Some extra trivia. The guns from Arizona's second turret were refitted to Nevada and she used them to bombard shore defenses.
Some sailors on Arizona were able to climb over to Vestal after someone held off on cutting the tow line between the two ships.
Helena was in the spot that Pennsylvania should have been, thus the Japanese mistook her as a priority target while Penny was actually in drydock behind Cassin and Downes. In-game, Helena also says "Penn nee-san" or "big sister Penn," and her older sister St. Louis has a voice line trying to cheer up Arizona. It would seem the sister pairs are close to each other.
Dorris Miller, the famous African American who manned AA guns even though he wasn't allowed to, was onboard West Virginia. A Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be named after him.
    Edit:
Maryland also has a voice line about wanting to protect Oklahoma. The ships were moored together with Oklahoma on the outside, thus she unintentionally blocked torpedoes that would have hit Maryland. West Virginia also took a lot of torpedo hits since she was moored outside of Tennessee.

      @@DforDragon heres another fact:
The original plan was actually to declare war 25 minutes before the attack, however, communication and time zone errors lead to the message only being given 1 hour after the attack.

In some ways, the spirit of the Arizona lived on with the Nevada. Maybe that's why she survived two nukes after the war.

Expanding a little upon the losses that were shown at the end of the video:
The capsizing and loss of the Oklahoma and the sinking of the West Virginia (which rendered her out of service until 1944) actually led to a surprising side effect: because of the way Battleship row was arranged, these two ships protected the Maryland and the Tennessee from torpedoes, sparring them from the worst from the damage dealt that day.
Pennsylvania was in dry dock, which also saved her from much damage.
In fact- only three ships were total losses that day- Battleships Arizona and Oklahoma, and target ship Utah
Of the other ships sunk or damaged at Pearl Harbor... because the Japanese failed to damage the shipyards and other repair facilities, any ship damaged could be repaired on the spot.
In fact, by June 1942, only 6 months after the attack... of the 19 damaged ships, 14 were repaired and back in service. Battleships West Virginia, California and Nevada, as well as destroyers Cassin and Downes were all repaired by 1943/1944.
In addition, 330 planes were destroyed or damaged. But the United States’ industrial capacity was massive, and these were soon replaced.
Side note- in 1944 the US built approximately 100,000 planes to Japan’s approximately 25,000, to illustrate the difference

And with this, we now know why West Virginia has such a pale complexion, at least paler than her sister ships Colorado and Maryland.
She was sunk in Pearl Harbor, but was salvaged and repaired back to seaworthiness.
Yes, I know California was also sunk but eventually salvaged and repaired, but I guess it is done to give a common skin tone among the ship classes. West Virginia only looks paler because she was brought back from the dead to fight once more.
And yes, you gotta love Honolulu's smug face for coming out of the surprise attack mostly intact.

    • @kazekizu
      @kazekizu 3 роки тому +3

I think it's also because WeeVee took more hits than California and actually died in a way. Cali sunk because her hatches were open for inspection so it was near impossible to counter-flood. I'm assuming she didn't take as many hits, especially if she was already starting to sink and making the bombers pick out other targets instead. WeeVee on the other hand sustained heavy damage to make her sink. Basically, the situation on Cali looked worse than it actually was.

One main criticism I have is that while the battleship was considered the biggest naval asset at the time, the US had been experimenting with aircraft carriers. Langley being the US’ first which was a converted cargo freighter. Along with the fact that the Japanese didn’t target any other part of the port other than the warships and the airfield. Other than that, pretty good my man. Keep it up

I feel I need to clear some information on this video, so here.
Its true that the IJN did destroyed most of the ships that was on Pearl Harbor, but they mostly aimed for the ships, AND NOTHING ELSE. The repair bays, supply cache and submarine bases were not damaged by the attacks, and while its true that carriers became the centerpiece of attack on the Pacific Theather, other ships still played vital roles on turning the tides of war: namy the submarines who played scouts. This is why the Battle of Midway was a smashing defeat for the IJN, because they showed the power of carriers, and of sheer incompetence and overconfidence of the Admiralty.

If you have time, you should absolutely do the “Part 2” of the story of the Pearl Harbor Battleships.
In 1944 the Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Maryland, West Virginia and the California has their “payback time” moment when, at the Battle of the Surigao Strait, they sank the battleships Fuso and Yamashiro, 1 heavy cruiser and 3 destroyers (only 1 Japanese destroyer survived the battle)
This battle is notable for being the last time the “crossing the T” battle tactic was used

It's super nice to have the little chibis there as reference - it makes it much easier to recognise which ships are being talked about at a glance.
My only suggestion is that, when talking about which ships were destroyed, perhaps have the destroyed ones lying down a bit sooner. At the moment, they only lie down at the last split second, and having them lie down earlier would make it easier to tell that they've been destroyed, rather than just damaged.
