Woooo! Randy takes those corners like a boss 🔥🔥🔥! Congrats to Randy, Ben, and the whole UP Tesla team for setting the fastest lap in your class so far! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings! 👍👍👍 Excellent video guys!!
Without no engine roaring and only humming, clearly road noise is very-very noticeable..I thought it'll ruin the excitement, but seeing this model 3 running like beast..shoutout to unplugged performance and randy for this satisfying run..love it
Congratulations! Very interesting to see how fast the battery recovers on regenerative breaking. And very impressive how it accelerates after the slowing down in the curves.
Nice run, but Randy had battery overheating at 3:02, the whole climb will be over 8min. What kind do of speed do you think can be maintained? ID.R was 7:57, custom vehicle I know compared to a stripped Model 3 with custom brakes and suspension and anything else? Brakes did great BTW, congratulations to Unplugged Performance.
Guess with 180 miles battery remaining. After a 4+minute all out sprint. Proves a tesla can do track day's just fine. 🤔 congrats to everyone involved with this rocketship.
Pretty fascinating tbh. Shame they crashed this beauty. Although the last model 3 to run. On that channel they mentioned an interesting tidbit. About how 23% off all the energy that has gone into their battery was from regen. And tesla actually lags behind Porsche on total regen. Makes one wonder in the near future about how aggressive regen might get? Especially on race applications. Like here where Randy mentioned how aggressive it was on throttle liftoff going into braking zones. 🤔
How high up do they go in the qualifying rounds? Is it done at the top of the course or the bottom? Hope it was on the lower part because that bodes well for the final race. The ICE cars are going to be struggling to breath at 14000ft, EVs don't need air, think the Moon Buggy.
those aren't the stock tires so likely have a lower recommended rating for pressure. Edit: at least in Assetto Corsa when we race on slicks, the recommended pressure is 27-28 for max grip
@@jinglesmcgee7256 Oh yeah, I know they're not street tires but I still thought that was too low a pressure given a 4000lb car. I assumed it was due to low surface grip, no worries about sidewall stress, but I hear the top has been all resurfaced for maximum grip. It's interesting!
There is still some performance loss. From HEAT! The air at those altitudes is thin enough that it reduces heat dissipation in a meaningful way. The car will definitely start hitting thermal throttling at some point when pushed like this.
They have made additional cooling upgrades to the car . I think they added more radiators in the frunk area to assist the cars stock cooling . I'm guessing this would be something they can fine tune before the full run .
Cars need a lot of tuning to do Pikes Peak. I think the Tesla can be a beast if they can keep the battery cool enough. Most cars have trouble breathing up there so it's got that going for it.
See that display behind the steering wheel, in front of the driver? THAT'S what I want Tesla to offer as an option for Performance M3 and MY. C'mon, it's a driver's car!
Sure, must be quite an experience to drive, but damn man, it's just painfully boring to watch after the first few turns when you can't hear a good sound :(
AFAIK, powertrain (motors, battery, and software) are stock. Mods are Unplugged Performance's bolt on stuff that any average joe can buy. Obviously roll cage, stripped out interior, race specific equipment are not, but suspension parts, wheels, brakes, body aero kits are.
If you are into performance racing EVs to look into aluminium - air type of storage. These are said to have a much better energy density, thus lower weight. But they are like normal AA batteries you use for your TV remote, one time use, so i would say a hybrid system with a small li-ion battery pack that is kept as buffer to be used as last line of defence, and these aluminium-air easy to install battery packs that will be powering the vehicle. Advantage of drastically reduced weight because of better energy density, plus all those cooling systems, and intricate subassemblies.to safeguard them, etc..etc... You get my idea. So go to chemical development companies to build you special batteries like this..try out different sizes, so that you can revolutionize the racing field. To be noted, these batteries are like gas for ICE vehicles, so EV cars should be permited to refuel by simply swapping out the battery with a full one.
4:46 Randy confused for like 1 sec to find the shift knob.. Amazing Randy you are my hero!
I heard to whoo at the 3 minute mark. Lol. Randy was having too much fun on the first day. Be safe up there and enjoy the car!
3:11 if anyone can't find it

What a car!!! Congratulations to UP!
The king in his kingdom
Simply amazing. Thank you UP, Randy P, Tesla, and anyone else that contributed.

Pobst is amazing. Glad UP was able to get him involved.
my ears popped just watching this
Is it just me or is this just super relaxing to watch...
Pobst is a legend! Fantastic run and looking forward to the rest of the week!
Congratulations! Very interesting to see how fast the battery recovers on regenerative breaking. And very impressive how it accelerates after the slowing down in the curves.
What a beast! Great run
Great driving and what an awesome “course”! TM3P owner here and Unolugged really made a beast foe you.
Good luck with the full run!
I could watch this all day!
So I was watching this and I was like, that seems really slow. Then I realised it was mph not kph. Also the lack of engine noise is really freaky.
Love the energy! Good job!
So freaking awesome!
Love it !!! This is how EVC racing will be going very soon !!! Long live EVC
Electric power! Amazing car amazing driving.
That Tesla OTA software update notice at the end, lol.
Randy: Yo Elon, drop me some more powa
Elon: Here you go
It's probably just 32.2. :D

Living just a couple miles away, I wish I could be there to watch this year :(
This is how you make a company known - do things like this - ! Great job UP!!! Elon has to love this ish.
Fantastically delightful!
Can you share the track mode settings for the run👍
im glad he is ok , great guy !
Sorry about the crash :( Hopefully you guys can get it patched back together in time for another run!

Even better he mentions that the 180 miles left was after two lower runs. He then says that those two runs are about the same as all the way up.

What mount was used for this angle shot?

This is amazing!! I want a ride in this thing
And the haters keep saying Tesla's are only fast in a straight line....
the cornering speed is astonishing
is there footage of the crash?
So is this the other Tesla that didn't crash or the crashed Tesla just some races before the crash?
So strange that there's no shifting. Awesome.
I love the software update prompt at the end there. Tesla trying to slide some extra HP in for you ;)
Hi, could you please show speed in kmh too ?
Multiply mph by 1.6
Outstanding 👍
Beautiful
What does the car weigh?
Incredible!
The bottle of NOS in the passenger seat is why this car is so quick.
The NOS is for the driver...
@@Wirmish Probst: Just qualified for pikes peak lmao
He's a french taxi driver?
A plaid Model S with SEBASTIEN LOEB as driver would be terrific
i think he was driving it a bit conservative!
Just Awesome.
You can see the Nitrous Bottle on the right. :-)
incredible!
Seems like he might have been a bit too confident with the car. Oh well. You guys will get it next time!
That’s some low tire pressures if you’re 28-31 hot. I’m surprised running that low given the weight of the car.

ofcourse it will be great even higher, cause no ICE to suffer from thinner air and gravity and loose performance!

Is the speed in mph or kmh?
Mph
How much does it weigh?
Must be over 4,000# as it has a full cage, and additional safety equipment to run the mountain. And a stock m3p is just over 4,000#
Supposedly 3,999 with Randy in it.
Looks like when you were playing Sega Rally and didn't want to wake up your parents.
Seems the battery cannot handle the full length.
It went orange/red before entering the upper half.
Anyway, they crashed. So we never know the answer.
looks like it was not fully charged when it started.

They only filled it halfway to save weight

Get a Model S.
Strap an old tablet there, and run Teslastats.
So RAD!
to give ice-cars a large smackdown... :-))))
battery gets very hot a 3 min.
dude, you got a softwareupdate! Do it! hahaha

Holy cow that is fast. Considering that this is almost a regular street car and not a purpose-built race car …

Quick. Put the Chevy ZL1 suspension on it since its wrecked. Maybe it will be fast this time😎
Must be fun to drive. But !Annie it boring to watch. I miss watching car videos where you can hear the engine, the exhaust, the turbos
It's a real Tesla... Annoying metal clicking sounds.
