I’m an ex employee who worked at Circular Quay station from mid 1986 to late 2009. I had many good times there (Olympics & Paralympics in 2000, World Youth Week, NYE, the Sydney winning the hosting of 2000 Olympics night). This was like one big flashback. Thanks for the memories mate 👍😄

Wow I loved the bit at the beginning. a very memerable time then :). It made me think about how cool it would be seeing an F set (Red Rattler) clunking in in the summer of '56. Very Insperational :)

Back in my early days as a very young child, I can just barely remember my dad taking me on a ferry trip and pointing out Circular Quay station saying it was a new station and would open very soon. I was only 3 years old then. The Cahill expressway was being built at the same time and was completed by the demise of the Harbour Bridge trams in 1958.

Circular Quay is an interesting station if simple, that and it sits under the Cahill Expressway on top of it pretty much.
I also found this and Wynyard to be my FAVOURITE stations in Sydney.
I just can't help but love the tunnels they dug out in the city itself to let the trains travel through the city so effectively.
Wether on the city circle line or going to the airport, ect.

Its interesting to see how the changes add up in 60 years. One very worthwhile station for a look, if some photos can be found, would be Bondi Junction where very little of the 1979 station seems to remain, apart from the more obvious shafts and parts of the tunnels.

At 14.32 There's two stations on that old map on the East Hills Line that have long since changed names Herne Bay is today's Riverwood and Dumbleton Today's Beverley Hills

That old 1939 map predated about three things that were to happen thirty years after Carlingford was electrified in 1959 the Camden Branch closed on New Year's Day 1963 and Campbelltown was Electrified on May the 4th 1968 110 years to the day after the line itself opened

Interestingly in Underground Maps Unravelled: Explorations in Information Design by J. Roberts Maxwell, Maxwell states that the 1939 Sydney map is the first known copy of the classic Beck London map.
