i was interested in this project when it was being built. incredible engineering. the underground stations have a distinct smell to them. i understand this to be brake dust from the trains as they came from high in chatswood going underneath the river.
Great video hope to see more like it in future! nice to see you actually documented the old ECRL at all stations - hearing the old DVAs in 2024 certainly feels odd, especially "via Chatswood"
How? The metro has - better capacity - better disabled access - better frequencies - faster running times - earlier and later start/end times It is an improvement in every way
@raph6931 Yes, more capacity and faster running times because it's separated from the existing system. If it was kept to the existing system (Sydney trains) now with the CBD relief line built you could easily run double deck trains with 5 minute headways during peak times. Double deck trains can fit alot more people in one sitting and standing capacity. However alas, the tunnels are too small 😢. Also the metro system is much cheaper to maintain and operate in the long term. I would of prefered the Sydney trains system , larger tunnels, with more versatility across the entire network to allow for suburban and even intercity trains for future growth.
@jakez6851 5 minute headways is nothing. The metro can run at sub 2 minute frequencies. DD trains are hard capped at 3 minute frequencies (look to the Paris RER to see what I mean). DD can't fit more people than metro trains, btw. They just fit more seats. The metro with its six cars has a 1000 person capacity. Eight car DD trains have a 1200 capacity. So metro trains fit more people than a DD train of equal length. As you mention, DD trains are more expensive to purchase and maintain. DD trains also have inferior acceleration and braking, and inferior dwell times. As such, the metro is better than a potential Sydney Trains relief line in every single way.

That brake dust is why the air quality is more than double the safe limit down there!

also loved the race with Sydney trains it was cool to see!
Epic video, I especially like the comparison between both Metro & Trains manifesting in the Thumbnail of the video.
Yeah it’s a cool thumb
This stop is Victoria Cross alight for North Sydney CBD
Doors will open on the right. The sentence for “doors open»”
Doors open »
Amazing video! Keep up the good work 🎉!
great editing! love the thumbnail
The ECRL T1/T9 link was originally suppose to be apart of the EPRL which was basically Chatswood to Parramatta via Epping and Carlingford
Carlo doesn’t exist any more
This is a all stop service to Chatswood. Next stop is Victoria Cross.
i still feel like ECRL are still part of sydney trains line
Connection line with
T1 north shore & western💛
T9 Northern line♥
Please stand
