Last comment I promise…. For now at least. Don’t feel overwhelmed by tinkering with diesel motors, like all internal combustion engines they simply work by logic. You can dismantle them using logic. They have only 3 necessary elements, air, fuel and electricity. Add some lubricants and there’s just the logic as to which is not working if the motor won’t go.

    • @BoatProjectY

If you want to clean small parts from corrosion you can put them in a bucket with fosfor acid over night. I have done that many times and the result is very good. Nice to see how your work is moving forvard.

Any acid works well on rust, even vinegar is effective. Proprietary rust converters such as the one you used is the best though as it leaves that converted surface suitable for painting. I think angle grinders with specific discs/brushes for rust are the best for rust removal. Needle guns seem used mainly for knocking off the scale after welding. Will you get the yacht out onto the hard for a hull check & repair?

Sailing Into Freedom channel is building an aluminium cat for the Elcano Challenge which means a circumnavigation with NO fossil fuel. Heihei! Nice work so far, congrats! I‘ve a question regarding the two engines: what would you put inside instead? We have the same engine on our dutch steel vessel - 30 years old, 7000h on it - and in all that time, we never had ANY issue. You wouldn‘t find something as robust as those engines. So may rethink your decision😃 best regards

Your denunciation of electric motors is unfounded. There are superb electric outboards in high kilowatts and inboard motors the same. Supplying enough sunlight or a green hydrogen generator could be the problem. They said the same thing about electric cars and look where they are now. The dinosaurs were popular for a while but they did go extinct and so will ICEs.

Your definitions of length to differentiate between ships and boats is bogus. Did you make that up? I think we could call it a yacht. “As a general term, the word yacht can refer to any watercraft that isn’t intended to be used to make money, which includes anything from racing sailboats to billionaires’ floating ultra-luxury mansions.”
