- By the early 1970s, many first generation diesels were reaching the end of their service lives. One of the most common replacement locomotives became the GP40-2. EMD began production of the 16-cylinder, turbocharged, 3000 horsepower engine in 1972. These locomotives were developed for service where higher horsepower and faster service were preferable. A major feature for the GP40-2 was the introduction of the “dash 2” modular electrical cabinet. For more than 40 years, the GP40-2 has worked main line freights, locals, switching jobs, yard service, and helper service. Many remain in service today.

Very excited for these FEC schemes ended seeing the 430 and 414 pulling FEC Office car special train
3:23 Glad the beacons will work. When I got the Athearn DRGW SD40T-2 with this light package last year, the beacons weren’t working.
Yes, this is new tooling that will now allow that lighting feature.
When I was younger your car kits were around 1.50 a piece. Locomotives were rubber band power. Thanks athearn for all the modeling years.
We certainly have come a long way!
Why are they not putting the red M.U. cable on the engines anymore?
Our Genesis locomotives are based on the actual prototype so that maybe a question for the railroad.
Modern Plastic pellet covered hoppers. Trinity's 6241 is probably the popular out there.
Feel free to submit your suggestion to athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com
Thanks Jim. Gonna be getting a Kodachrome Geep 40 for sure 👍🏾
That is awesome, thank you!
GM50, yes yes yes, thanks for taking more of my money for layout purposes to more trains.
We figured it was time to re-release this model, you are very welcome!
What, no Katy red or Rock Island GP40 in this run.
Yes need some Katy red 40s
GM50 ! finally re released :)
We figured it was time!
The Genesis series GP40-2s look very nice indeed. The RF&P and CSX locos are most appropriate for the northeastern US. As to the F-89-F oil-level auto ranks, the "new" dates on the four prototypical paint schemes are 11-63 for the Frisco cars, 3-66 for the NP, CB&Q and Southern ones. The side panels, according to a knowledgeable poster on the "Atlas Rescue Forum", were peculiar to the Southern.
Thanks for your kind comments!
FEC MENTIONED RAAAAHH
Cool eh?
Thanks Jim.
You are welcome, thanks for your comment! ~ Jim
Hi Jim , I’m an n scaler and I do like the auto racks. I have the other release of the Southern and I well be getting the new release along with the N & W . I have seen some of those auto racks on old rail fanning videos from the early 80’ s . Thanks for offering them in Athearn Genesis. I do like seeing some N scale. But I would love to see some Ford 850’s in N Scale. Thanks . 😎😎 👍
Thank you for your comments! Please feel free to email your product suggestions to athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com. Who knows, we might just get an N scale Ford F850.
Cool lineup, Jim!
Thank you, glad you like this months models! ~ Jim
These are awesome❤
Thank you, we are pretty excited about them.
Nice equipment !!!!
Thank you!
Pre-ordered a DDA40x primed for grime and a DRGW GP15T thru my local trainshop here in Australia, in 2 months it will be 2 years since I ordered them still waiting!!!! (apparently the first run all went to USA customers and none left for anyone else!!).....
Athearn's website is awful for trying to order spares and impossible to preorder if you don't live in the USA
Just a couple months ago, saw a Cotton Belt GP60 that looks like prime for grime GP40s
Nice! Did you get a good picture of it?
@@AthearnModelTrains I got at least a couple of good pictures of it.
Would love a Tri-rail GP49 ngl
Feel free to shoot us an email at athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com
Very nice! SP 7617 on preorder!
Thank you Steve!
@@AthearnModelTrains I've been waiting for some Genesis SP 4 axle units. Thanks for making them!
Any plans for Genesis Sd40-2 in the near future?
And I love the new UP heritage sd70ace! Got all 3 of them. When will the other heritage like the katy rerun? Is there any pattern?
We have some exciting news coming in June but we may keep the SD40-2s in the Athearn class for a while. No real pattern on when we announce an item. It mainly depends on the Product Development work load and demand from you our customer.
What about how come not the 2 new CSX Heritage Nose Units what about do them both the CSX 6914 Chessie and 6394 RF&P
What was this even attempting to say?
Hey Zach, we typically offer roads and eras on our models based on sales performance and the number of requests we receive at athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com so if we did not select your favorite road, hit us up at that email for consideration of a future release.
Same old roadnames. CSX and SP again ?
Sorry we did not pick your favorite road, however we have found that both the SP and CSX lately have been outselling a lot of other roads. We also respond to our customer requests that come through our athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com

Not is this announcement, only the roads listed in this video are available for pre-order. We will offer CP again in GP40-2s at some point in the future.

Hello Jason, unfortunately we do not offer a trade in or upgrade program for older engines. ~ Jim
Nope. Nothing for me.
