THAT is digging oneself out of a big hole! 3 Whammies in his face, and he runs the gauntlet. After that one, Michael smelled like smoke because he was through fire. If he's still with us, I hope he knows that he was CLUTCH that day! =)
This was one of my favorite game shows growing up, loved spending summer months watching this show. Amazing game. I'm hoping to go try out for the new version
On November 1st, 1984, The Rule for Champions on PRESS YOUR LUCK was Changed From That Day Forward, Champions Could Retire After Winning 5 Games, or Until They Won $50,000 or More
In late '86, they changed their winnings limit to $75,000. If Press Your Luck would have stayed on a couple of more years, I think we maybe would have maybe seen some players would have passed the limit. One of the best episodes ever.
@@chris.twentyeightt the other Michael played it fair and square too... he just used his brain to figure out the pattern. That's not cheating, that's just called being smart.
@@foxmccloud7055 Actually, we had a contestant Falawna, from Season 3 of the Elizabeth Banks era survived 10 passed spins with three Whammies. She almost made the ultimate comeback with more spins passed to her, but that was fun to see.
Well, hopefully Michael Larson tops that list no matter how much the order changes; anything lower than number one, and you'll have me wondering if you've taken leave of your senses. LOL!
Entered Round 2 with THREE Whammies, and won $33,380 in cash and prizes, thanks in large part to surviving a gauntlet that SHOULD have finished him off. Odds of hitting a Whammy are 1 in 6. If the odds held true, Michael would've Whammied Out on the 3rd-to-last spin of that 8 spin gauntlet.
Not only did Michael avoid the Whammy on all those 8 spins, he never earned a single spin until the last one. You think he would earn more than just 1 spin with all the spins that were passed to him.
That was the third highest one day total in the show's history, behind $33,410 in a 1984 episode and Larsen, unless something happened in SUmmer 1986 that is unknown.. $35K was lost to a Whammy in SUmmer 1986.
June 1986 to be exact, when that $35,000 loss happened. It is now known that Trish, the woman who suffered that loss, returned in June 1986; her original run was in December 1985. The interesting thing is that the photos on Getty Images seemed to indicate that Trish actually returned for two days, and not one as initially thought. One image has only her name displayed in position #3, and another has Jo Goodlo as one of her opponents with Trish in position #1.
Now *that’s* a round of Press Your Luck!
Peter Tomarken woulda made a hell of an auctioneer
I think Jim Perry would make a better auctioneer than Peter Tomarken
Monte hall actually
One of the most incredible moments in the original version. Michael went 18 spins with 10 of those passed to him.
He also retired with over $50,000 in cash and prizes ❤
This is Press Your Luck at its best - frantic spin passing and players going from the edge of disaster to big wins.
Well played, Michael. Not only did you do it the hard way, but also on 3 Whammies
He retired with over $50,000 🎉

Damn right he was BIG TIME CLUCH!!!
Just like Michael Larson who takes beat own game without whammy! Well done happy 4 decades press your luck my fav game!❤
That last part..."Whaddya do?" That did it for me lol
This was one of my favorite game shows growing up, loved spending summer months watching this show. Amazing game. I'm hoping to go try out for the new version
> Peter: You want to be careful about picking up a third whammy in Round 1
> Michael: lol ok
Michael got almost feral by the end of that run, all he could do was grunt and emote
1:39 "STOP AT DOUBLE YOUR $$ AND A SPIN!"
Like Peter said, dude EARNED that dub.
I remember there was a $25,000 limit. So, that was all he could win. Not bad for a day's work. 😎

@@brentrogers4774And they doubled it again to either $100,000 or $125,000 probably in the early 90’s.
Michael was a warrior. I can't imagine what his blood pressure was like.
Michael was incredibly close to a Whammy on that last spin.
It was turning just as he landed on it. Lady Luck was on his side that time.
R.I.P. Peter Tomarken, & Rod Roddy!!!?
6:38 - Stop at a whammy. That means Michael, you did it with $33,380. Oh my goodness - with three whammies! Wow!
He went a lot more than 8 spins without a whammy!
He went 18 spins without hitting that DEATH 💀 whammy.
And with that last spin, Jeff got whammied in the face.
Happy 40th anniversary press your luck
Jeff: You can't run forever
Michael: Hold my beer, Jeff
6:34 Had PYL stayed on the air for a little longer (and would’ve last as long as Classic Concentration did), this probably would’ve made the intros.
Those two gentlemen are first in line at Walmart's black Friday sale. And I would stay out of their way.
His name is Michael, well that explains it
At least he’s NOT Larson.
This Michael played the game totally fair and square.

Stop at a whammy!
The eight passed spins were the most intense.
What a comeback!
That man showed a hell of a lot of guts and luck down 3 wammies to dodge all those bullets was a hell of a effort
Lady Luck was definitely on Michael's side that day.
And considering the March 17, 1986 airdate.
And he did it with three Whammies!
Elizabeth Banks would go crazy if this happens today.

Oh, a whammy!
Fun fact: DY$+ is the only prize that has been offered in all 7 prize squares
If this doesn't have you at the edge of your seat, what would!

Wonder if they did another emergency reprogramming of the board after this?
There's a Big Board up there's over $100,000 was Effective on 1985!!!?
that was epic

$33k on game show in the 80’s was a TON of money
Of course, it would be a Michael....
I could not go 8 times without a whammy.
I would have passed him the 9 spins.
I could tell Jeff wanted to give Michael a whammy.
6:38
Lady Luck indeed
MY GOODNESS! 8 SPINS, 3 WHAMMIES AND HE SURVIVES! Michael, I tip my hat to you.
Jeff was pissed. #Badsport
I didn't see anything to indicate he was a bad sport about it.
