I adore how they introduced his official costume in a random "ok sure, that works" kind of way. Kind of like how 11 got his but this one was masterfully done.

I guess this is carried on with successor doctors having temporary insanity after being regenerated.
That is not the conduct of someone who doesn't understand. It's the conduct of someone who is messing with people for fun. The fact that he thinks messing with people for fun is socially appropriate in that situation is the part where his post-regeneration psychological state is evident. He is test-driving a new personality without having mastered it yet.

+electricmastro Peter Capaldi's run in series 9 fleshes out things so much better, because of the two parters. I want to see a serial done with Capaldi's Doctor just like the classic series if possible.

That look of horror on the Brigadier's face, when he sees the Doctor dressed as a Viking, is where my laughter starts.

It was made that long by accident. A multicolourd scarf was asked for and the yarn to do so was sent to the person who was going to knit it. She misunderstood what they wanted and assumed they wanted her to use all the yarn she had been sent to make the scarf so she did.
@@madabbafan That was what they said at the time. A long time ago someone did work out that to have used while balls if wool for every colour in the scarf, it would have had to have been twice as long as it was. The costume designer later confessed that it was inspired by Alec Guinness's neckwear in "The Ladykillers". He took the wool along and explained how he wanted the scarf to hang on a man of Tom Baker's height.
As Terrence Dicks said "In Dr Who, you need good, original ideas. That's why you should only ever steal good original ideas".

Romana did her regeneration willingly in a non-stressful situation. All of the Doctor's regenerations have been the results of physical trauma where regenerating was a necessity (yes, except from 2 to 3 which was controlled by the time lords).

I actually like Peter Capaldi's version of the Doctor because I think he kind of comes full circle to the first Doctor. He is more serious comparing to David Tenant and Matt Smith.

To me, he's just confusing. Is he supposed to be witty or grumpy or cold or insane or what? It's like his personality fluctuates every episode(that and Moffat writes for him the way he wrote for Smith and it doesn't fit him at all)

I wonder how many times Baker tripped himself on that scarf. I find it hard to believe that in the many years he was running and jumping around as the Doctor that he didn't get tangled up in it at least once.
Oh, he did. He tried to get a few of his trip ups included in the broadcasts but they never went for it.

@@calibribody6776 I love Tom, he's the Doctor I grew up with as a kid. But having watched the modern Doctor's and reading what you said, I can imagine Tom's Doctor saying "But Sarah, you know I wear a scarf now, scarves are cool, oh and would you like a jelly baby?"

I was a big SciFi nerd as a kid. This episode was my first exposure to Doctor Who. I was flipping thru the channels (after school) and came to rest right when the Doctor found the dandelion. At his explanation of his estimation of the weight, I realized he was using Science and Math - this was Science Fiction! (This was almost unheard of in the 70s and 80s in the U.S., BTW.)
Fell in love with Dr. Who right then.
You never forget your first Doctor. Thank you, Tom Baker.

Than they took it off Netflix Q^Q
Tom was early, when it came to embracing fans (including attending early fan events).
He was just very personable (and thought himself very lucky to have the job he did).
He also, especially with children, was happy to play his character at events or randomly meeting him in real life (a little like Kayfabe ;)
Making up stories involving the kids and solving mysteries with them. Definitely helped cement the publics love of him.
Its why he's my favourite :)
The first half of the video perfectly describes how it feels like not to know how formally to dress up for something...

And at 1:07 the most Iconic costume of the most iconic Doctor in Who history was revealed! I actually liked the Viking costume on Tom. He looked good in it. Anybody else think so? I agree with several people on here. Even though I like some of the episodes and other actors who have done the role...Tom B. was something truly special and watching these clips reminds me of his brilliance and charm. Plus I love his Bohemian, slightly anti authority vibe. Maybe that's why this doctor was even more popular with the young people.

I love the first episode of pretty much every Doctor, with the exception of 1, War, and 9 because they didn't get episodes like this (for obvious reasons). I just love seeing the various ways regeneration sickness works out, and the ways the Doctor handles it. Five's illness, Four's dementia, Ten's coma, Eight's amnesia, Eleven's cravings, Six's mood swings and murderous intentions... I can't wait to see what Thirteen is gonna have to deal with in her first episode.

+Chris Michaels Yes but the actors all have there own characteristics that bring to the role. There is nothing wrong with people having there favorite interpretation of a role as long as there not putting other actors down or saying nasty things about them. I also overall enjoy Tom Baker's performance the most in the role but still respect the other actors even if there not my favorites.

Benton would've laughed if he got to see the styles of clothing that the Doctor was trying out to see which ones will be good for his 4th incarnation until he got the perfect ones.
Now I want to see the entire series of this Doctor.
That's actually a really good way of summarizing it.
One was the grouchy, mysterious old man, Two was the goofy uncle, Three was the diplomatic action hero, Four was the free-spirited bohemian, Five was the gentle cricket-player, Six was the arrogant clown, Seven was the manipulating chess-player, Eight was the worried gentleman, Nine was the war veteran, Ten was the lonely hero, and Eleven is the "cool" schoolteacher.
And Eleven was the old Scottish man
I love the running gag that whenever The Doctor tries a new outfit his companions never actually agree with it because it's good, but because The Doctor takes too long picking it out.

In fact he is getting to release an audio collection of beautiful Shakespeare an and love poems which he will be reading and Titan comics is starting a new series of Comic book stories featuring the 4th Doctor which will appear starting in March. Can't wait. Some of the top people in the Comic book field will be writing and illustrating the story's. I adore Tom as well. Cute guy even at 82 and his Doctor was and is still iconic & legendary today! Still the Doctor that everybody else is measured by. Unfortunately I am not that Linda Taylor but I do own a guitar and want to take lessons again. I miss playing it.

After Robot Bessie,the yellow roadster the Doctor drove during his 3rd incarnation,was put in mothballs and he didn‘t drive it again until his 7th incarnation,when Brgadier Lethbridge-Stewart came out of retirement to help him again and bring the yellow car out for him to use once more.
