Dave I like the way you have shown the 10 C's as a everyday emergency kit for when you go out hiking or exploring. I have a similar kit in my truck for when i decide to stop and checkout a new trail or wooded area. Great job. looking forward to see the rest of the series. More cooking videos please.

It's funny about a month ago I bought a Serbian military pack almost that same size and have nearly the same setup for a day pack. I have an Eno hammock and my tarp is a cheap poly tarp. One thing I'm carrying that may be a little redundant (since water can be boiled) is a sawyer mini filter. It weighs nearly nothing takes up hardly any space. I just feel it may be a quicker way to get hydrated in the summer when heat casualties may make building a fire not so practical. Of course I live in middle Georgia so the summers are a little more brutal. Great video! Thanks!

Very clever setup with the sleep/cover system Dave, definitely got me thinking. Do they make longer versions of the surplus hammocks? Being 6' 2" and 240 pounds, that may be a little short for me.

All those tarps weigh as much as a $50 tent from the big box store. While I appreciate the versatility of tarps I think carrying two tarps, trash bags, stakes, a hammock, a misquito net, and the yards and yards of cordage required to hang everything is a lot more cumbersome. The cumulative cost and bulk start looking pretty silly compared to a simple tent that has everything you need, will last for years, and sets up easy.
so I'm noticing that the lid on your 32oz bottle is very different from mine. Does it have the rubber seal thing that constantly pops out of the lid and is literally the only thing I wish was different and if no where can I get one?
If you hang at the right height, the stretch of paracord probably leaves you with about a foot to foot and a half from the ground while in the hammock. Also, the only time I have heard of paracord snapping on someone while in a hammock is when they are novices and do not understand that you have to inspect your gear when you put it away and when you put it up again. Its pretty easy to spot damage to paracord, which is usually caused by the bark from the trees they hung it from. In this case, Dave used mule tape, not 550 cord, to wrap the trees with. Semper Fi
Even a fall from a height of one foot while in the supine position is enough to damage the lumbar and tail bone regions ... The fact that paracord stretches is what makes it a less than ideal product for this application. In the cases where I have seen paracord fail, it was used as suspension and not a tree strap. It broke due to elongation. There are many variables that can be a factor...for example; How much a person weighs and the brand of paracord used..... In this setup, paracord is undoubtedly the weakest link.
Dave, My name is Jonathan. I'm retired Army we used Camel Baks. How do you feel about that as addition to a kit? I ask because I find value in them. Along with your 10 C's and a bag with a bladder system built in, which I have would be bullet proof. Tell me what you think. I respect you input.
+CanadianKnifeCollector the msr dromedary water bladder can be used to boil water you just hang it close to the fire with the plastic opening facing away from the fire it's black and will absorb heat very well
Are you sure that it was the same model? Also, I'd think heavy canvas would be hot (not that they wouldn't have used it in Vietnam, they used blue wool uniforms in the Philippines). Could you post a picture?

There were different hammocks made then as they are now.Several of my uncles were in Nam one was Airborne Ranger the other Special Forces and both of their 'Jungle Hammocks' are just like the one Dave is using here which are nylon.I have a ARVN Hammock from 1965 I bought online,it was used in Nam and from what I have been told the guys would used their poncho as cover if a mosquito net was not available for the hammock and not many people had them then.The canvas hammocks were used in WWII and rarely during Nam etc due to weight.
dear patriot freedom, maybe you should buy a "Box of Sherpas" to carry you tent in your emergency situation. If you was paying attention, this is what you would carry in a situation in which you wasn't camping and hadn't planned on staying the night in the woods etc etc. I have a tent too, but I don't carry it with me and my back pack in the woods by my house when me and my wife takes day hikes together.

Snugpak makes a nice similar size hammock. I like the smaller hammock because i dont cocoon in it. I can look out while in it.

with a hammock it also dosnt matter if your on a hill or mountain side. you will sleep better in it than on the sloping ground.

I think camelbaks are great but are not a replacement for a metal container that can be used to boil water, make medicines, or cook.

If I can put it into the Fire to create a Charing Chamber or Medicinal Decoctions, I wouldn't carry it brother for this purpose
