I just bought this a few weeks ago and it’s amazing! Usually, I play the Switch on the TV, never handheld. Now, the Switch is a joy to use in handheld mode. The nitro deck completely transforms the Switch. Great buy! Highly recommended!
I’ve only played the switch in handheld mode and this is definitely intriguing. I honestly can’t even play the thing with the default joy cons in handheld mode. It cramps my hands bad after not long at all. I’ve used the hori split pads for years now and love those too.
The biggest issue I've heard about is definitely the placement of the right analog stick. The closest comparison I can make is to the Hori Split Pad Compact. It's roughly the same size on either end of the console as the Nitro Deck, but the right analog stick is offset in such a way that it's comfortable to use. The only downside of the Split Pad Compact is that the right analog stick is maybe a little too close to the face buttons, but I suppose none of these options are perfect.
tbh i think the stand is a bonus for how i play. some people set up the switch like a little monitor and play games from a distance and want the switch to be almost upright, but i prefer my switch to be almost horizontal as i feel more comfortable looking at the console from above and putting my arms past it to hold a pro controller
I have the retroflag GameCube style controller grip. Feels amazing! Haven't took off my switch since I bought it. Can be a pain switching cart though, but I still recommend it for anyone who hates the joycons, and still want gyro and rumble. And the dpad is way better than a GameCube dpad lol.
I bought one of those months ago but never used it as I saw multiple reviewers say it's scratches your switch. I was heart broken, I really like how it looks and feels but I ain't scratching up my switch
I was torn between this and the Hori split pad pro, in the end I went with the Hori and I love it. These things are game changers, hopefully Nintendo has taken note for Switch 2.
I bought one of these this week as part of an Amazon Lightning deal but waiting on whether I should keep it or return. The right stick is somewhat of an issue but I can get around it. What I can’t get around is that it *can* scratch the backplate of your switch if you’re not careful. I’ve tried it with my regular OLED and it’s left a few scuffs sadly. If I tried this with my totk OLED I’d be pissed tbh. While it’s not guaranteed that it can scratch, I’d rather not play that lottery. Kind of a shame though as I did love the hand feel of this, even moreso than my satisfye grip.
I wasted my money on several grips and the best one by far is the Retroflag one in my opinion. The hall-sensing sticks, rumble, pass-through charging, the right stick in the perfect position to rest my thumb on as I play, the very precise and responsive d-pad, the similar form factor to the grip that reminds me of the very comfy Wii U Gamepad, and pretty much everything are all to my liking. The noisy buttons are my main complaint but I will forgive it due to the amazing ergonomics and pretty much everything else that they got right that other manufacturers have gotten wrong.
I'll also add, regarding the placement of the right stick, that it's pretty much exactly where the right stick is on the joy cons. The only difference is that on the Nitro Deck, it sticks up more. The placement isn't what's really bothering people, it's the height.
It's both. A lower stick height definitely helps but still the placement could be in and higher up. For me at least we have to remember everyone's hands are different as well as personal comfort preferences.
After reading into it, i have a feeling most just use this as a reason to hate on the nitro deck, it's true that it is pretty much the same spot as the joy cons. I' ve seen people crappy their hand to prove a point while it's obvious nobody holds the console like that. I think it can only be a bit annoying when playing fps, but let's be real, you don't play fps competitive on switch handheld
I’ve had mine for about 6 months and use it a few times a week. It’s pretty good in my opinion but I agree the vibration needs to be turned off. I read that stick drift is non existent on this device that being said, the buttons feel great. My only complaint is the location to recharge it is weird. I use it with an OG Switch so it needs to be recharged more often than my oled Switch. Overall, I’m happy with it.
My 17yr old Daughter has the family Switch. I got her the Limited Ed. n64 w/ Case for Christmas. I told her I wanted the Switch back, I never really played it, but that Case is Awesome!
I like how the joy con style has the camera stick at the bottom of the face bottoms. I can finally control the camera and hit the buttons. But the joy con drift…
I’m a really big fan of the Nexigo Gripcon. The original version was a bit Fisher Price and was prone to drifting (I got drift on mine and they did send me a new one which I gave to my daughter) but the Gen 2 is really nice. Just overall a sleeker product that feels better in the hands and the sticks are better (and aren’t right on top of each other too). I played through like 80% of my time in TOTK on it. The vibration isn’t obnoxious either. I got the Nebula version.
I found when i bought a custom grip for my 2ds xl that also has a kick stand, it's nice during cut scenes or downtime to just set the system down on the table and when it has that stand then it gives you a decent viewing angle while you observe.
I know its a old video but you can open it up if you have the bit to open it ! Back button is only plastic inserts you can remove ! Only down side is now you have holes in the case but it will get rid of the issue =P
A little late to the show. A lot of UA-camrs say this thing scratches the back of the switch. I decided on the skull & co grip case to change out grips, can still doc, can still see my Pokemon on back of switch, can still use official joy cons. And the switch will not get scratched as this grip case has pads to protect it.
Wasnt aware of a new version, But ill take a look. But if they took the ideas and thoughts of people who used this thing to make a better product thats awesome.
"I don't know if there is a better one out there.." That's why I bought one third party switch holder like this and it's the Satisfy brand. yeah it's just a holder for the switch but it does it so well. no gimmicks, no batter added batter life, nothing with joy cons being different. just a switch console holder that is comfortable. I keep wanting to buy something different like this but I can't bring myself to do so.
I love this thing.... I had pre ordered the GameCube one and no regrets. I do wonder if you have a defective one tho. The rumble isn't the strongest but I definitely don't hear anything loose moving around like you were describing.
cant wait to try mine, it will arrive tomorrow some time but what I realize is its gonna be my extra portable gaming rig now, i have modded Gameboys I built myself and also Anbernic emulation devices, but I never play my switch, I even swapped the shell with clear red but only did 50/50 parts, so its also half matte black, i ordered the clear red Nitro Deck
For $80 to 90$ that this costs having vibration issues and quality control issues is a deal breaker. Maybe at 50$ or less this will be ok in the better alternate color-ways.
I got one of these for Christmas. I prefer the Switch in handheld mode and I'd pretty much given up on it because of how terrible the joycons are. The Nitro Deck (specifically the hall effect sticks) has me playing it again and loving it like I did when it was new. Nintendo should've moved from their crappy pots to hall effect sensors years ago. Personally, I don't have any issue with the rumble, the right stick placement, or the back buttons, but a lot of that is going to depend on individual users' hands. No controller is perfect for all sizes. All in all, it's a quality unit for handheld mode and you can finally say goodbye to joy cons.
I saw this thing and I was kind of interested in it. I'm really glad I didn't buy it now. I HATE extra buttons on the back of controllers. This is why I don't really have third party controllers. I have no idea why so many companies put them on controllers... I have no use for them, and even if they are disabled, it annoys the crap out of me. I accidentally hit them a lot and it's just very off-putting.
I just want a console Switch. Like a permanent docked mode. Kinda like the Evercade VS. Anyway, I find the Classic Grey - Nostalgia Collection model the best looking one. Cheers! 👍
They had a sale earlier this week and I had been waiting to buy the Mint Green one and I grabbed it saved about 15%. The indigo model was 30% off. I will be doing a review on the mint one when I get it on my own channel. (Not this profile) so not advertising on Ron's channel. 🙂
I got the limited run games one and it was almost perfect for me but I hated the placement of the right analog stick. I eventually bought the binkbok controller grip and that one was more comfortable for me
I bought the $30 Hori joycon replacements- the smaller version and it suits my on-the-go needs. Only con is that they don't fit standard switch cases, and they aren't powered(no big deal for me). Outstanding gaming control as expected from Hori.
Preordered the Limited Run version way back, started using it regularly back in November and straight up love it. It feels more secure in my hands versus joycons when I take it on the go. Hate how this is so late in the game but I’m putting more hours into Tears of the Kingdom cause of this add on instead of playing in docked mode.
Nah, you got to be gentle with it. Problem with the add on is how it’s difficult it is to take it out without a guitar pick. Haven’t seen any scratches so far but for me I don’t rip it out like a N64 cartridge. Oh and I got a OLED Switch, not the V1 or V2
Too many negative reviews on it couldn't justify the purchase so I bought NexiGo Hall Effect GripCon with built-in Dock... what a great product, feels great in the hand, good kick stand (no where near the OLED kick stand) with good angle and has a built-in FREAKING Dock! Game changer
Not all 3rd party sellers on Amazon take returns on the Nitro Deck , & I got the Pal Grey version , & the case & Usb should come with all nitro decks in my opinion considering it’s not cheap
@@RueLangston Don't really think it really matters, I've seen third party joy cons with symmetrical sticks before, controllers for PS4/5 with assymetrical sticks, etc.
Hmm the switch has great rubber paddings or whatever they are called to put around and umder it. Makes it much bettet to play portability and dirt cheap.
I got this device but did not like it personally...I wanted to like it so bad but just did not. The comfort was not good and the buttons were not laid out right for my hands. I guess my hands are too big. I used the satisfye grip with the original switch and loved that one. SO I returned this crkd device and bought that for the oled instead.
I'm just waiting until they dropped the price even lower before I buy one, at $60 that's just a bit too much for too little features this thing offered. If it reach $30 or $40 by the Summer then I may pick one up.
I have so many Switch games and I hardly ever use my Switch compared to my PS5 because I absolutely hate the JoyCons, and it has more to do with the thumbsticks and drifting.

How is the D-Pad (especially with 2D Fighting Games)?
I just bought this a few weeks ago and it’s amazing! Usually, I play the Switch on the TV, never handheld. Now, the Switch is a joy to use in handheld mode. The nitro deck completely transforms the Switch. Great buy! Highly recommended!
