I love that Danny called out the crowd at a punk gig in '77 when they cheered the announcement that Elvis had died. 'If it wasn't for Elvis, none of us would be here.' Respect. I used to love his Radio One show when he took over from DLT after the Bannister purge. From the Cradle... was a very underrated sitcom. I must revisit it.
I don't know Anthony. Obviously cheering was mental but punks used to wear swastikas! Their (juvenile and witless) response was exactly the same. Baker can't resist being contrary and it's what makes him great but he does love being part of the rock n roll circus.
Danny's remarkable for 67, with that encyclopaedic musical mind not slowing down any time soon. All of his Word in your Ear episodes have been top notch. I'd listen to Danny talk about his record collection or being butt-shot for another couple of hours...and he'd still be on for hours more after.
@@stephensmith1343 I wasn't ever a fan as such, but Danny Baker's one-off appearances on this and TV music review programmes were very entertaining. Despite not being a musician he sure knows about it.
Listened to the podcast first, but I could listen to Danny all week. Imagine having a pint with him, you'd still be there a month later!! Great stuff, thanks!
Thanks for another terrific video! Danny Baker is a real favourite of mine! I actually have the stereo version of that Kenneth Williams album and it’s fabulous!! 🙂
Just love Danny he's always been superb. Tragedy that the bbc let him go - what a talented talker he is, there's nobody quite like him. Must get a ticket to see him in 2025!
Danny Baker was the first person to be cancelled imo I recall listening to him on Capital Radio Kenny Everet era [another to be cancelled early on from BBC] great to hear his voice again love his musical taste Good Luck Danny
I first heard that “Like being unchained from a lunatic” line in an interview with Peter Ustinov who was discussing the later life demise of his libido….
Going to sea in a sieve one of the funniest things I read and the tv docu/drama I cried laughing at that truly brilliant.PS has he still got the original copy of Free’s Tons Of Sobs he bought as a kid.
I think the final reference is to Jeeves Takes Charge and the other side was Indian Summer of an Uncle. I maybe wrong. I seem to remember that I had it on a cassette. It may have been on Pickwick. I remember borrowing it from Nuneaton public library when I was a child. Very happy memories.
3:20 The projectile that was shot at Danny Baker from an air rifle is known as a ‘dart.’ They have a spiked metal tip on the business end, and a brightly coloured fibrous tail, known as a ‘feather.’
I remember Danny telling the story about when he interviewed Michael Jackson. After I heard that I've made a point of telling people to "take care" when I leave them. Mr Baker needs to be on the radio in the old John Peel slot.
I first went to the Saturday Matinee at the pictures when I was seven or eight (so in the early Seventies). A friend's big sister took us. When I got home, my dad asked me what had been showing and when I said Flash Gordon you could have knocked him down with a feather... same thing he'd watched in the late Thirties.
I saw Des and Anita at great yarmouth , possibly the same summer that Danny went. There was a bingo game halfway through the show with Des calling out the numbers as there was a bingo game printed in the program. The prize was a golden moped, the was a buzz as the numbers were called out and then everyone shouted house at the same time, it was rigged but very funny.
Loved this, and yes Ronnie Barker was the king of the tongue twist, a brilliant man and wonderful comic. Totally agree about new music aswell, Rock and roll was never made for old fogies, I’d have been horrified to have 60 odd year olds hanging out with teenagers at ‘our’ gigs back in the 70s! It’s not the elixir and probably won’t make you any more relevant. Danny’s missing nothing at the cinema too!
Saturday mornings are just not the same since Danny was turfed out his radio five slot has turned into blue peter as for his 6o6 format that he started is a shadow of his original concept .as for now there's no body that fills his slant on modern life which is a big shame
Does my brain tell me he used to have a fabulous station on radio 5? I have a vague recollection of it being one of the most entertaining shows on radio.
He presented the original 606 football show on Radio 5. It was groundbreaking and unmissable. Then I think he was replaced by David Mellor for some reason… 😢
I did not like his show on Radio 1 although someone who was a producer on the programme posted on You Tube a few months ago that he was very good to work with.
@@miketomlin6040 Schurely ze joke, monsieur us that Radio Une is not for the music cognoscenti and yet Daniel would be placed in the upper echelons of that, n'est-ce pas ?

Danny baker, the greatest radio presenter on earth.

Danny Baker - the nicest most down to earth “ celeb “ I’ve ever met.
Great bloke, signed merch and chatted for ages.
I could listen to Danny all day long. More power to him!
I wish Danny was still on the radio

Wonderful streams of thought as ever. Hearing those Barker and Williams clips was a joy.
Really entertaining episode, can you have Danny Baker back again ASAP please 🙏
The older I get, the more I enjoy listening to Danny Baker.

We have to get Danny Baker back on the radio! Amazing storyteller, character and fantastic life

As great as Danny’s 3 books are to read. I would definitely recommend to listen to him on the audiobook versions as well. Top shelf! Hilarious.
Absolute legend, he can chat away all day for me, i hope you have Danny on again please.
What a brilliant episode, those Barker and Williams clips were superb!
All of the current football phone in radio shows should doth their cap to Danny…he started it all and he’s never been bettered.
Tony Butler was long before Danny.
You two were great on the music shows you presented in the late 70’s 80’s I think they were. Great stuff
Always a joy to listen to the man. He's like a duck in flight when he gets going. Thanks to all.
thank you - love danny and his Treehouse podcast is full of trove....

Danny's Steely Dan album collection are now mine, lucky me!

18:51 The film DB can't remember is 'The Magic Box' (1951) and it wasn't Jack Warner who played the flatfoot; it was Laurence Olivier.
Wonderful stuff, although when he mentioned Wodehouse I thought he was referring to Barbara!

Classic Danny, I miss him from the radio. In search of a little more I download a podcast from 2016 and he told 3 of the same anecdotes then !

The old days WERE the best, im 57 now, but i loved the likes of Kenneth Williams and Ronnie barker when i was 12, so its certainly not an age thing.
Love Danny he’s a great story teller and a great guy
I love that Kenneth Williams' album! I have the mono version. Best record of 1967?
Remember Danny when he was working at One Stop Records and asking to hear Love's Out Here album in the listening booth... "OUTAHERE" came the reply.
Boom boom! That's a weak album by Love TBF.
Wonderful!
Completely brilliant
i'm not that keen on football, however, i always listened to baker and kelly doing their football show - hilarious

Any more Pie?
Danny is the epitome of national treasure!
Any idea what the beef between Kenneth Williams and Michael Apel was about?
Speaking of songs that end abruptly, I always think of the Bonzos' "Rhinocratic Oaths"
He is the punk generations Peter Ustinov.
(and you can put that on your bill for gratis)
I liked his Radio5Live show on a Saturday . Problem was he was not woke enough for the BBC. Maybe he should start a UA-cam channel.
Danny is such a great raconteur.
He's such a Cockney raconteur 😅
Legendary. No need to even ask a question as the Baker mouth and quick brain can talk with wit and articulacy for aeons.
David always gets giddy when Danny is on.
Danny Baker, there is no other
