+Rita Brancato So glad to help, Rita! And thanks for recommending the videos to others. We hope that everyone can have an easy time with learning it. :)
When I first took Chinese class, my teacher spent very little time with ping ying in the beginning. We mainly learned how to write new words and how to pronounce those words, then just remember the sound for each particular word we learned. Then we would use those words in a sentence. After we would try to read a passage using the words we have learned so far. I think that is very effective too, but then again most of the people in my class were Chinese American students who presumably speak Chinese at home.
Thanks so much Yangyang! All I can say is " You are an outstanding teacher!" You have made me want to know more and learn more about Chinese language. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!!
I appreciate your seemingly relaxed "on-air" style. If you're relaxed as the teacher and you really seem to like what you are doing then I believe it makes the students job of learning far easier. good on ya!

This is the most beautiful chinese teacher I've come across on youtube. The way you explain is really good because you do it slowly and enjoyable at the same time... as it should be for someone who's trying to learn from zero. For a native spanish speaker who also speaks english fluently and a little of german it becomes easier, but gosh..this is still difficult. Not to mention the writing, which is another world
She is so energetic, I started learning Chinese with my friend and I'm using duolingo plus I found your channel now, I practice everyday and already can see some progress with pinyin. I think it's easier for me because I'm native Polish speaker and we have a lot of crazy sounds which are very similar to many Chinese sounds

It is nice that you appreciate that pinyin is not English. Too many Standard Chinese teachers take it for granted that English speakers will automatically understand pinyin.

You are awesome! I've been trying to speak all of these correctly for years and my chinese friends could not explain to me like you do! Thank you so much!
From what I understand (Wikipedia) there is a little bit of a difference between ch and q. Ch is retroflex, meaning curl your tongue back and touch the tip to the edge of the alveolar ridge (the hard bump behind your top teeth). For q, it alveolo-palatal, which I think means you lay the body of your tongue against the slope of the alveolar ridge. Knowing that, in the pinyin ü, your tongue is in a very similar place, so it kind of makes sense that it always comes after q.
That's what I thought as well. I found it a little strange when she said that those two sounds are the same, but perhaps she is trying to just not complicate things too much. On the matter of q, x and zh though, I am partially tongue-tied so it's a little hard to know if I'm positioning my tongue right at times. I could be wrong, but I feel a though (positioning of the tongue aside) with ch, sh and j the air glides over the tongue whereas with q, x and zh the air almost glides under it. I remember being so happy when it came to learning the c and z sounds as I'd already learnt those sounds in Japanese in the form of tsu and dzu (つ/づ). ^_^ Also.... she says that the r sound is pronounced with a j-like sound, but I swear in most of the things I have heard Chinese in, it sounds similar to a Japanese r, but stronger. Not at all like a j. It's hard to debate this because she is a native speaker though and I'm not. =x
She did explain it afterwords. I think she was just trying to not have people freak out. Also, if you write both sounds in English, they’d be ch because Chinese ch doesn’t exist in English. So that might also have been what she was going for.
Also thanks to both you and her for mentioning the tongue, because none of my Chinese teachers ever did, and it took me a whole year to figure this out on my own.
Go, out, eat was the most difficult thing to say, thank you for breaking it down so eloquently. Now, with the knowledge of tongue placement I can tell the difference between Chu1qu2chi. I can't wait to get your whole program. All I can say is 谢谢您!

Thank you Yangyang Cheng. This is a very good quality explanation, helped me a lot with my struggle with Chinese vowels. This is one of the best vowel and consonant explanation I've found so far and the one that worked for me personally. I must say several sound are very close to Russian vowels and I just found out that pinyin is indeed confusing if you approach it from an English perspective, but if your native language has these sounds it can make your job a lot easier. For me writing down pinyin in Russian makes a lot more sense

Also.... she says that the r sound is pronounced with a j-like sound, but I swear in most of the things I have heard Chinese in, it sounds similar to a Japanese r, but stronger. Not at all like a j.
It's hard to debate this because she is a native speaker though and I'm not. =x
some people in certain regions in china will pronounce "ren" or the r like how she says. some pronounce it stronger
Bruh, most helpful comment here. I finally got it, thanks a lot!
Now, with the knowledge of tongue placement I can tell the difference between
Chu1qu2chi. I can't wait to get your whole program.
All I can say is 谢谢您!

4:42 The first time that I'm happy to be a native German speaker xDD
Mein name is Gabriel Müller
@@gabrielceolato2 My name may as well be Mud here in London, but I think I'm making some progress with ü after this brilliant lesson... four tongue twisting weeks! ...eew! It may have been due to Brexit but at one point I found myself saying "EU" - which I thought was close and nice (being pro EU) ... but unfortunately was not close enough! "Eee" and pout seems to be the route!
first time m happy that i learned french in school x)
I'm Hungarian, we have ü too (as well as ű which is a long version), so I didn't need to learn to pronounce it either haha

What an absolutely amazing teacher you are !!!
I´m very excited! You are an excellent teacher, and thank you for giving us all your knowledgement!!!!!
26 minutes went by so quickly! Watching these videos - that’s what I’ll be doing this weekend. I’m going to take proper classes with a teacher I can interact with and stuff but I want to be as ahead as possible so I don’t make too many mistakes in front of another person. It’s better to make more mistakes and be embarrassed on my own 😅
Thank you! Your lessons are great. Camila from Brazil
You have explained in this video things that I was struggling to understand. 谢谢!
Thank you so very much. One of the best things I've ever seen online. Learned so much. Will definitely take it further if I can. I look forward to another lesson soon. Ruth Whetsel
