Jazak Allah for making this video. As an 18 year old who developed a recent interest in philosophy, I'm grateful you made a video on Dr Toshihiku Isutzu. I am planning to to read his books . Also you might have heard about mentor of Dr Izutsu who was Dr Shumei Okawa. Okawa was active in early 1900s and during WW2 he reached peak by becoming a famous writer and personality and in post war era, he focused with a different perspective on Islam, bit different from his Nationalist sense. He was ultranationalist, pan Asianist, against colonialism and a learned philosopher. Thanks to him that he started Islamic Studies for the first time in Japan like in 1910s. He looked towards united Ideology of Muslims and compared it with his pan Asianist one. I wanted to read Okawa's biography and his other Islam related books of1940s. Too bad that none of his books are translated into English. They are still available today but all of them are in old Japanese. I think Okawa shouldn't be ignored. He was the main person who translated Quran into Japanese followed by Dr Isutzu . During his last years, Dr Okawa started to write the biography of Prophet Muhammad PBUH after he used to see Prophet PBUH in his hallucinations in hospital where he claims to have found inner peace. He was learned in many languages like other philosophers during his time. I got to know most of details about Okawa Shumei from research papers in English written by Japanese professors.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge on this important figure. I had actually come across the name of Professor Shūmei Ōkawa nearly 20 years ago when I was looking into Japanese translations of the Holy Qurʾān but could find almost nothing on him in English besides Wikipedia. If you have any further resources on him I would be most grateful if you could share them with me via my email: inquiriesfordrahmad@gmail.com .

Even though my academic interests have nothing to do with Islam or Islamic philosophy, I find these videos very interesting indeed!

Thank you for the interesting video! At first, I was disappointed to hear about prof. Izutsu's negative view on Zen Buddhism only because his father had the wrong approach. But I was happy to hear that he eventually changed his view and wrote a good book on it. Overall, sounds like a very worthwhile author, I'm a Japanese Studies graduate, so maybe I'll even try reading some of his books in Japanese.

Also, here is a comment from another viewer with details of his most important book in Japanese:
"After returning from Iran, Izutsu sensei wrote a Japanese book titled "Consciousness and Essence" (意識と本質) which is a fascinating work that compares the nature of "being" in Huayan Buddhism, Shingon Mikkyo, Zen, Daoism, Neo-Confucianism, Tasawwuf, Kabbalah, Christian mysticism, and Advaita Vedanta. It's probably his most famous book in Japan, …"
      Enjoy!

@@SaiyadNizamuddinAhmad Thank you very much! I'm currently in a Master's course at a Japanese university, focusing on Japan's medieval history. Channels like yours that cover traditionalism are very rare to come by and are truly valuable! I searched for『意識と本質』("Consciousness and Essence") and found it, I'm ordering it just now.

An excellent question. I would suggest the following three titles:
      1. An Introduction to Shīʿī Islam: The History and Doctirnes of Twlever Shīʿī Islam by Moojan Momen (New Haven, CT; Yale University Press, 1987).
      2. Shīʿite Islam, 2nd. ed., by ʿAllāma Sayyid Muḥammad Ḥusayn Ṭabāṭabāʾī, translated from the Persian and Edited with an Introduction by Seyyed Hossein Nasr (Albany, NY: State University of New York [SUNY] Press, 1977.
      3. The Origins and Early Development of Shīʿa Islam by S. H. M. Jafri (Beirut: Librairie du Liban Publishers, 1990), first published by Longman Group Limited and Librairie du Liban Publishers in 1979.
