@@akaalexanderking I saw their live stream recently. I'm no expert with things like mixing, but I thought it sounded good. Of course, I might just have weird ears !!!
Rolling Quartz is a promising rock band from Korea. Actually refreshing to see a rock band out of Korea where everything is K-Pop. They do remind me of early BAND-MAID as well. This is their debut and it's a great start for these ladies. They've done mostly covers before. They have performed this song in several online live streams. Some are posted on their channel. Great analysis as usual. 👍🤘
@@akaalexanderking Definitely think they're going to be challenging Band-Maid in the near future if they get the opportunity. They have done some English language covers in livestreams - by the likes of Motley Crue and Skid Row.
I've listened to this song with my bose pc speakers and my sennheiser 598cs, I don't really understand what you mean by the bass being loud. You mean the drum or the guitar? I loved the aggressive drums. They let every instrument shine. It was an artistic choice i think, they wanted to make the song sound aggressive. I like when bands try new things, creativity is a rare quality in the music industry. That's a good point about the young bands though. Young people are keeping rock alive.
Good song & video GG. Yes, good comment recommendation from Wirmish I think GG would like that song from "TELECIDE"- "Tied Up Memories" as well. "TELECIDE" - "Cycle of Addiction" would be more of the heavier aggressive choices though.
I think it was about two months ago I found them because they had done a cover of a Brats song. It will be interesting to see where they go with more or their own material.
Their Live Sound has definitly are more ballanced mix to it so you can hear All the Instruments on a very even out Level and Just in My Opinion i really think they definitly got potential to bring actual K Rock Music to the World since Rock was more of a strong Suit for Japan but that might change now with them and true as some here said they played some Covers from. Various Artist and they did a really good Job on that and they also have Two more Original Songs called Delight And Holler which is their most recent one and it also got a Live Video straight away 😊
Nice reaction and I think this group has potential, singer has a very good voice and great control. I generally use my ear buds when listening and didn't notice the bass overwhelming the others but with my headphones, the bass does seem too much.
I actually like that the bass doesn't dissapear into the background like with most bands an I think its their style. In most of their demos and live stuff the bass is more prominent.
Thanks for doing this. I'd been hearing about them but didn't get around to checking them out. This is one of the reasons for watching your channel--finding new interesting stuff. So, this may be a bit obscure for your audience, but at moments the singer reminded me of Dolores O'Riordan (RIP). Cool group, I do hope they power on. Oh, I didn't mind the bass.
I agree, the mix is a little strange. They only have a couple originals songs and released one cd single called "Blaze" so far. The name of the band comes from the two bands the members came from. Rolling Girls and Rose Quartz. They have a very large fan base called Diadem. They have coordinated two live steams with Japanese act BRATS.
@@akaalexanderking Yes, there are a few Korean rock bands out there. One that come to mind is "Walking after U". They are all female as well and have a small catalog of albums. An interesting fact is they were formed from two bands as well. "Karma" is a good one to start with.
Nope, what you noticed about the production I noticed well, and I listened with 2 different speakers(a Bose SoundLink, and a pair of Audioengine HD3's), a good set of ear buds, and a pair of IEMs. The problem with the bass being so overpowering is it took away any spacial definition for the other instruments. I think they needed to lower it in the mix, and use a scooped EQ To open things up, almost seems that wasn't done at all. I also noticed very prominent keyboard parts with no keyboardist. On the composition side this seemed a bit simple, even compared to Thrill: no pre-chorus, turn around, no variations of rhythmic patterns (either drums or bass). IMO I just had the impression they were playing the parts of a female rock band, and not actually a band. But maybe we they release more songs they will become more of a band.
@@ChrisPage68 that depends on your definition of a band. Yes, they technically are a band. But, I don't get the feeling from this that they are a Band. Ie, I don't get the feeling that they write and arrange their own music, I don't get the feeling that they are in control (or at least have input on) their presentation and image. I don't get the feeling (from the results in this recording) that they had any input into the engineering and production of this recording. I'll provide an example of this last point: there are some very major keyboard parts in this recording. They are forward enough in the mix that they could almost be lead lines. Now, bands will use extra parts at times in their songs. But most of the time they aren't so forward in the mix because they are meant to just supplement or fill in a bit of the sound. The decision on this song, however, feels more like a producer or engineer deciding the keyboard addition was a way to fix something wrong with the recording. It's decisions like that make this song and the band feel like they are being manufactured, and not genuine. And it's that genuine feel that I am looking for when I talk about them being a Band as opposed to a band. This could be proven wrong. If I had to judge Band Maid based solely on Thrill, I would have come to a similar conclusion, but we know now that they are a real Band that writes their own music and lyrics, and arranges their songs...and find some amazing producers and engineers to work with in the studio. Hopefully this will be the case for Rolling Quartz too.
@@unattributed1641 I think the feeling that you have is this overproduced plastic like feel, that I had in the beginning with a lot of Korean artists. I think hat is due to how in the Korean music industry productionstyle is very heavily influenced by K-Pop. They actually write their own Songs and are an propper Band, and if you look into their live stuff and Demos which aren't that overproduced you can see that. That's one of the reasons I like their live stuff more, even though I'm used to the productionstyle by now
A first for me to. Band-Maid vibes. Also the singing with some english lines. But, sounds good. Missed maidMonday. But honestly the 2 hour livestream “the Day of Maid” Monday was great. Thank you for this reaction.
And if the example of Japan ends up catching on? And if rock music returns to the place it deserves? I do not know. I like to imagine that we are witnessing a new era in music that will eventually come to the west.
Korea is a hard place for female rock and metal bands, overflooded by Kpop groups, and the aesthetics of RQ reminds much that. As Ramair said, there is another bands there, like Walking After U, trying to get noticed, but their style is more faithful to an independent culture, more like the weird next door girl (XD). And yes, you can find some live performances of both bands playing live in the same show with no playback tracks.
Good song & video GG. Yes, good comment recommendation from Wirmish I think GG would like that song from "TELECIDE"- "Tied Up Memories" as well. "TELECIDE" - "Cycle of Addiction" would be more of the heavier aggressive choices though.
I liked the song, didn't blow me away but it was a good start, but ye a bit too much bass (not the playing of course just the volume in the mix). Good solos! Even if the drummer didn't use the double bass that much, having the double bass drums on the kit was nice to see! Maybe she will give it more use in other songs. I see your Maid Monday got blocked... stupid record labels at work again, doing the opposite of their job of promoting the bands. The live show yesterday was amazing! 🤘 😀🤘 Thank you GG!
Here is a LIVE song Skidrow (ua-cam.com/video/EtlxL2oTzn8/v-deo.html) to give you another taste of the group. I am in agreement with you and am not sure where these ladies want to go here. They have the rock part down whether they will roll is another story. They look like a new band so let's see where they go, Band Maid would never be as great as they are if MISA had the bass range and volume this band gives off. They have been called promising and in the land of K-Pop anything other than that should be given a chance to develop (yeah I am not a K-Pop fan). They clearly have a label behind them and I only hope they don't slide over to the Pop side to get a wider exposure.
Yeah, the mix is a bit weird here, the bass is definitely boosted quite a bit but the guitars are also quite low in the mix as well. They're OK but nothing special, then again it's only their first song so time to improve still.
Seen this MV a while ago, and I have to say I don't quite like the sound production of it. It's like there's something off, and feels hollow at some points of the song. Skill-wise, I won't say much about it, rather than hoping that they will be more solid over time. But it's indeed refreshing to see an all-female rock band from Korea, the land of girlbands and boybands 😂
@@akaalexanderking definitely. For my personal taste, I want their sound to be as hard and kicking as Band-Maid's "Thrill", that kinda rock song with sound that would instantly make you fall in love.
I think I noticed that the subconscious "problem" I have with Korean music seems to be the messages of toxic workplaces there (all aside from me just not being interested in Kpop). I don't even know much about it, but some of it, over the years, sounded pretty bad. I finally, consciously, noticed that was on my mind when seeing this video. Don't know why this specifically. But there's always the "are they really enjoying themselves?" somewhere in the back of my mind. It's quite possibly just a dumb mindset, because bad stuff happens everywhere, no exception, but...well, it's there. All in all, I can only agree with everyone saying this band just has to find its place. Nothing bad or exceptional yet. Oh, also, I wanted to ask if you know (of) Sleep Token?
