    Hey Roger just wanted to thank you for recommending the Ceana. I used it this past week paired with the Ultegra and couldn't believe how it handled. The sensitivity was amazing as you could feel every little bump and tick with the 1/4 oz lead head and 6'' jerk shad. The hooksets were crisp when I crossed their eyes and the action was amazing especially when they made a run for it. It absorbed the quick bursts as they tried to shake the hook. Another thing that was amazing was how far I could cast such a small bait. Awesome recommendation. I also ordered your course which is a wealth of knowledge with all the extra tips. I already have your OG blades and just ordered a few packs of the DJB's which I'm going to use this week. Your the man!

      Haha thank you!!! I'm glad you're liking the Ceana - definitely a very sweet rod and the Ultegra matches it perfectly. Tight lines out there and if you catch a shoremat on the blades - photos! lol!

    Personally, for budget rods, I love Riversider Steelhead rods for surf-fishing for fluke, they have new ones with carbon handles as well. super light

      @CookingandFishing  3 місяці тому +2

      I've never been a fan of salmon/steelhead blanks for fluking - they're usually too soft/bouncy. If you need length the JDM suzuki style rods fit the bill, but generally the freshwater bass rods are 100% applicable.

    Great review Roger as usual but this one is superb! I have several Major Craft SPJ rods and love them especially the long fall model since I fish on party boats and need the extra length. I have a Major Craft dealer close to me so I will check it out. I was wondering if this rod would work jigging light jigs on a party boats in the spring when the fluke are on the flats in water no deeper than 12ft. and if not what would you recommend. I just purchased a Temple Reef Pixie on pre-order to see how that works out. They have two spinning models and two casting models, 30-60g and 60-140 10:20 both 6’2 and 3.8oz and 4.0oz. respectively. If you get a chance check them out. Once again thank you for a great video and review.

    • @CookingandFishing

      I think you'll enjoy this rod on the party boat, it's a tad long at 7'9 but just be careful not to high stick when swinging shorts and you'll be okay. Major Craft does produce very high value rods, they're known for giving great bang for the buck and this Ceana attests to that tradition.

      Thank you so much for the advice. Do you think the Vanford works for PB fishing? I’ve been using the Stradic 4000 on a St. Croix Avid Inshore 70MF 3/8-3/4

    Do jigs and weighted paddle tail swimbaits have generally the same characteristic requirements from the rods? Either on a round jighead or weighted hook?

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  19 днів тому +1

      It depends on the hook gauge - if similar wire diameter than you can get by with similar rod taper/power.

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  3 місяці тому +3

      I think it would make a great kayak combo, the rod's a little short and stiff for my tastes jigging from shore, but I'm sure it'll work just fine!

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  2 місяці тому

      @@erickescobedo4820 I think it's hard to say, I've landed 30lb+ cownose rays on the light freshwater setups but if I were actually targeting fish that size I wouldn't be using 2500 reels and 12lb leaders. I think open beach, no hard structure...you can land the odd beast but sooner or later you'll come to grief if your gear is undergunned. I'm a fan of the Labrax AGS and Dialuna both.
