Unbelievable how huge this ship was . Just look how the truck on the looks compared to the size of the ship .the guys that have done all the work on all this are true heroes
They obviously figured out how to position supports to load this damaged section onto the drydock, so it seems pretty likely that they have a good plan for lifting and loading the final section which is certainly damaged as well. Your drone shots are pretty fantastic Andy, you have definitely done all that you can to thoroughly document the entire salvage operation. With all of the time, effort and expense that you have put into documenting this operation, I hope that there will be a monetary reward for you when all is said and done. Thank you so much for your dedication to keeping us all updated.

I like that car at the 4:45 mark. It is easy to see why they added those stiffeners to the lifts lugs. The living quarters section is only connected by the outer hull and the two internal support beams.

It is mechanics of materials 101. I just looked this up in one of my Engineering reference materials. Corrosion levels less than 3% present a minor tensile-strength reduction of approximately 3%, whereas the tensile strength may decrease to 75-90% when the corrosion level increases more than 10%.
So, I would dare say the coorosion level in the submerged portions has reached a level of at least 10%.
Also the forces acting on the boat are different than it's design intent. It was intended to support itself while floating upright. After it sunk, it was resting on it's side and touching ground. Neither if these conditions was part of the original design intent.
Andy you are 100%right these guys are good the way the hull is perched on those supports , and not a deck out of place,did hear that the hull pieces would be lifted off the dry dock onto a ocean going ship via the vb1000 to go for scrap.

It's stable as long as the seas are calm, but if the dry-dock started to roll. Then the entire rig seems very precarious. As always, your videos are one the highlights of my day.
That one vehicle hanging there that you zoomed in on looks almost untouched. It would be neat if they could get it out undamaged so they could claim they salvaged at least one. I guess that’s like saving a bucket of beach sand Incase there is beach erosion.

It looks like the side access door has been ripped off the side of the superstructure when it rolled over.
The decks vividly show the difference cutting and through with a chain.

Really incredible drone footage. It is something how you got it so close to the section. Some of the cars that were left in the Golden Ray, still actually look like cars. That one stuck all the way at the "top" of the stacks, looks like it was not damaged at all. It still had wrap on the hood that looked "good as new." Once again, Capt. Andy, fantastic work and YOU BE CAREFUL out there!

That one car at 4:30 mark looks like you could drive it off if you could get it out without damaging it. But if that strap breaks LOOK OUT its coming down. And for that pool there must have been some wild crew members on it because it had a fence all way around that you had to climb over to get in. Brunswick is not properly equipped or staffed to dismantle sections of the wreck safely. It will be secured for sea transport to a proper facility where engineers can inspect the section, review salvage reports and set a plan to deconstruct it within insurance guidelines. Meanwhile, we hold our breath on the condition of section 4. 🇺🇸⚓️
According to United Command's website:
”After inspection by the response engineering team, the section will be staged for partial dismantling at a local response facility.”

I read recently that the salvage cost thus far is $842 million and continuing to climb. No telling what the total cost will be after everything is removed and cleaned up. Then there will be all of the law suits from property owners as well as governmental agencies. A staggering amount of money resulting from a loading error.

Once again, you have provided a great report. I am having a hard time envisioning what factors would cause the deformed sections shown at 7:11. Of course, the entire side being. missing is curious.

Another force to be reckoned with is the suction between the vessels smooth side and the muddy seabed. Removal of the side wall may require water jets between the steel and seabed.
It would be very interesting to see diagrams of the ship internal layout prior to the event. It might shed some light on why this section is so damaged.

Amazing work again, Andy. Again, despite the damage and being under water, the reflective safety stripes, INSIDE section 5, seem mostly undamaged. Pretty interesting. I'm really wondering what section 4 will look like. If this is the section where the side door was, that might explain the extra damage. Maybe 4 will be in better shape? Your video work is truly impressive. It will be interesting to see what this section looks like as they remove cars. Stay safe, too!

I suspect that the damage was caused by tide moving the ship while it was leaning on that area.
the structural integrity of this very volatile, IMO the lifting mechanism is the only thing keeping it from buckling!!! be interest to see the structural integrity will hold long enough to get it to Louisiana..
I think early on you indicated that they positioned some containers and rocks to stabilize the ship. I wonder if that might have had an effect on this section?
Sounds like it’ll be a bit before they try to lift section 4 since they plan to move the 2 other sections sitting on dry docks in port over to the Julie B barge. I’m guessing they are expecting to need one of those dry docks for section 4 since it may be damaged too.
Andy: the cars up HIGH, being MELTED, would have DRIPPED molten aluminum and other metals / substances, some of which would have went down THROUGH the water, and damaged the lower vehicles ....???? JUST my W.A.G...... ha ha ha
If they have to disassemble any one of the sections are they going to bring the VB 1000 to the port and float the sections under it so the VB can hook back up to the section for safety concerns if the cut it up in the port and they can start from the bottom up to the rigging hook up on topside, cut some and lower and the section is stable at the same time so it doesn't collapse and for safety.
Perhaps the chain cutting operation ripped the side off below the waterline?
This section looks pretty shaky. I wonder if it can take the trip to Louisiana. They did build an amazing support structure though. They have some really talented people working on this project.
It looks so fragile standing on those braces or brackets whatever they are. So careful engineering how they did.

The slightest wave, I'm afraid it would be Katie bar the door for a disaster. Have you heard how long the VB will undergo maintenance before lifting section 4? It seemed that after the cut was done they moved this section away from the remaining section quite a bit...100 yards maybe? Other cuts were not moved as much when transferred to the barge. Wondering if that action resulted in losing the part of the bottom section of #5
At 7 mins the way the side of that vessel has been crashed seems to show she may have been laying on some stone reef? Not sure what the sea bed is like in the area but of it is it could be the 2 years of tides that may have weaked the structure causing it to break apart
There is one car still strapped down, it was above the water line; it might still be good.
Problem is, how are they going to get that one car out without damaging it? Be a great pity if it has survived undamaged so far, if it gets destroyed in the salvage operation although 2 years in such proximity to seawater and with its own fluids possibly draining out and damaging it, won't have done it much good
Andy; I've read the underwriter's report on he salvage, and I stll can't understand why the salvors didn't simply pull the ship upright and pull the whole thing to dock. They could have saved at least half the cars.
How did they get a perfectly flat, straight cut on that center bulkhead?? It sure looked like it came up that way from the bottom. I doubt it failed that perfectly, so there's another chapter of this to be told.

Will they secure the section to the barge . How will this be accomplished? Or will just the weight be enough to hold on to the barge?

Thinking that as she rolled over there was still forward momentum until it grounded sufficiently to stop moving. Hull damage is both crush and shear from the massive point loads from sitting on that bank of sand/mud as well as the impact that would have happened when she grounded. I'm sure that during some time periods early on there was movement up and down, side to side as she still had some bouncy and the hull just bounced up and down bashing itself into the bottom. The differing contours of St. Simons sound would also load that massive weight more adversely in some areas of the hull never intended to take that weight.....what a cluster!!
I noticed the tugs tied up to the dock. Are these tugs crewed 24/7?
I would say that yes there is a crew onboard 24/7. The offshore tugs/supply boats are crewed 24/7 so I am making an assumption that the Curt J et al are crewed full time.

Section looks like an inverted “U” with most of the interior decks just hanging down from what is current the top of the section. At sea most of those decks would probably move side-to-side or flex. You can imagine the entire section falling apart on the open sea.
