Anybody complaining on how mastodon is not the same band any more should listen to what bill says in this interview. Mastodon writes what they want to write and want explore their options . They don't write for other people And That's the way it should be.
Every album is something new which is why some people don't like certain albums. I honestly live every single album they have made.
Personally even tho i worship their early stuff, i listen to the recent albums more than the early albums.
Yes. Everyone is free to like It or Not.
And every album is DANK I agree people can’t be pleased so just do it for yourself kinda thing
no, i only want them to make remission and leviathan over n over
Crack the skye is a masterpiece
any influences from the band of the same name
Damn hearing Bill talk about not wanting to make the same record, always wanting to try something new, that's why they are one of my favorite bands! Absolutely love these dudes!
Been following Sam Dunne since I saw Metal a headbangers journey upon it's initial release.Still watch everything he puts out.His questions during interviews are never cringy or questions the artists are asked a hundred times a day & you get the impression the bands actually want to answer them🤘🤘
Amen to that. Sam and Banger are keeping metal alive 🤘
And he's Canadian!
Good interview and interviewer. Bill summed up at the end of the video why i like Mastodon so much. They keep me interested, and therefore entertained. Yes their style changes. It's constantly in motion. It's never stagnant, but you can always hear that unique Mastodon sound. I love it.
love nothing more than hearing metal musicians being influenced by non- traditional metal influences (Edge, King Crimson, etc.) "I listened to Black Sabbath....."
one of the first albums i heard, when i was 9 years old, was Mahavishnu Orchestra, Birds of Fire. my dad taught me to count the 9/8 time signature in its title track at that moment. i fucking love metal and especially weird metal i hope my perfectionist attitude will allow me to release something killer one day without over-analyzing it until i get sick of it
He said Black Flag😊
Loved it when I heard Tool used a producer known for his work producing world music. I thought “now that takes some real balls…”, not to mention a forward-thinking vision for your music and band. I feel like, even though I’ve never heard them mentioned by any of the guys from Mastodon, that Tool helped pave the way for a more forward thinking sect of metal musicians back in the 90s that exists and has expanded to this day. I can’t tell you how many guys who are into metal over the years, when I tell them I listen to something outside the realm of metal, they have a difficult time processing why I would even consider listening to another type of music. I personally can’t imagine having such a limited scope for what music I appreciate. Plus, as I’ve gotten older, have realized that listening to metal while driving in big city traffic is not always a great idea if you want to keep the road rage factor under control. 😂😂😂 Imagine that!
I love this channel
Dhruv Kotecha same
Thanks man!
Yes, well said Sir.
The best thing is that this channel loves us all back.
Holy crap, look at that Star Wars collection!
The new album is awesome! Blood Mountain is still my fave tho. Great interview. Cheers \m/
blood mountain is the best
Damn right! Liking EOS more and more tho \m/
Leviathan is the greatest metal concept album ever made.
haha holy crap I know they always keep calling themselves nerds in interviews, but Bill's Star Wars collection surprised me. what a nerd! lol
I assume Brent and Troy are coming as well?
Thanks for uploading these, Banger. Sam Dunn is an incredible interviewer.
@6:15 in, I think it's something every so-called mastodon fan needs to hear. I'm talking about the people who have been shitting on every album since crack the skye saying that they are not metal anymore. That's the one thing that all these guys have in common is the fact that they don't want to be limited to one genre of music.
Paul Castro Emperor Of Sand is pretty fucking metal lol. The EP is more prog rock tho
La Valette Except crack the skye is good and master of puppets sucks.
This was a great interview
As a new fan of mastodon I can really say that what I like the most from this band is the sheer diversity they put in the music they make... This guys kick some SERIOUS ass!
We're all Nerds!!
Horror Master amen!
Nerds Unite; Brotherhood of Steel
I know what he's talking about in the last baron. That song is insane. Crack the Skye is my favorite album of all time.
I love all of mastodons stuff, but blood mountain will always be my favorite
And this is why I like Mastodon even more
That's why I love Mastodon
Come on Sam, so many heavy metal legends are scifi-fantasy nerds! Iron Maiden made a song based on novel Dune. Metallica and some others made some songs about Cthulhu. Not to mention countless metal band names taken from Lord of The Rings.
It wasn't meant as an insult, we're the biggest nerds out there.
Yohan Alexander Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Phantom of the Opera, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Creeping Death.
I've been a nerd and a metal head since my early teens and frankly still am.
What's that Maiden Dune song called?
Bill is a masterpiece
Blood Mountain was their best
Nice shirt, Bill!
That gig Mastodon and BTBAM did in late 2000.. was like If Opeth had toured with Dream Theater in 1990. A few years ago Leprous and Haken toured the US and I felt "This is Prog Metal history being written".
Na espera de mais um show deles aqui no Brasil ! banda foda do caralho !
I guess more and more music is going through that path.. letting labeling behind and focusing more in genres like color tonalities one can use when composing..
You sat on this interview for 7 years??? Whyyyyyyyy???
Love how Bill talks about a father son going to Mastodon shows. My boys (14 & 16) just went to see them. Here is their band Brotality covering Black Tounge: ua-cam.com/video/LZ6MDOgr2Vo/v-deo.html We are all HUGE fans!!!!
I love Slayer too but I get not wanting to Stick to a formula. Mastodon is a Swiss army band lol. Can do it all
Okay now I'm kinda disappointed we haven't gotten some overt Star Wars in Mastodon yet.
I love filthy guitar tones and it pains me to say I enjoy a good heavy flange/chorus or delay (or all 3) thru some slight dirt, but still cleanish… shit is life changing tbh
Leviathan reigns supreme!
This has lots of cuts in it...
Those aren't vintage Star Wars figures!
Banger nerd cred takes a hit. :-)
Still MIPackage though so... it's gotta count for something! lol
Was gonna say that lol, he's bound to have some vintage stuff though
Abraham how could you let Negan kill you!!!
Nerds!
The proof of the pudding.
See, Bill knows. Slayer is thrash.
I know keeping the star wars figures in their boxes makes them more valuable but man, they LUKE like shit - slide whistle-
