- In this Ibiza video we fly a drone around one of the worlds best nightclubs Amnesia Ibiza located in the Mediterranean Island of Ibiza in Spain, Amnesia, the temple of electronic music. Home to the best DJs and the best parties. Pyramid, Cocoon, Together, Abode, elrow and much more.Amnesia is one of several internationally renowned clubs in Ibiza. It opened in 1976; the venue was awarded Best Global Club in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 at the IDMA Awards in Miami. The club is located close to the village of San Rafael on the highway between Sant Antoni de Portmany and Ibiza Town. The origins of Amnesia are in April 1970, when the Planells family who had inhabited the house for five generations decided to move into town and sell their finca (country house) to a widow from an aristocratic background. Ibiza, which had become a destination for tourism already in the fifties, was at that time a hive for counterculture and idealists and the building that was to become Amnesia turned into a meeting point with hippie bands playing and other facets of hippie culture taking place.
In May 1976, Antonio Escohotado, a Madrid born philosopher who had arrived on the island five years earlier to start a new life, signed a lease with the landlady for use of the premises. He launched a discotheque named "El taller de los olvidadizos" ("The Workshop of the Forgetful Ones"). He wanted to express that when people go out at night it is to forget their problems and indulge in an unknown world far away from ordinary routine. However, the next day he realized that the Greek word Amnesia contains it all.
In 1978, Ginés Sánchez, a manufacturer from Madrid took over Amnesia. Unexpected closings alternated with wonderful summers with capacity crowds in active competition with the other discothèques, such as Ku (now Privilege), Pacha, Glory's and Lola's.
In the 1980s, Prontxio Izaguirre took over the running of Amnesia, and the music changed to dance music, a mix between pop and funk, and hip hop. Freestyle mixing was permitted and house was about to take over. The original Balearic Beat emerged invented by legends like DJ Alfredo Fiorito.[5] On the night of June 22, 1991 Amnesia reopened under MFC management. It is at this time that the clubs of Ibiza began to gain international fame. In the mid nineties, Ezna Sands was instrumental in the arrival of many UK promoters and labels, including the legendary Joseph Mullen, onto the Balearic Island and into Amnesia specifically. This heralded a shift in the perception that the Island was simply a destination for 18-30 holiday makers, instead becoming the mecca for dance music enthusiasts with Amnesia and Pacha.
The club experienced expansion with the number of bars increasing from four to 16, and from a staff of 30 to more than 200 employees during the summer festivities. The staff now includes waiters, go-go dancers, security and administration staff. Nowadays the venue has a capacity of 5,000 people and is divided into two areas: Main Room and Terrace and is home to Do Not Sleep, Elrow parties amongst a host of other artists playing here from Carl Cox, Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren, & many many more

Anyone else remember the dj being up high and the big graphic equaliser. Cream and the foam parties were awesome. 98-2008. Loved Amnesia!!
Yea he was wrong about where the “real” dj was on Kevin and Perry. it was the same place but it was on the same level as where Kevin and Perry was above the big graphic equaliser. Seems there is some scaffold rig there now for lighting. The big steam cannon was across the room from the dj just below the VIP lounge.

Amazing vlog, so many memories here! My first night was Cream on a Thursday in 2010, i felt like i was in Kevin n Perry! Does anybody know why they changed the DJ box in the main room? It used to be higher up

First time at Amnesia was 2017 watching Marco Carola. The place was packed. Huge drop and the place erupted. Best feeling ever.
Went back in 2019 watching Eats Everything all night long. Absolute banger of a night. My ears were ringing for 3 days after. Can’t wait to get back in 2022…..even though I’m 43.

Never liked coming out of a club to daylight at 6am. Always a crappy feeling knowing the night was over and wondering where the last 8-9 hours went!
Haha, it shut at 5 this weekend but all restrictions are now lifted as of next week so good sign for next summer

As an old trance head my self, I've listened to so many legendary dj sets from this club from legends as Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules and so on.... Never been to the island, but I hope to visit it and this amazing club one day :)

My first time was Armada night back in the first week of August 2004. Absolutely amazing night.
For me the greatest club I’ve been too, it had everything from the dark main room and the surreal terrace, some amazing nights there that date back to my first visit in 1998 through to 2005, I was even there when Kevin & Perry was filmed, to be honest I didn’t have a clue what was going on but they filmed between Guy Ornadel & Seb Fontaine’s set at Cream, Harry Enfield was asking the crowd to boo and cheer at various points! Other highlights are Tiesto in 2004, the best tech trance set I’ve ever heard and Cocoon where Sven Vath has tore the main room down many times, particularly remember a Marco Carola Cocoon night that flashed past in about 10 mins it was so good!

Most of the clubs brought there booths into the crowd, eden has also for more interaction I guess but not sure
as a fellow trance head warms my heart to see you smile when talking about the cream nights in amneisa they were fucking banging, can hear the passion in your voice when talking about it trance is magical i hear you brother shame trance has taken a step back in ibiza why do you think that is? its still very much pumping in the UK

This just pooped up again and it was great to watch. My first time was 1998 and my last was 2019, before Covid. I'm 64 now and not a frequent clubber but man, I still miss it.

My first time there was 1998 on a monday, I got flashbacks from your video, remembering the old floor before the renovations. Then memories…..I almost started crying, better times than today. I had to pause and rewatch after I got a grip on myself. Covid life sucks.

Shame they dropped the main room DJ booth down, doesn't seem right now.
Firstly, fantastic sweeps of the club by the drone operator....flying up stairs, through hand-rails, between both rooms, over the DJ booth, until finally coming to rest pointing at the "Amnesia" logo. Really great footage! And seemingly, all in a single take with no cuts!
Secondly, my first time in Amnesia (which occurred the first time I went to Ibiza in 2001) was at GODS KITCHEN (a trance night), on Thursday nights. These were the years when Ferry Corsten was huge and doing his best work. The nights at Gods Kitchen really hammered home my desire and need to come back to Ibiza year after year and enjoy the club scene, which i've done since then (except 2020). I aim to be back twice in 2022.

I was there in 2000, but it is one of those nights where memory is quite fuzzy. I remember going home with some dude without realising he was gay and fancied me before he tried to kiss me. I just got my first (and only) tattoo earlier that day and kept flashing it to him, so I can see how he got the wrong idea. 🙈
2013 1st time
My absolute favourite club!!!! First time I was 17 in 2005. Cream on Thursday nights. My life changed forever that very night. There hasn’t been a year since where I haven’t set foot in that club. (Minus the pandemic obvs). Thanks for the memories Amnesia. (When you think about it, that last sentence shouldn’t make sense 😂)

I went to the Together event in 2014 with Skrillex and others playing. Didn’t expect how big and intense the place was until I walked in for the first time. Amazing evening

1996 here ... one strange memory for me n my mates, one of the dancers / acrobats fell off the structures attached to the roof and landed on the floor... awful accident. Anyone else remember that event, was July 1996... Durham UK 🇬🇧 ❤️
Went in 97 and saw Oakie and Dave Ralph DJ in the main room. I remember the massive JBL horns and the light coming up in the courtyard. The sound system for a JBL rigg (Junk but loud) was actually one of the best on the Island. Amazing club.

1990 was my first experience the first year with the arched glass retractable roof which when they opened it and you could see the stars the DJ was high up was great when the sun came up There was a chill out bit was only small with the mirrored pyramid everyone used to sit round it if i remember there was a old red phonebox up there too it was open air that bit so when you walked back in to the main room that sound system wow. They covered all the open top roofs KU as well KU was before Privilege in about 96 i think??

I was there once, in 98, but apparently I chose the wrong night, expecting it to be packed every night.
Have only been there twice, but purely by chance our first time ever was the night they were filming Kevin and Perry. My wife spotted Cathy Burke and Rhys Ifans, proper random, amazing night, amazing club.
I went to 2005 for the first time, cream with PVD one of the best nights I have ever been to. Went to go back in 2007 however amnesia was closed down due to the drugs scandal. I was absolutely gutted I couldn’t go again and not been back to the island since!
First visit was Cream: Radio One Essential Mix Live. August 9th 1997. I've still got the flyer in a frame!!
i was there in 2000 where MTV makes some Events. The DJ back then was Roger Sanchez. But i remember, we don‘t like it so much. Another Night was Cocoon with Sven Väth… that was a good Techno Night.

Love this mate, first time I ever went was 1998 for Cream on the Thursday, never used to like the Terrace or at least don't think I ever tried it properly until mid 2000's as was always in the main room, but since been back for Cocoon and then Locodice's night a few years back and the Terrace is incredible. Did you ever go when the DJ box was in the middle of the room in The Terrace?

95 and 96. Best club in the world. Strage thing is though, if this exact same club would be anywhere else in the world, it wouldn't work.
great vid and thanks for sharing! looks totally different from what i remember going there in 1999, gods kitchen event, and i think it was the closing party, entered with £200 in my pocket and 10 mins later i was skint after scoring a bean and consuming it and then realising i then couldnt pay! after looking around for my money thinking ive dropped it on the floor, 10 mins later i really didnt give a sh*t and proceeded to have a fantastic night! quite a few years later i heard that back then there were unscrupulous people pick pocketing! that never even crossed my mind at the time but totally makes sense
June 2016 pvd, best night of my life
Been there twice, 2000 and then 2001. Both times was for Cream, PvD was Djing at least for one of the nights I remember. I have some amazing memories of the place, but it's really hard to put my memories against how the club looks in your video. Nightclubs always look _very_ different empty in the daytime! I could have sworn the DJ booth in the main room was higher than it looks here, and I seem to remember the terrace had some trees in it?? But really cool to see it like this, great video!

It’s a horrendous place compared to the beautiful open air mid to late 80s when there was only about 50 of us English and we would get in for nish 🎼

Went to the last ever Cream in Amnesia in 2017. Didn't even know at the time. Amazing!!! So sad won't get to see it there again. Coming in September but nothing appealing on there
My favourite club in the world! Saw Nu NRG, Tiesto, PVD, Armin + others in 2004 & Eric Prydz on the terrace for 2nite in 2011. Been way too long since I've been there.

I was there back in 2001 amazing summer for trance lovers. I went to a Godskitchen night. I seem to remember in the terrace the DJ booth wasn’t at the end it was along the edge ? Also I thought the main room was a similar size to the terrace but it seems that the terrace is a lot bigger than the main room ?
Watched a guy get laid out by a bouncer there in 2011 🙈 it look so small inside from thr videos but the rooms are massive !
First time was in 2015, almost died but lived to tell a great story to my grand kids :)
Thursday night was always the best back in the day, Cream would always be the highlight of the week.

Great vlog Dwayne, always great content man - have to admit i much preferred Amnesia with the open air terrace(went 89, 94, 96 and 98) with loads of foliage everywhere plus that main room had a clearer roof which let the daylight in which was great come sunrise....plus that big digital graphic equalizer going along with the music was legendary. Good times then good times now though, everything moves on and changes but for me Amnesia is nowhere near as good as it was...yes i sound like an old bore but there you go!

Seen all the top DJs there but nothing beat Thursdays at cream. Amnesia in the 90s was special. Thanks for sharing this vlog with us 👍.

I would have loved that. Sven Vath at Amensia and New Order at Hacienda. That would be me sooo happy. Obviously Hacienda would have been better becuase they have the worlds greatest ever band in New Order. There will never be a band as intelligent as New Order ever.

Was working in ibiza 1999 - 2003 ..and to lads from the North East Sunderland and Newcastle in 2000 were mates with the bugged out crew and asked if I wanted to go to Amnesia.. hell ya ..what a night 🌙 double dipped..and the rest was history.. but D.c 10 is the place for Me..!! 🤩🥳👌

Went there once with my brother, I think it was early 00’s maybe 2001 I don’t remember. Funny thing is I never knew there was a 2nd room ha ha! We wasn’t there long enough because I do remember I got toothache and wasn’t really up to partying! Amazing vlog, I brings back that night.
