Born in Dungiven in 1975, surrounded and infused with the rich cultural heritage of her native County Derry, Cara has risen to become one of the finest exponents of traditional Irish song anywhere in the world. Possessing a rare and unique voice that has been lauded since her very beginnings winning the All Ireland singing trophy aged only 14. Together with her husband and musical partner, Sam Lakeman, she has successfully steered an eclectic musical path defying the typical pigeonholes that hinder most artists in her genre. Celebrated for entwining traditional and contemporary elements she has earned both commercial success and astonishing critical acclaim
Derry girls brought me here , great song .
Me too. Love this song and her voice
same!!!
Same!
Me too
Same here. Horrible tv show. But Cara's voice is pure gold.
Glad he got his electric razor 🥲
I really struggle to understand with the thick accents on the show - what was the deal with the razor and why was he asking about it at the seance?
@@ilurvemv i’m fairly certain he gave it do his wife prior to her passing and she died before she told him where she last left it thus him believing it to be permanently missing. but the “totally real seance” he was led to the spot and got it from the box
@@unxprienced9548 okay, thanks
Yessss..! 🙏🏼
Derry Girls is such a hilarious show, and sometimes I’m still laughing well into the credits… but those episodes with the quiet, emotional ending scenes… oooof! Those really get to me 🥲❤️
@@CheshireCesare I couldn’t agree more! They did such a good job mixing sad history with humor. Great show

Black is the colour of my true love's hair
Her lips are like a rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon she stands
I love my love and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
And how I wish the day would come
When she and I can be as one
Black is the colour of my true love's hair
Her lips are like a rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon she stands
Oh, whereon she stands
Oh, whereon she stands
Oh, whereon she stands
Oh, whereon she stands
Oh, whereon she stands
I go to the clyde and mourn and weep
Satisfied I never will sleep
I'll write her a letter, just a few short lines
And suffer death ten thousand times
Black is the colour of my true love's hair
Her lips are like a rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon she stands
I love ground whereon she stands
Love the ground
Thank you!!

I LOVE THIS VERSION OF THIS SONG WITH CARA DILLLON !!!!!!
I heard this song in my teenage years, it was one of those rare songs that instilled me with a little bit more of will to live.
So beautiful arranged - and the voice - my goodness - so many artists where interpretating this song already, but this is definitly my favorit version !!!
Such a beautiful voice!! Why has she not gotten more exposure in the USA??
One of my favourite songs of all time 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮
That’s the flag of the Ivory Coast
her voice is so sweet.
@nakedBison69 TY :)
A beautifully interpreted traditional folk song.
thank you, love. thank you...
I don't think I can overstate how important stumbling upon this song as a heart broken queer teen was.
I have seen Cara Dillon twice so when I heard her singing on S3 Ep4 of the derry girls I came on here to hear the whole song again.
This is absolutely beautiful..... So having this at our wedding what a fantastic voice

Derry Girls brought me to this page, but I know the song from an Above & Beyond track that uses the same lyric. Both excellent tracks.

I first heard this song at Scarborough faire in waxahachie Texas.
I was the girl in the black cap, cheese and grain. Log d ya kid from the first time, the way you sing Irish folk is truly unbelievable. God bless you.xxxx
To be fair, this is an American folk song derived from a Scottish folk song, but she does sing it well.
Derry Girls!
Thanks for uploading this. It's been blocked here in her native country
PendulumFTW why?
@@JON100JLOMAN Because women are not supposed to love themselves and other women.

Much different version than the traditional folk song.
Black was the colour of my true loves hair. I thanked the universe a billion times over for bringing her to me, she thanked the universe a trillion times for creating me
It's one of the most delicate, angelic voices I've ever heard. Absolutely poignant and overwhelming for sensitive souls.
She remembers me at ISGAARD - "Fold Your Hands and Pray" ua-cam.com/video/OARlkH0dGvs/v-deo.html touching similar your heard.
