setup with a console and analog gear with patch wires everywhere but in a clean and beautiful way. Make it look like you’re walking into the engineering section of a star ship.
Get saving!
@@andrewfoley3808 I don’t think saving would cut it lol
@@MisterRorschach90 well shit homie better get investing then
A home studio is a place, where you are able to record and develop your ideas for the purposes you need and you want to do.
Thanks Kevin!
@@benrenoproducer you're welcome! You got a really beautiful setup!
Oh he is in Nashville, so the CAPI's make total sense haha. It's like Burl and ATC's over there, just everywhere. Love CAPI. Man this room looks incredible, it's vibey and well equipped. And you can tell it probably sounds amazing to record drums.
Thanks, yeah he's got a great setup!
Man, all that sound bouncing around would drive me crazy.
I love how discrete it is, regular looking garage on the outside, command center on the in!!
What a great space!!
It isn't now.lol
Thanks man!!!!
Another great video tour. Cheers 👍🏻
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it
Definitely. I really enjoy these videos and your content. Thanks for your work 🙂
That vocal mic is two and a half grand. For a pro setup, totally reasonable. For a lot of us, half our budget! Maybe one day...
Something to aspire to when you want that $20,000 sound but can only justify a $2,500.
@@AndrewMasters For sure. I think I could justify something like that if I get to the point where I have paying clients.
i record here, Ben is the man and is by far one of the best in Nashville!!!!
Ohhh those Alpha 65s though! Also, all the other gear that is significantly more expensive than the 65s is pretty dope too haha
Wow, many of these tours push the boundary of what a home studio is in my mind! I feel bless that we live in a time where we can have professional quality setups with the comfort of a home studio! Thanks Andrew
Trying to help people see what’s possible!

Oh no, just when I need to leave home you upload a video... Can't wait to get home again and watch it!
haha thanks dude!
You gotta do the Tiny Tape Room! Would be such a good episode
Haven't seen it but sounds sweet!
I can hear the acoustic issues right away in this room
But that is not always a bad thing.
If you can get used to the flaws - but it's nice to work in a reasonably tuned room with decent monitors - less guess work which will save you time , and get you better mix
Super comfortable studio Ben. I was recently in Nashville with my family. Great place. My daughter will likely attend Lipscomb University pursuing songwriting, performance. She's been playing the piano for 12 years, guitar for 5 years, and singing, writing.
I love the composer setup. It's definitely different from a traditional mixing setup, but it's ideal for that particular situation. For myself, I'd prefer that listening environment while writing big orchestral pieces. Great space, great gear, great job!
Glad you like it dear.
Looks really good. That room reverb/sound can be really useful on the drums, but I'm sure it takes getting used to when mixing.
Man your channel will blow up for sure !
A home studio to me means a studio at home. lol
A home studio is a studio in your home or on your property. But things are changing so fast, I think home studio will eventually become redundant - I bet at least 90% of all studios these days are home studios.
Oh for sure!
Dude! I can't wait for Monday's now. Always start my day with your studio tour videos and a coffee before I get to work in my little home studio. This is so inspiring. Keep em' coming!
That is awesome. Brings some meaning to 'Happy Monday' I suppose :)
Yeeeessssss. Love that.

Love this guy. (And the studio, obviously!!!)😎
Congrats on the growth, loving the vids and so happy to check out all these cool studios and their respective channels!
Thanks dude!
Thanks Dan for watching the tour!
Fans squad ❤️
Thanks!
What a beautiful room!!! So comfortable... Love the decor!!!
first thing that comes to my mind is an amp wall with a switcher and an sm57'ed oversized 412 cab!
That’s the dream, with a little Eric valentine mic robot.
@@AndrewMasters Dear Lord, please let me be the one to possess all the goodness...
Nice character and even better studio
So true.. I am a drummer, then guitarist.. transfering recently into the composer mode ..
WOW.......I just have a setup on one side of a multi use room which is used for VR gaming internet surfing music and a spare bedroom this is epic.
Top 10 ways to start a work shift is a home studio tour!
haha yes!
LOVE this studio, Ben seems like such a cool and genuine guy, knows the ins and outs of every piece of gear. You can tell he earned every piece of it and appreciates all of it.
Thanks for the kind comments my friend! Love what I do for sure! Follow me @benrenoproducer
Thanks again Josh!
Very Nice Place and You Have a My dream Gears I love This Video
Congrats!
Maybe my favorite space to date! Love it!
Home studio is when the studio is in the area of your home!! that's my approach to it
i think it needs more sound treatment. you can hear the echo. It's a great set up though for sure. Wish i had the money to spend on alot of that gear.
Beatifull studio and location, love open field located studios
thank you!
I shared this one with my Studio Recording class as a virtual field trip. I love these! Keep it up.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the share!
@@AndrewMasters I'm building out my own home studio in a TuffShed in my backyard. I post videos on the progress on my UA-cam channel. (Not as slick as yours, though.) I share your videos with my Studio Recording class at least once a week. I plan on looking you up next time I'm in Nashville. My daughters live there. We usually see them for Christmas, but not this year. (Dang it!)
That’s super cool! I appreciate the support. Congrats on the build, that’s my favorite.
Thanks so much Mark for watching my tour!
Super nice!
Thanks!
Beautiful studio.
lovely tour.
This is awesome!
!WoW really nice man the way it's set up blows me away
Super cool spot!
I love the use of space, the functionality and good vibes! Andrew, as always... another good vibe studio tour ~ Keep em coming!
Thanks my man
Thanks Jeremy for watching the tour!
I just cant believe how many studio's there are just in Nashville - keep up the good work
Thank you!
It's cool that he can get that live sound when he wants it, and then close in the mixing area for a tighter sound as well. great composer setup
Absolutely!
Thank you for checking out my studio!
Wow that place rules!
No, you rule
@@AndrewMasters noooooo ... YOU rule!
The space and setup is amazing omg
that's some hella gear right there! great job as always.
fun series. Inspiring. thx
Best one yet
Thanks Rob!
Awesome studio! I love the vibe. Thanks for the tour :)
Thanks!
Thanks for checking it out, as always, LAYLA!
Thanks Laney!
Nice studio that seems to have a good vibe.
Perfect.
I love your videos watching these motivated me to start a home studio🤎
Nice guy. Good space.
Great video like always ;)
I will ear the accoustics each studio. That will be so cool :)
Thanks!
Room looks amazing!
The monitor positioning is just hilarious. primary's way to high and the secondary's waayyyy to wide. so maybe fix that before you try to fix the reverb in the room.
Ben's studio is very clean and pulished, as well as his music. Congrats!
Appreciate you! Thanks for checking out the tour of my studio!
Rocking the Yamaha rm800, great board.
That studio looks amazing indeed. Holy shoot! 😍
thank you Manny!
This is the future telling you you’ll have 75K subs soon :)
Every struggling artist dream studio ❣️❣️
Hey Ben so much fun to get the tour~ Snaps shots are nice but a walk through is better. Really proud of you! The room looks great and that kind of rig keeps you inspired on days when you're not. Very happy for you. You're getting a great sound! Wishing you kids all the best... God bless Ed Genovese Composer/ Drummer
Ed thanks man!
Great Video 🙏
Thanks!
Converting my dinning room into a Studio/Office.
I hope you hit the 50k subscribers soon bro !
Thanks dude!
Light the feeling room to work need the vibes to make them hitz.I wanna work with everyone in the Music industry as far as rock blues country So yeah its coming.😎🤩😉
we use the cv12 at our studio. its KILLER
I have a hairball and I can do the all buttons in. I bet there's just a small adjustment that needs to be made inside.
Just INSPIRING Andrew!!!🙏💜💜💜💜
New subscriber!!!💜💜💜
Awesome! Thank you!
"cardoid" I like it
SO COOL I LOVE IT THANK YOU PS MICHAEL SANTANA.
hi really good job, I just discover your youtub channel & love it. big thx!!
Awesome, thank you!
WOW! This is exactly what I needed. This video right here! You just saved me like a 1500 bucks because I thought I had to put hardwood but Im sticking with the concrete in my 2 car garage conversion. Definitely gonna ask you to come out to Dallas when I'm done. I think it'll be worth it. This was excellent!!!!
thanks friend!
Inspiring video! I’m building two studios currently because I can’t fit my drums into my new apartment so l’m turning my old bedroom into a drum studio and new place is for everything else. Enjoying seeing how everyone you visit is creative with their space thanks for the video
Thanks Jack!
i love ADK microphones
Wicked space, really tight vibe.
I’d probs have bigger speakers tho! 😋
I'm having a binge on your vids today. Because of these videos, I've ditched my multitrack recorder machine and decided to go down the computer route. I've now settled for just Studiolive from Presonus and just ordered an ATOM...which is literally an atom compared to all the stuff I see on this channel
You have to visit Doctor Mix, and his new studio!
Yes
"Killer"
8:53 AHHH the dust xD
Andrew sir, need a detailed video about your Mac
good idea! i'd like this too
Someday! I broke down the specs and exactly how i set it up in my "Investing in a home studio 2019" video
@@AndrewMasters Has your computer setup changed since that video?
@@airutub3r nice question bro
It has more software installed on it, but otherwise the hardware is the same. A big part of the computer running smoothly is how I manage the data. I did a video on that as well called... "I left my hard drive at the airport"
he mentioned that he doesnt play piano and transposes. i used to do that as a guitar player too. let him know to look for scale mode ion his komplete ultimate. it makes all the white keys whatever scale you want. helps us guitar players
my best friend made me the desk with the tray for a full 88 keyboard for just under 200$ so it's hard for me to grasp what's difficult about building a desk. all it takes is a talented friend.
That IS the hard part! Most people don't have a talented friend. :)
Love the vibe but sounds so "verby" (at least it's what it comes out from the speakers)... how can you mix with such acoustics?
The listening spot is pretty dialed in!
i think the situation is like that for his composer situation. but when he needs a tighter sound, he can get it by moving some stuff around. not sure exactly cause im not done watching yet. are you more of a mixer? or writer? I would be mixing so i hear what you mean with needing that tight sound vs. verb.
@@timewasterc I'm an engineer, so I'm used to work in control rooms (mine included). Although I like a small bit of live feel in a room (dead rooms are fatiguing in the long run), I've never been able to work in a room that shared monitoring and recording purposes. To me it's too much of a compromise. That much echo sounds like an untreated room with no absorption whatsoever on the ceiling. But if he can get consistent results in it, then good for him.
@@lore88824 andrew says often something that really hit home for me the first time i heard it: it's what you are used to that works the best. i agree with you that this room sounds like it has no treatment and is not tight at all (especially when he does the 'clap test') but i bet the desk area is a lot tighter and it works well for him simply because he is used to it. he's also not a mixer most of the time, i don't think. since you are an engineer i can definitely see this situation being fatiguing to your ears because you need that tight sound nonstop to hear what you are doing with precision. this guy has his stuff placed in film/tv so for his purposes, this works well which is inspiring to those of us who have not yet dialed in our treatment haha.
@@timewasterc As I said, if the guy can get consistent results in the mixing spot, and those results translate well to the outside world (which is what matters the most) then good. To cite the great Tony Maserati "a good engineer is able to get a good mix in a bathroom with a Mackie mixer", sometimes you learn to get around the issues in a room, although that takes time. I was just surprised to hear that much slap and live verb in a room where a speakers are set up, more so in a newly built room. I'd like to listen to that spot myself.
I hear a-lot of reflection during the interview...
I was looking for this comment. It’s kinda bad tbh for a studio of that size and expense.
Was thinking the same thing and started scrolling through to confirm lol
Plus the mac is under the mixing point. I'd put the mac in an acoustically isolated space. I'd buy a Nuemann.
Those drums will sound cool though. This is the kind of room that would benefit huge from 6-8" thick panels that convert into diffusors.
yep terrible acoustics. unsuficient tretment and badly positioned. nothing on the ceiling either.
one pair of monitors way too wide, the other better, but displays are masking them.
but i presume this guy might be doing final mixing somewhere else, or by someone else.
not uncommon if you do a lot of scoring in bigger production context, you have a mixer, producer, orchestrator down the line.
