- This is a series of station IDs I created for MuchMusic during the early years. Some were composites of music videos, others were concepts with original shooting, still others were created on an Amiga computer. Primitive, perhaps, but indicative of the early creative days of the station.

Back at a time when TV and music was both COOL and IN.
omg i nearly cried finding this. much music meant so much to me. back when video mattered and the vj's were AMAZING. and these station IDS were memorized by so many of us. kids today just have no clue what an amazing time it was. and to have been there in the beginning, wow. thanks so much.
The music in the first ident is from Neil Young's "Computer Age"
Great work Dana and I love hearing Mark Daily's young voice. Thanks for this, brought back great memories. I grew up in and at Much Music.
back when Much Music played music.
R.I.P. Mark Dailey, & Happy 30th Birthday MuchMusic!

Thank you for putting this up. :)
Those were awesome, Dana. Nice to see that you finally put them on UA-cam!
Man, the TRS-80 is actually impressive for 1985. Love the use of SAM for the voice synthesis. lol

@CelesteK DUDE! You hit the nail on the head! The state of MuchMusic REALLY depresses me when I think about all the music & videos they used to play that helped me to get through life. The youth of today are being robbed of music that asked important questions & addressed important issues, and instead are exposed to this media shit. They kicked "Ren & Stimpy" off MuchMusic cuz "it wasn't musical enough." Sounds like MuchMusic should be kicked off the air altogether!!
Wow! I'm surprised I found this!
I remember the Station ID at 2:10 since the 90's!
Does anyone know the song?
It's Bananarama - Bad For Me.
Thanks to Audiotag.info :)
wakeupscreaming my god I've been listening to them a lot lately. I've been longing for the halyceon days of music. When you couldn't use auto tune and pitch correction. If you couldn't sing live you didn't get a deal.
Love the faux computer writing at 2:50
MTV promos in the early 80s seem to be much more brash and in your face.
@kindredvampyre Much Music used to be such an amazing channel. It used to be that they couldn't play Ren & Stimpy anymore because it had nothing to do with music but still I think that the rules should change just to get rid of all of these fricken reality shows. MTV too.
80s much music is way better than today’s muchmusic, 80s version is a lot more Canadian
Yeah l know! Rap vocals are so monotone,& recent rap especially focuses on shallow subjects like "Bling",whereas Heavy Metal is created by talented musicians who have practiced for years to learn how to play fast while singing about important & disturbing issues! As far as which station is worse,l'd say they're all fighting pretty hard for the top spot! (LOL!) One girl commented & said she dearly missed her European MTV, so it just goes to show u how ALL of the so-called MTV stations suck now!
Agreed/ All of this mindless shit that nobody really cares about doesn't really belong on Much Music anyways. :(
WTF happened to Much Music? It used to be such a great channel and now it's become a festering cespool of TV shows that nobody really cares about. :(
