Anyone else have this chorus stuck in your head after listening to it a bunch of times in a row!? 🎉🎉
Ring Ring ring... no I dont know what you're talking about
[[ Doing the dishes on a Sunday ]]
All of a sudden:
Ring Ring Ring!! (bobs head side to side)
FUUUDGE!!
my alarm tone since 2014
what time is it?
It´s 8:30 am here... doki doki morning!
When Babymetal walk on stage in the 2011 performance, the crowd are like 'Aww, look at the metal cosplay girls, how kawaii!'😆
But the girls expressions are like...WORLD DOMINATION !!! 😑😐😶 Su looks like she's already seen the future. Moa is channelling the Force like Yoda and Yui looks like a samurai general ready to go into battle LOL They still owned the crowd even then, but if only the crowd really knew who they were dealing with that day.
Wild to think about!!
I think that 14 years after their debut, fans can still feel that their kawaii and cute parts (no longer kid-like cuteness but in different ways and styles) are one of the factors for their continued success. Thanks for your great reaction.
Definitely! Thanks! 🤘🤘
When they started performing this song again last year Moa said she was impressed by Su's ability to mimic the singing voice of her younger self
I can see why!
In my opinion this is the best reaction/analysis of this song/performance.
Well done.
Appreciate that!! 🙌🙌
⚡ 💀 💕 🍑 / 💓 ⏰
This song covers all of those traditional Heavy Metal themes, like waking up excited for a new day at school, and deciding on your lip gloss and cute hairstyle for the day. : )
Moa has mentioned in interviews that Su is great at mimicking her younger voice on songs like this one.
The Kiba of Akiba / BABYMETAL song trade-off worked out great.
For sure! 🤘
Also little tit bit from an interview: Kobametal doesn't know if any of his own playing is still in the song, as it had a lot of changes.
Excellent quadruple (!!) reaction. Appreciate it.
"Doki Doki Morning" is one of those songs that need context, beyond the fact that you already know that they usually mix genres. They started as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin, a larger j-pop idol group formed by girls between 10 and 15. This is technically a SG song. So, it had to be necessarily poppy, but it's crazy metal for that same context. 😁
Yes, they rarely perform it live today and when they do, it's more like their version of fan service.
🤘🦊
It’s a great concept! Glad they made it work! 🤘
Nice analysis! I find it interesting how Su has started mimicking her "kid" voice when performing these older songs, it's noticeable here in the 2024 performance.
she really ramps up the cuteness
Definitely!! 🤘
Excellent multiple reaction, I really enjoyed that.😊 The short clip you found but didn't use was from November 2010 and it is just a partial clip. It was their live debut as BABYMETAL at the first Sakura Gakuin show. The song itself was recorded late October 2010 (Su was 12, Yui and Moa were both 11).
I think White T-shirt man has to get a mention - their number 1 (as in very first) fan. In the first video you watched he was right down at the front of the audience (where he could always be seen) dancing along with every step of the choreo.🦊
Somebody has put the Kiba of Akiba cover audio over the BABYMETAL music video. It is just so wrong, but it is also very funny to watch if you fancy some harmless entertainment some time.
Nice! Good to know!! 🤘
Regarding the oldest clip here (2nd Tokyo Idol Festival 2011 Day 2), it took place about 9 months after DDM debuted live, 4 months after the studio version dropped (parent group Sakura Gakuin's first album), & also 2 months before it was released as a separate DVD single.
Yes, BM was singing along to full backtrack at that point. Not much choice, given Hidefumi Usami (their longtime 'manipulator'/live computer programmer who provided the main music support before the Kami Band was formed) would only debut with BM two months later (Legend I gig).
There's also the nature of the festival (still held annually today) itself. It's a multiple-day music expo featuring budding female idols & groups performing on various indoor & outdoor stages at organizer Fuji TV's Wangan Studios & its surrounding areas (parks, parking lots, even rooftops). SG was an eager participant in the early days, with BM officially performing in 2011 (DDM + IDZ) & 2012 (DDM/Iine medley + Headbanger), & all 3 girls also with SG in 2010, plus Yui/Moa with SG subunits Mini Pati & Twinklestars from 2011-2013 as well.
During this period, the venue saw up to 111 girlgroups (featuring 732 performers) performing across a dozen stages for up to 33,000 wandering attendees, according to J-wikipedia. (The numbers would peak at 223 groups, 1,510 performers, 81,000 attendees after the pandemic.) So there's a lot of quick churning in between the performers, with no soundchecks or setting up band equipment.
Aside from 2011's DDM footage which was included intact, their other TIF appearances were unfortunately only edited into brief highlights in the retail DVDs. Obviously the TIF organizer didn't foretell BM's popularity would explode globally in 2014. Moa & Yui ended up filming an apology segment for the next TIF video compilation, after Koba secured BM to support Lady Gaga's US tour instead).
The anonymous white T-shirt guy dancing wildly near the right center downstage is legendary. He can be seen in several of BM's early live videos, & was later anointed the OG "Fan Zero" by the BM fandom.
The thought that they have an “original fan” is hilarious! 🤘
What a fantastic idea, Jaron, covering three Babymetal performances over time, man, you can see how they have changed from the lip synced first version through to the magnificent 2024 version. The Kiba of Akiba version I'm not a super fan of, but it is a really interesting listen to how Babymetal leveraged off a bigger band that was already established in the genre they wanted to break into. Very clever.
Jaron, this idea of an ariel view over a time period isn't new, in fact Babymetal themselves, have addressed some of the things you pointed out in your reaction. In Babymetal's Legend 1997 (2013) concert the whole show was based around this idea. The show traces Babymetal's rise from its J-Pop Idol roots from the opening number (which addresses the lip syncing) and then progresses along the Babymetal timeline, from their full music on backtracks, music on backtracks but with the Babybones joining them on stage behind the girls, then into the encore section where Babymetal continues with their (then) recently introduced live Kami Band. The concert then moves to set the scene for Babymetal's lead singer to begin her transition from Suzuka Nakamoto, a mortal J-Pop Idol, to becoming Su-Metal, goddess of metal. This is a fantastic concert that sheds so much light on Babymetal's transitionary period. You should take a look at it when you get time; I reckon you will appreciate it.
Keep the good stuff coming.
Awesome! Good to know! 🙌
OK, now i hope SO MUCH they'll sing it in their 2025 EU tour, just to ear it live 🤘🤘
That would be amazing!! 🙌
I love that Su is already putting flair on her vocals in the 2014 version. She's truly a master.
Definitely!! 🤘
Nice reaction! First song in BABYMETAL's history. This version by the band Kiba of Akiba even sounds like a comedy song lol
Definitely agree!! 🤘
*Me:* “Aaah, finally, I get to go to bed at an appropriate time tonight!”
*Jaron:* QUADRUPLE BABYMETAL REACTION!!!
*Me:* Sh*t… I guess it’s gonna be a “Doki Doki Morning” tomorrow 🤣.
On the vocals: Su definitely sang live, but early on, often to her own vocals on track. This was gradually reduced to pretty much zero tracked vocal support as time went on.
Yui & Moa, and later Momo, will see a varying degree of tracked vocals, depending on the song.
Also, yeah, Kiba of Akiba change the lyrics a bit. A bit strange for a bunch of grown dudes to sing about doing their hair and make up in a hurry before school 😂.
🤘🦊
Hah glad you enjoyed! Good to know! 🤘🤘
@@jarongeil-vocalcovers2484 Haha, fun times!
Great reaction 🦊🦊😁
Thank you!! 🙌🙌
In those 3-4 years, they went from a tiny stage at a small pop idol music festival to the Budokan Arena, which is Japan's equivalent of Madison Square Garden! 🤘🦊🤘
And then went on their first world tour and perform at Sonisphere, all while being still teens
@@autohmae Yes! I feel like a proud uncle!
@@emb5091 As we all do, unless we are an aunt. 🙂
Crazy impressive!! 🙌
Doki Doki Morning is still one of my favorite songs of theirs. Far more than Gimme Chocolate which seems to be their "go to" of their first album. I laugh every time I hear the Kiba of Akiba cover.
It’s very unexpected but entertaining!
The legend of white t shirt guy begins
The Legend!
The original fan! 🤘
The one génesis.
Great reaction! Yep, to watch their evolution is wild😅 For me, the most wild thing is, that they STILL can perform this song and nobody would ever object to that. To the contrary, all crowds love it absolutely 😂 I love it in every version, too!
For the cover version, it sounds quite like System Of A Down. Maybe that´s why Kiba of Akiba is sometimes called the Japanese version of SOAD 🤣
Definitely agree!! 🤘🤘
It's so good to see your face smile every time ‘ring ring ring’. You fall for their tricks, right?, lol. It is a classic that goes with the history of BM.
It’s still so good!! 🙌🙌
You gotta do part 2 of this song now. The night song. Uki Uki Midnight =)
👍👍
Great reaction and commentary, Jaron! As usual, very much enjoy the insight you provide...and a highlight to my week is when you post another Babymetal reaction!
I appreciate that! 🙌🙌
That Kiba of Akiba cover to this day always makes me burst into laughter. It's so damn funny:D
The chorus got me for sure!! 🤘
Doki Doki Morning is the OG Babymetal song. It was their very first song released. It was originally recorded on the 30th of October 2010, and first performed live at the Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 on November 28th 2010 which was their first live appearance (Link: ua-cam.com/video/C-r4bajuu9Y/v-deo.html ). The song first released on the first Sakura Gakuin album "Sakura Gakuin Nendo: Message" on April 27th 2011, and then it was released as DVD single with the original music video (Link: ua-cam.com/video/C-r4bajuu9Y/v-deo.html ) and led to them going viral for the first time. Doki Doki Morning means "Heart Pounding Morning", with "doki doki" being an onomatopoeia for the sound of a racing heart. It's about a girl waking up late for school and daydreaming about what the day may bring and what here future will be. It's an optimistic upbeat song about growing up and being excited for the future.
I like to think of DDM as the proof of concept song for kawaii metal, but it's in a more raw and unrefined form, as the metal and J-pop elements aren't as smoothly integrated as they are in later songs. You see this also with their second released song "Iine" (2011), which juxtaposes the metal and J-pop elements in a similarly blunt fashion. It's not until "Headbangya!" (2012) and "Ijime Dame Zettai" (2013) that the integration of the musical elements becomes more seamless.
You're correct about the 2011 performance being on track. This was at the Tokyo Idol Festival 2011, which was only their seventh live performance. At a lot of the early shows (2010-2013) they performed to a backtrack including the vocals. Even at Legend 1997 some of the songs were on track. I think 2014 was the point where they went fully live.
I was at Legend MM for the 2024 performance and I was yelling "Ima nan-ji?!" along with all the other crazy fans. They don't play DDM live very often anymore, so it's always special treat when they perform it again and the fans always go off for it. One thing that I always think is cool with the more modern performances is how Su-metal is able to change her voice to sound like her younger self.
And yes, Kiba of Akiba's cover is kind of demented and hilarious.
It's really a shame that you didn't do the Makuhari Messe 2023 version, it has a special surprise - ua-cam.com/video/PUC4UC-L4TA/v-deo.html (hint hint)
Well I figured the 2023 and 2024 versions wouldn’t be that different, only being a year apart, and other people were saying I should’ve done the music video also, but then it would be closer to, if not over a half hour video.
@@jarongeil-vocalcovers2484 still, the 2023 version has a really special surprise!!
See the original MV!
👍
well that was a welcome surprise, great reaction though as i have no japanese but do know some bread i'll have "ciabatta, ciabatta" stuck in my head now. Yeah its the melding of the two styles that babymetal do so well, it fits and doesnt jar your ears. I often find watching the early ones im listening to lyrics, watching dancing and doing a little bop while my brain is trying to tell me 'The music is going hard as hell!' When they 1st started they apparantly didnt have a big budget as Amuse werent sure it'd work. gotta say that 1st one..HOW SMOL? just awwww but hell the talent spotter knew his stuff!
ah 'cho-matte' not ciabatta
Nice! 🤘🤘
You just know the Kiba of Akiba guys had a lot of fun with it. Possible intoxicated. 🙂
Very possible!
The live version featuring Metalverse in 2023 was great.
🤘
👍👍👍👍Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome!!!! Kawaii overload? No Way, give me more. Thanks for this reaction. 🦊 🖖❤
For sure!! 🤘🤘
The singing was always live, but in the beginning she sang with her tracked voice(it’s just not turned up as much), then very quickly after that they would only have the music as a backing track, 2012/13 the Live band made appearances and then stayed by 2013. Some songs Su has a clean voice then one with lots of effects, but it’s still live. Lots of people say Su can’t run and jump around while singing (because she doesn’t mess up her voice) but she’s just a bad ass! Lol
🤘👍
It's impossible not to smile watching this. In addition to the music, they're just so damn adorable.
For sure!! 🤘
Incredible quadruple reaction, although BabyMetal fans are never satisfied!! 🤣
You still have 2 really interesting videos to see of this song:
- The official music video
- The one in Makuhari 2023 (Perhaps the most confusing BM performance of all time).
I would understand that you would not want to record video for those two performances since you have seen 4 of them, but I highly recommend that you at least see them on your own.
BabyMetal Forever!! 🦊🦊🍅🦊
Maybe I will!! 🤘🤘

Nice!
And remember... Afer 'Doki Doki Morning'... Need to react to 'Uki Uki Midnight'... Just sayin' 🙃
Even Rob Halford said he paid attention to this song back then when BM was unknown to anybody 🤣🤘🔥
👍👍
Great reaction. Top notch. GREAT to see a performance that i had actually not seen (2011). Great performers and rocking it for 15 years now. Stronger than ever. There Brazil portion of there latest tour was crazy. Sao Paulo, Brazil LOVES Babymetal. Even the girls were shocked and all smiles at how SUPER Hyped the crowd was.
Their growth is outstanding for sure! 🤘
My children have grown up and become ladies. 😊
Nice reaction👍🌟 Everytime enjoy from Japan🙌🎶

Nice reaction, next babymetal llne🤘🙏
Thanks! 🤘👍
Something I wondered about, they didn't change the backing track, I wonder if it is because it wasn't preserved in a way that they could easily update it. This song was made when the budget was low if pretty much non-existent and obviously many years ago.
I think they kept it the same for nostalgia purposes. They could’ve easily updated it by making a new version of the track, but it doesn’t seem like they need to.
Great reaction, but a tiny bit of criticism for not including the official music video. :-)
I'm not gonna lie, back when I was new to BABYMETAL and this song came up when driving through the city in my car, the metalhead in me turned down the volume a bit, because it felt a little too poppy to me. But at some point there was no denying it anymore, I just love it, and now I blast it at full volume everywhere. You are never too old to evolve. :-)
I could still do the music video eventually! If I threw that in there it probably would’ve been a half hour video!
if you want to really time travel look up karen girls, the short lived group su was in before babymetal was formed. one of their big songs is "over the future". both yui and moa were fans of karen girls, and not long after babymetal formed they got to perform "over the future" with su which was a dream come true for them.
That’s wild! 🤘
The audience participation that these girls get, even at a very young age in that first vid, is next level. I would be right there with them yelling "Ima Nanji" = What Time Is It Now.
PS... The Kami band always kills it! I do prefer the East Kamis but both versions are incredible.
It gives me a goosebump hearing the crowd shouting Ima Nanji... Is it 2010? Is it 2024? It reflects so much on the time that passed since they first took the stage and performed in front of their families and friends. If you wake up in 2024 and see where and WHAT they are now, you have to ask what time is it.
Yeah their early support is amazing! 🙌
I was at this show, I was so glad they played this song!!!
Which one??
@@jarongeil-vocalcovers2484 Legend MM
Well, this was their first Song ever. And we see, they try to simulate their MusicVideo. Well they are specialists. Idols are taught to sing to their Backing Tracks. Most idols never have a Chance to sing to live instruments. In the beginning Su oten enough didn't have the breath for singing and dancing. While Sakura Gakuin wanted to bring all their girls to this point, most were overwhelmed from the training . While they mastered it, Su remembers by the thought of Sakura Gakuin Rivers of Sweat. But today they are one of very few groups that handle a combination of live performance and backing tracks. The girls and the Kami Band can do this. While many other Bands switch to pure miming.
They are so adorable 😍
🤘
Jaron review Da Da Dance Babymetal legend MM 2024, it’s a blast and such a catchy chorus
Sounds like it from the title! 🤘
Yeah! This is the song that changed the world of metal and made me love these wonderful girls. As always, great reaction, Kitsune. I recommend that you can react to "Amore" live, Su' solo. Believe me, you will love this song and performance. See you! 🤟🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥
For sure! Thanks!! 🤘🤘
Yeah, it was just playback at that first performamce. This was not something that they had much control over though. It is simply how many of those Idol shows are set up. It's cheaper (less equipment and staff) and faster (requires very little setup, rehearsals or soundchecks), and the organizers don't have to worry about the kids making them look bad on stage. Of course many artists chose to lip-sync if they can get away with it, but never Babymetal. In fact, I don't think you could stop Su from singing even if you tried. It's just that she doesn't always have much control over what actually comes through the speakers. Or at least she didn't when she was 13.
Makes sense! 👍👍
I can appreciate someone who appreciates music 🙂 I do love me some Babymetal though! They have such a huge variety of music! I think you’ll really enjoy all the different types of songs they have! New sub, hope you’re having a great day 🦊🤘
That’s awesome! Thanks! 🙌🤘
Nothing is random. Even the camera work is choreographed to capture the choreography
👍
I don't know whether Su sang that first one legit or not, but you can watch videos of her performances dating back even before Babymetal, both with a group (Karen Girl's) and solo, in Actor's School Hiroshiima.
👍
I want to hear Doki Doki Morning live so I can yell "IMA NANJI". I think the Kiba of Akiba version is terrible but it's comically terrible. So, in the end, kind of fun to listen to.
I think it’s supposed to be more obnoxious! 🤘
Great reaction - thanks for helping me a smile today! You should take a look at the official MV for this one too - just for your own enjoyment. There is even a video of the group members commenting on making the music video which is a fun watch ua-cam.com/video/57mrrV2A95c/v-deo.htmlsi=Q3-NXCD5-Pzgl8MK 🦊🤘
Nice! Thanks! 🤘
Amazing to see where they started from and where they’re at now. Really is a catchy chorus🦊
Should check out Metali, Legend MM 24 or the Music video,
Usually their official music videos are less preferred but I think the metali and megitsune videos are exceptions
Megitsune would also be another great song to react to.👍
Definitely! 👍👍
Enjoyed watching your reaction to this collection of performances of one of Babymetal's very early (if not their very 1st) recorded songs. So much of this song - the music, the vocals, the choreo - have stayed essentially the same over the years. I still like it a lot and it's definitely a fan-favorite. And when performed in Japan, there's a lot of crowd interaction - so cool! You didn't mention any differences (I don't think) between the performance by the original East Kami band and the West Kami band from the more recent videos. Did you notice any differences or are the instrumental parts of this song just so basic that there's not much room for comparisons?
Thanks! I didn’t notice any differences instrumentally. It’s a fairly basic structure for a song, and any differences I’ve noticed on different performances from their other songs has mostly been in the tracks 🤘
🦊🦊🦊
🤘🤘🤘
I hadn't heard the Kiba of Akiba's cover song and I felt like the first time I heard "THE END" by Lil Uzi Vert ft. BABYMETAL. Schizo song but for some reason I love it.
By the way, you talking about the outfits and that one in Legend MM is my favorite so far. Cool but cute.
They look awesome for sure!! 🤘
Thank you for nice reaction & analysis to compare each generation 👍👍👍. Could you please do the same for Headbanger in each version? There are 4 versions; Sumetal (original), Yuimetal 🍅(recommend “BM REMASTERED” channel), Moametal 🐨 for Moabanger ver. (recommend “For the Fox God” channel), Momometal 🍑 for Momobanger ver. (recommend “For the Fox God” channel). They’re all super awesome and always enjoy to watch. Thank you in advance and wait for your reaction 🤘.
Definitely!! 🤘🤘🤘
Yeah, the 1st video was all backtracked and lip-synced. Early on, they caught hell for the lip-syncing so that ended quick. Now they just use it appropriately.
Doki Doki Morning!!!
This is their 1st ever song. The origin of Kawaii Metal.
The 1st performance was from Tokyo Idol Festival 2011 as part of their parent group, Sakura Gakuin back then. If I'm not mistaken, that was also Babymetal's 2nd ever performance as well. It's not really mixed very well, but there was live singing, but they also used full backtrack rather than instrumental only backtrack. Which was common for the festival.
Next, I would suggest another Black Babymetal song:
Babymetal - "Song 4" Live at Budokan 2014.

Anyway, enjoy!! 🦊🦊🦊
Good to know! Thanks! 🤘
Just a heads up.... generally of they are using the headphone type microphones that is not them singing... if they have a hand Mike and it is close to the singer's mouth it is live.... I see this a lot especially in KPOP where thr group usually has only one or two members that sing live and the rest are pre recorded tracks because while they are good on recording the producers don't really want them singing live for one reason or another... this is what I look for in live performances to see which singer's they trust to sing well live.
Not always the case with BABYMETAL. Moa's and Momoko's (and Yui's before her) head mics are live. They may get more or less help from backing track on their vocals depending on the song/choreo, but they were and are singing live most of the time.
Not really true. Many instances where the head mounted mics were clearly live.
This isn't even remotely true. Moa and Momo vocals are all live during Legend MM, there are blatant parts of the concerts that mistakes happened that they didn't bother going back and correct. An example of this is during Headbanger, part of the song one of them forgets to sing or the mic wasn't live, and then their harmonies are slightly off kilter for a portion of it.
It's partially live during Budokan 2014 as well.
@@Grington300 yes, but BabyMetal original was pre recorded in their early years, then they gradually went to Sumetal live, then the Kami Band live then all of them live.
@@gerardcote8391 They were all singing live a lot earlier than most people give them credit for - Su right from the start although she was singing over track for the first couple of SG and Idol festival shows.
Yui and Moa were also singing live before the Kami Band was introduced in 2012.
They are not like KPop groups who may be there mainly for their looks and where the show is all about the intricate (but otherwise pointless) dancing.
The video from the Tokyo Idol Festival is lip syncing. Also the White Shirt Guy on the front right he is one of the earliest fans
The original fan is a hilarious concept!
Sadly the song has become a rarity live after Yui had to quit performing.
They only played it at their 2021 anniversary shows, the 2023 Babymetal Returns shows and Legend M in 2024.
