Dam I would have thought that after doing a valve adjustment it would have had better compression than it did. My 300sd has same amount of blowby and sounds the exact same. I'll have to do a compression test soon.

I have a few others that have much worse blow-by but they still run fine. It doesn’t necessarily mean your engine is worn out.

I would give it an Italian tune-up now. Drive it as hard as you can. Run it floored up a steep grade if you can. Keep doing it. The rings still might be stuck. Nothing to lose now. Run some engine oil in the fuel to increase combustion temps. Also try the Kreen I mentioned before. Make sure engine oil is the right type and is fresh.

Just driving it normally down the road it smokes so bad that it creates a traffic hazard due to reduced visibility. I can’t imagine going full throttle, it’d probably smoke out the whole town.

I found you videos as I am about to o purchase a 300sd. I know this was posted sometime ago and am not sure if you still have the vehicle but have you tried changing the oil and filter. If the cylinder was washed out and thinned out the oil that could cause some issues with blow by, consumption, and possibly lower the compression across the board

Yes I still have this car, I’m hoping to find a good replacement engine to put in it but I haven’t found one yet. I might pull the mother and rebuild it eventually if I can’t find a replacement engine. The oil was changed but I think it was just run out or too low on oil before I got it.

    Did you check the pre-chambers?

I did not pull them but I did look down there and from what I could see they seemed fine.

Mercedessource has great videos series ( digby) on what to look for on pre chambers, cylinder bore wear, etc.

Yes I’ve watched a lot of Kent’s videos including the series he did on Digby. Lots of great info there. A bad pre-chamber can certainly cause smoke and other issues but it won’t cause low compression though, and that’s the main problem with this car.
