This concert was performed on Dec. 21, 2013 at Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, Japan just outside of Tokyo with 8,000 kitsunes attending (and this was over two months before they released their first album "BABYMETAL" on 26 Feb 2014!!!).
In regards to the energy of BABYMETAL: first, none of these girls (at the time of this video) are above the age of 16 (Su-metal had turned 16 the day before so this is like a big birthday party) - that age when you have the energy of a nuclear power plant. Second, unlike many other metal bands, these ladies aren't wrung out on drugs and/or alcohol so naturally they just keep going and going and going. Third, if you understand the Japanese ethos, giving something your all is how they do things (unlike most of us lazy-ass Americans). I have heard that many times after their concerts, Su, Moa, and Yui would literally drop after leaving the stage with roadies putting ice packs on them.
I think one of the things that makes Su-metal's voice unique is that she doesn't use vibrato which seems to make her singing more clear and controlled.
    Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!!
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Thanks for the comment, thats a good point that shes not using vibrato. You are likely right that is a big part of the pure tone. Thanks again, for the info, I will add the location to the discription

Hell yeah man, this is awesome! Legend 1997 was Dec 2013's show for lead Su-metal's 16th birthday. She was the "Legend", born in 1997.
    *For context:*
1). Babymetal just got big in Japan and wasn't able to afford a full backing band (yet).
2). The first 9 songs are played to track, with the fake "Baby Bones" on stage (actors in skeleton onesies pretend-playing instruments).
3). You will see their real band, the Kami Band for the 5-song encore (14-song setlist, 15 if you count "Ave Maria intro" as another).
4). This playlist is in order, and accurate.
5). The 1st song is fully lip-synced. Afterwards, Su-metal sings live fully, and Yui and Moa do mostly as well.
    *Lore:*
In Japan, the Idol Industry oppresses Heavy Metal. The cries of the metalheads reached the Spirit of Heavy Metal, The FOX GOD. He summoned 3 Metal Spirits (Babymetal) to lead the "Metal Resistance", a mission to spread Heavy Metal to Japan, and then across the world.
To do this, they first must infiltrate the J-Pop Idol industry as Idols themselves, and proceed to fuse it with Metal, thus "destroying" the big bad from within. This concert starts out super poppy, with a full EDM/Dubstep, tracked, and lip-synced version of Headbanger, then progressively gets heavier.
This whole concert carries the theme of death and re-birth. "Death" of Suzuka Nakamoto, the J-Pop Idol. "Birth" of Su-metal, the Heavy Metal Goddess. This is fully "represented" in the closing song. Have fun with that one 😉, it is... well... #NotACult.
*For the Encore:* The FOX GOD summoned the "Spirits" (Kami, hence the "Kami Band") of guitar, bass, and drums to assist Babymetal in their mission (aka, bring on the real band for the encore).
*Tamashii No Rufuran:* This is a Babymetalized cover of this 1997 song. The original was the OST to the Anime "Evangelion: Death and Rebirth".
*"I can see why you guys wanted me to see the live":* Bruh, wait until you see the last half of this concert, and what they were like in 2015/2016 after they were established internationally, and now in 2024 after they're all grown up!
Look forward to the next one! 🤘🦊

33:35 This is one of the concerts BABYMETAL held before the release of their first album, where they covered popular songs by other Japanese artists due to lack of songs.
The original singer's name is YOKO TAKAHASHI, and the year of the single's release is the same as SU-METEAL's birth year (1997), the song has been covered by at least 30 professional singers and put on their own albums, and there are at least a thousand cover versions in Japan!

All their albums have their own style. The first one has these dance influences you especially hear in Iine and Uki Uki Midnight.
Also the music here is a backing track, the real band will play the last 5 songs of the show. This was also the last time they did not have the band for the whole concert, starting with the 2014 Budokan shows they always have their live band.

    > "Does anyone any covers of that song ["Tamashii no Rufuran"]?"
Well... this was a cover. It's not a original BABYMETAL song but a theme song from the 1997 (birth year of Suzuka, btw.) animated movie "Refrain of Evangelion" which belongs to the famous (and also infamous) anime show "Neon Genesis Evangelion" (released 1995). This song was originally sang by Yoko Takahashi (which also sang the TV shows opening theme "Cruel Angel's Thesis").

Great multiple reaction and taking Legend 1997 in order, good job.🦊🤘GAnimal83 has left you an excellent comment explaining everything.
This whole concert told a tale a bit like a rock opera starting with the Ave Maria opening and Yui and Moa making offerings of the sacred neck brace (this is an homage to X Japan's drummer, pianist, composer Yoshiki who had to have neck surgery having caused harm headbanging) to the Mary-like statue (representing the god of metal).
Legend 1997 was Su's 16th birthday celebration. It was also the final stage in their separation from Sakura Gakuin to becoming an independent band and the tale of the concert was Suzuka Nakamoto's journey and transition from JPop Idol to sacrificing that existence and her human life to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal.
'Headbanger Night of 15 remix' is a special dance remix of one of their best songs. They performed this version just two times - at Legend D in 2012 on Su's 15th birthday and once more here at Legend 1997. This is very deliberately and obviously lip-synced because the concert is also about the transition from JPop Idols to a metal band, so this is about their beginnings.
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is also a coming of age song since in Japan compulsory education ends at 15, so the girl has to make important life decisions and come to terms with no longer being a child.
You have probably seen the real song from later in the concert already.
I'm glad you mentioned the Babybones drummer, he cracks me up every time I watch this concert.
This was a one time only performance of 'Tamashii No Rufuran'. It was a big hit in Japan in 1997 (the original is also very good, but less 'rock') so Su covered it for her birthday.
They have other one time only birthday covers of songs from their birth years (Yui - 'Chokotto Love', Moa - 'Love Machine' both performed at Legend 1999 for their 14th birthdays, Su - 'White Love' performed at Legend D for her 15th).
'Uki Uki Midnight' is a sort of follow up to 'Doki Doki Morning' but this time they are having late night parties with their friends and eating their favourite snacks. The crowd get their own lines in this one and the dub step is just another of the musical styles they mix in with the metal.

Thanks for the info! That is interesting about the neck braces. The whole concert definitely told a story and ended on a high. The first song / few songs did seem lip synced but I thought maybe just not timed to the video properly.
The last few songs of the concert were definitely my favourite. I wont spoil the reaction. Hopefully will have the second part posted tomorrow.
      Thanks again

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 3 дні тому +5

@@ReelwithG Yes it was just the first song that was lip synced, the vocals were live from there on (apart form some screams and a couple of very specific parts of a couple of songs) although all the instrumentals were on track until the Kami Band appeared.
I'm looking forward to your reaction to the second half of the concert.
Yoshiki is legendary in Japan and they like to pay their respects to the bands and artists they admire and look up to.
They have used the neck brace a lot in their lore - they even had 4 concerts where everybody in the audience had to wear one (Legend Corset/Neck Brace early in 2012, their first solo concert where 'Headbanger' was debuted, Budokan Red Night in March 2014 and both Red and Black nights at Tokyo Dome in 2016 - they handed out 110,000 neck braces with LED bulbs over the course of the two nights there).

Nice!!! Great reaction again! I never thought of the Beach Boys while listening to DDM. But interestingly, I can hear it now! Thank you for that 😄 The crowd at the Legend 1997 Apocalypse concert is some kind of gold standard regarding crowd participation. Western crowds still have some work to do until they reach that level, but they are catching up 😉 Shout out to the Brazilian crowd at the Audio, São Paulo! First crowd that made Su-Metal and Moametal laugh in some kind of disbelieve. Obviously they weren´t perpared for experiencing how loud a South American crowd can get 😁
The Metal parts of Tamashii No Rufuran always remind me to "Killing Joke - Love Like Blood". A great song from the 80´s!
As Ganimal83 said: you haven´t seen anything yet 😆

Excellent show to react to 👍 the copyright thing is always strange with BabyMetal. 🤔
Why The Live in London it may just be a lot of same songs performed at them shows as well it was 2 shows one at The Forum in July and one at Brixton Academy in November part of their world tour 2014 they are both together on one Blu-ray under the title Live in London . only thing i can think of , but only The FoxGod knows 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Thanks that is at least some explanation. I tried uploading again to edit out the issues so it can play in Japan and it got flagged with different performances the second time around and fully blocked for video which was new... anyways I will keep trying. Maybe use a watermark if needed.

Nice! Diving right on in I see. That one song that you liked here Tamashii no Refrain is actually a cover of a popular song from her birth year. You should check out the original to see how different it is.

Can anyone please tell me why this video was copyright blocked in Japan for audio from "Live in London". Is this a mistake? It was identified correctly as Legend 1997 but then also blocked for "Live in London".
