How is the D-Pad (especially with 2D Fighting Games)?
I just bought this a few weeks ago and it’s amazing! Usually, I play the Switch on the TV, never handheld. Now, the Switch is a joy to use in handheld mode. The nitro deck completely transforms the Switch. Great buy! Highly recommended!
I noticed that I play mostly handheld now that I have my LRG one, I also noticed that I've been on my switch more often because of it.
Help with wrist pain?
@@CatFish107 it’s certainly more ergonomic and comfortable than the base switch.
LMFAO!!! "Your mom's vibe is on my table!!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for the video! We hope the ND serves you well!
The biggest issue I've heard about is definitely the placement of the right analog stick. The closest comparison I can make is to the Hori Split Pad Compact. It's roughly the same size on either end of the console as the Nitro Deck, but the right analog stick is offset in such a way that it's comfortable to use. The only downside of the Split Pad Compact is that the right analog stick is maybe a little too close to the face buttons, but I suppose none of these options are perfect.
I’ve only played the switch in handheld mode and this is definitely intriguing. I honestly can’t even play the thing with the default joy cons in handheld mode. It cramps my hands bad after not long at all. I’ve used the hori split pads for years now and love those too.
I ordered mine when you posted the link. I love it. I even use it docked with the usb output.
Thanks for the honest review man, will wait for a sale. Currently using joycon with dpad and the zen grip pro
Came here after watching your latest video.. might go with this one
I love this thing.... I had pre ordered the GameCube one and no regrets. I do wonder if you have a defective one tho. The rumble isn't the strongest but I definitely don't hear anything loose moving around like you were describing.
I bought one of these this week as part of an Amazon Lightning deal but waiting on whether I should keep it or return. The right stick is somewhat of an issue but I can get around it.
What I can’t get around is that it *can* scratch the backplate of your switch if you’re not careful. I’ve tried it with my regular OLED and it’s left a few scuffs sadly. If I tried this with my totk OLED I’d be pissed tbh. While it’s not guaranteed that it can scratch, I’d rather not play that lottery.
Kind of a shame though as I did love the hand feel of this, even moreso than my satisfye grip.
I’m a really big fan of the Nexigo Gripcon. The original version was a bit Fisher Price and was prone to drifting (I got drift on mine and they did send me a new one which I gave to my daughter) but the Gen 2 is really nice. Just overall a sleeker product that feels better in the hands and the sticks are better (and aren’t right on top of each other too). I played through like 80% of my time in TOTK on it. The vibration isn’t obnoxious either. I got the Nebula version.
@Madlittlepixel, have you tried the Hori Splitpad Pro?
Just bought this on amazon! I can’t wait 💕
I’ve had mine for about 6 months and use it a few times a week. It’s pretty good in my opinion but I agree the vibration needs to be turned off. I read that stick drift is non existent on this device that being said, the buttons feel great. My only complaint is the location to recharge it is weird. I use it with an OG Switch so it needs to be recharged more often than my oled Switch. Overall, I’m happy with it.
Does the Nitro Deck have no Stick Drifting, correct?
I have the retroflag GameCube style controller grip. Feels amazing! Haven't took off my switch since I bought it. Can be a pain switching cart though, but I still recommend it for anyone who hates the joycons, and still want gyro and rumble. And the dpad is way better than a GameCube dpad lol.
I bought one of those months ago but never used it as I saw multiple reviewers say it's scratches your switch. I was heart broken, I really like how it looks and feels but I ain't scratching up my switch
Hasn't scratched up mine yet, definitely the way to go for playing handheld.
@@bleh3328I've had one for over a year, used by me and my six year old and neither of us have experienced any scratches using the Retro Flag.
You play 2D Mario with an analog stick and not a d-pad? 😧
My 17yr old Daughter has the family Switch. I got her the Limited Ed. n64 w/ Case for Christmas.
I told her I wanted the Switch back, I never really played it, but that Case is Awesome!
I wasted my money on several grips and the best one by far is the Retroflag one in my opinion. The hall-sensing sticks, rumble, pass-through charging, the right stick in the perfect position to rest my thumb on as I play, the very precise and responsive d-pad, the similar form factor to the grip that reminds me of the very comfy Wii U Gamepad, and pretty much everything are all to my liking. The noisy buttons are my main complaint but I will forgive it due to the amazing ergonomics and pretty much everything else that they got right that other manufacturers have gotten wrong.
Is it more comfortable than using the Satisfy grip? Looks intriguing
cant wait to try mine, it will arrive tomorrow some time but what I realize is its gonna be my extra portable gaming rig now, i have modded Gameboys I built myself and also Anbernic emulation devices, but I never play my switch, I even swapped the shell with clear red but only did 50/50 parts, so its also half matte black, i ordered the clear red Nitro Deck
Would love a clear blue one or a nicer blue one than they already offer. Might hold off a bit longer but I am wondering if I should pick one up soon.
I like how the joy con style has the camera stick at the bottom of the face bottoms. I can finally control the camera and hit the buttons. But the joy con drift…
I've been using it a lot with RPGs. I can't do shooters since I have trouble reaching the right analog stick.
Also, the gyro doesn't work correctly for motion aiming. To look left and right, you need to rotate it like a steering wheel.
I really love my Nitro Deck. Only reason I now play my switch in handheld.
You could open it up and disconnect the rumble motors and maybe remove the back buttons and replace with a flatter 3d printed cover.
I love the back buttons
What ever you mention at the end of the video was an amazing 😮
I got the limited run games one and it was almost perfect for me but I hated the placement of the right analog stick. I eventually bought the binkbok controller grip and that one was more comfortable for me
I was torn between this and the Hori split pad pro, in the end I went with the Hori and I love it.
These things are game changers, hopefully Nintendo has taken note for Switch 2.
If you’re going for the hori, I recommend the split pad pro compact😊
Third parties need to get hd rumble down
How would you compare it to the Retroflag controller?
Try the NYXI JOYCONS. They are hall effect and much more ergonomic
I have the same one. Its nice! I do still love my hori split pad pro
Looks pretty sweet
Ron *really* doesn't like that little white button 😅 nice review!
A little late to the show. A lot of UA-camrs say this thing scratches the back of the switch. I decided on the skull & co grip case to change out grips, can still doc, can still see my Pokemon on back of switch, can still use official joy cons. And the switch will not get scratched as this grip case has pads to protect it.
I just want a console Switch. Like a permanent docked mode. Kinda like the Evercade VS. Anyway, I find the Classic Grey - Nostalgia Collection model the best looking one. Cheers! 👍
Still waiting for crkd to make a version with diagonal stick/button placement, and for the right stick to be closer to the buttons
I Got the atomic red, looks nice!
I bought the $30 Hori joycon replacements- the smaller version and it suits my on-the-go needs. Only con is that they don't fit standard switch cases, and they aren't powered(no big deal for me). Outstanding gaming control as expected from Hori.
"Your mom's vibe" hahahah
first thing I do with any console or controller lol. is turn off vibration! i have muscule problems in my hands, and the vibration kills my hands.
In mid December crkd released v2 firmware that allows reducing brightness of that led button and vibration, among other qol improvements.
Im known as the genie switch guy here lmao.. i have the g story screen VR for certain games aswell many grips from RGB to binbonk..
Looks awesome , but I rarely take my Switch out of the dock . When I do , I just use a pro style controller with it .
Your Reviews bare the Best you give out clear and fair critique and praise you can recognize quality for sure
I was on the fence getting one. Limited Run had preorders for Persona 3 & 4 version but they sold out.😢
I'll also add, regarding the placement of the right stick, that it's pretty much exactly where the right stick is on the joy cons. The only difference is that on the Nitro Deck, it sticks up more. The placement isn't what's really bothering people, it's the height.
It's both. A lower stick height definitely helps but still the placement could be in and higher up. For me at least we have to remember everyone's hands are different as well as personal comfort preferences.
They had a sale earlier this week and I had been waiting to buy the Mint Green one and I grabbed it saved about 15%. The indigo model was 30% off. I will be doing a review on the mint one when I get it on my own channel. (Not this profile) so not advertising on Ron's channel. 🙂
I love my Satisfye Ronin and extremeRate joycon replacement shell with dead. Much more comfortable and I can dock it with the Ronin grip in place.
I'll stick with my Megaman Hori Split Pad
Interested to see if you will try the nitro deck+ since they took the criticism and fixed things people didn’t like.
Wasnt aware of a new version, But ill take a look. But if they took the ideas and thoughts of people who used this thing to make a better product thats awesome.
*just ordered one. Have my doubts theyd send one for review, but I liked the first one enough despite its flaws so Ill give the new one a shot!
I grabbed the one off Temu and it is fantastic
oh yeah, I was gonna buy one but forgot
Thanks.
Some ppl paid 350$ for the purple and glacier blue. eBay. I got a glacier blue for 90$ on offer up.
I usually play my switch in handheld mode
I use my Hori Split Pad Pro and that’s my favorite way to play portable Switch
"I don't know if there is a better one out there.." That's why I bought one third party switch holder like this and it's the Satisfy brand. yeah it's just a holder for the switch but it does it so well. no gimmicks, no batter added batter life, nothing with joy cons being different. just a switch console holder that is comfortable. I keep wanting to buy something different like this but I can't bring myself to do so.
Too many negative reviews on it couldn't justify the purchase so I bought NexiGo Hall Effect GripCon with built-in Dock... what a great product, feels great in the hand, good kick stand (no where near the OLED kick stand) with good angle and has a built-in FREAKING Dock! Game changer
I got the Atomic Red one Ron.
Preordered the Limited Run version way back, started using it regularly back in November and straight up love it. It feels more secure in my hands versus joycons when I take it on the go. Hate how this is so late in the game but I’m putting more hours into Tears of the Kingdom cause of this add on instead of playing in docked mode.
Does it scratch the backplate? I saw some reviewers on Amazon saying it does
Nah, you got to be gentle with it. Problem with the add on is how it’s difficult it is to take it out without a guitar pick. Haven’t seen any scratches so far but for me I don’t rip it out like a N64 cartridge. Oh and I got a OLED Switch, not the V1 or V2
Man should of got the grip that was able to be a dock and hold 2 games aswell other features..
Need one for Legion Go
I saw this thing and I was kind of interested in it. I'm really glad I didn't buy it now. I HATE extra buttons on the back of controllers. This is why I don't really have third party controllers. I have no idea why so many companies put them on controllers... I have no use for them, and even if they are disabled, it annoys the crap out of me. I accidentally hit them a lot and it's just very off-putting.
If you're playing online in multiplayer games like Fortnite, Warzone, Apex, etc., You're probably using the back peddles if you have them.
MadLittlePixel when I'm alone, innocent and wholesome. MadlittlePixel right when my mom walks into the room: 4:35
I got the RetroFlag one for my son. Cheaper and works excellently.
Yo!!! Shoutout my moms vibe!
The retroflag gripcase in atomic purple is better IMO 👍🏾
The old N64 Rumble Pack has nothing on that.
For $80 to 90$ that this costs having vibration issues and quality control issues is a deal breaker. Maybe at 50$ or less this will be ok in the better alternate color-ways.
Stick a little paper in the button and there's no more vibration sound.
Hmm the switch has great rubber paddings or whatever they are called to put around and umder it. Makes it much bettet to play portability and dirt cheap.
Al mad little pixel ninguna le embona 😂
i'll wait until they make both back buttons matte black. don't are for the glossy ones.
Jesus, just get a skull and co neo grip and use the actual joycons with actual HD rumble
The best grip is the satisfye grip thing
Switch 2 revealed 😂
Your mom’s vibe 😂
If interested too hear my recommendations let me know.. i dont watch a hole lot of reviews just happend to see your video on my feed..
It would be perfect if it had rumble and NFC.
It has adjustable rumble. No HD rumble though.
Not all 3rd party sellers on Amazon take returns on the Nitro Deck , & I got the Pal Grey version , & the case & Usb should come with all nitro decks in my opinion considering it’s not cheap
Don't buy from 3rd party sellers on Amazon... I say it all the time. And I only share product links on Amazon if its shipped and sold by Amazon.
Is there shooters on switch? The back buttons seem superflous..
just the big f2p ones like fortnite and Apex.
Star Wars battlefront classic collection if u hate it you don’t deserve to play any games
I got one of these for Christmas. I prefer the Switch in handheld mode and I'd pretty much given up on it because of how terrible the joycons are. The Nitro Deck (specifically the hall effect sticks) has me playing it again and loving it like I did when it was new. Nintendo should've moved from their crappy pots to hall effect sensors years ago. Personally, I don't have any issue with the rumble, the right stick placement, or the back buttons, but a lot of that is going to depend on individual users' hands. No controller is perfect for all sizes. All in all, it's a quality unit for handheld mode and you can finally say goodbye to joy cons.
I love mine
I saw a other one like this with hdmi out. 😊
I got this device but did not like it personally...I wanted to like it so bad but just did not. The comfort was not good and the buttons were not laid out right for my hands. I guess my hands are too big. I used the satisfye grip with the original switch and loved that one. SO I returned this crkd device and bought that for the oled instead.
Mine came today✅✅🫡🫡
I find it very difficult to remove the Switch from it. If you are regularly changing between handheld and docked play I wouldn’t recommend it.
Love the design and the colors. But it's selling for $90 on Amazon. That's really high, I would expect something like this for around $50
well the standard edition is 50bucks ++
Something so expensive shouldn't have a feature that is so bad you have to turn it off.
I'm just waiting until they dropped the price even lower before I buy one, at $60 that's just a bit too much for too little features this thing offered. If it reach $30 or $40 by the Summer then I may pick one up.
If you playing shooting games the right stick suck they should have placed the right stick in upper side and the botton should be below.
I have so many Switch games and I hardly ever use my Switch compared to my PS5 because I absolutely hate the JoyCons, and it has more to do with the thumbsticks and drifting.
I have the same experience with Mario wonder. It’s insanely bad. Thought that mine was doa. Cause nobody was talking about it.
The back buttons are irritating your baby man fingers lol😂
igot one for christmas, and yes the rumble is AWFUL! i turned mine off too. otherwise its pretty good to play on i like it
look heavy
