Thank you again for this series. On the topic of how long it takes, I couldn't help but be reminded of a line from, of all things, Indiana Jones: "It ain't the years, it's the mileage." Perhaps the most unlikely daoist concept to bloom from a Hollywood adventure film.
24:45 Fear not, Adam. Too often do i try to repeat your teachings(not just yours actually) and i get surrounded by people that don't understand And don't take the time to test/think about it..
Hello Adam and Chris! love your work and how you explain things, your videos have been really helpful and eye opening for me and so i wanted to ask you about post training. In another video you mentioned there are lots of different stances of post training, different forms. Im guessing each stance has different purpose so i was wondering if you could talk a little bit about others styles of post training that you know? Thanks in advance for all the knowledge 🙏
this is why ever since as a very young person when Brice lee said Be like water , that stuck and it took me a long time to fully understand the full meaning of this but also to let it go. I agree Carl Jung I personally think was very heavily influenced by eastern philosophies I notice a lot of taoism
29:00 One of my Ma-teachers (there were 5 in the same dojo) would start of with a warm-up for a small hour..trained (reptition of universal) techniques and principles and when the 4fth hr approached he would have us doing meditation. Looking back i understand now you can't be constantly in a "fight'' mode..that is not the same as being in a constant state of awareness..
I've read a book about a monk named Suzuki Shosan. He sounds like the guy Adam mentioned. Critical of other monks, always practicing. He also said often that he was not "enlightened", that he only occasionally found it. He also had this thing where he reminded himself daily that he was going to die. He claimed that was what gave him the mental energy to engage in zazen as often as he did.
Some questions I'm curious to know the answers to: Are there any benefits (or risks) to achieving this dissolved state in daily life, whether it's martial, mental, or spiritual? Is this experience related to internal martial arts/qi cultivation or is it a different path altogether? And if enlightenment isn't a state but the pursuit of an infinite path, what are you still chasing after by staying on the path? And does enlightenment (as a noun or state of being) still mean anything in this perspective? Very fascinating discussion. Cheers.
Ultimately this is a proccess you need to experience. You at least need a teacher who’s gone through it and can take you through it, Chi kung can be dangerous so most nei kung methods are intergrated carefully and slowly. Learning Zhan Zhaung ( standing meditation) from good teachers is a good staring point. see the lam association online, they do online private tutorials. What is one still chasing? That’s the curious thing as one connects with the original nature you start to flow in the peace, you not really chasing after anything, that’s a ego thing. But you just enjoy it, flowing in energy, truth, peace. 🙏
I was once lying down on the grass in the park.. Did some visualition and meditation. All of a sudden the depth was no longer below me (gravity)..in my mind i was looking into space with my eyes closed. The earth no longer mattered, the universe/space was being observed and i had little control or feeling ie. my body.. I tought i was tripping as i used cannabis at the time. I tried it again sober with the same results. At this point it has now become so life-changing that it scares me a little. Does this make sense or am i just fantasizing?
I think 1-2 hour a day. But gotta have some days where you do 4 hours a day, or multiple 2 hour sessions a day. There also comes a point where you can do so much you are trying to attain something and you build tension, tension not good for dissolving then you gotta dial it back some, then obsession which is inline with human ego and not ones original nature. So…. somethings you gotta go on feel and drop back, but you want get that 1-2 hours a day in. Big dedication, if you can go through the earlier aspects of dissolving getting rid of blockages well worth it,. 🙏
Most people (in my circle) will never be comfortable with Solitude..they just can't be alone. To refer to adam's notion ''don't get addicted; is it possible to get addicted to solitude? 98% of the time i'm in solitude (or look for it) but never do i once feel 'alone'.
Still not sure what the purpose of attaining those highest levels is. You manage to circumvent your brain's process of structuring the self and other related structures and probably experience raw electromagnetic activity - the point being?
Question; could it be that i exhale negative energy during 'meditation'. It's how i feel it and it might not be scientifically provable.. During one session i heard and felt a snap in my brain..like a hammer that hits you but without the superficial pain. It kind of freaked me out but i was ok.. The same with involuntary muscle activaty.. For a western mind this seems overwhelming.. I often wondered if i was reborn or basically a different person. Ps, i appreciate you bringing in 'Kundalini. Kundalini is/was a way of spiritual living. Believe it or not but i saw people's weather..a storm cloud over their head, sunshine, a refreshing drizzle. I know this might sound cartoonish but i hope/expect Adam to have respect for these visions.
It is a fact. Western philosophers get really stuck on 'Nature'. I have experienced this with scholared professors. 'Nature' is everything..(in my book). Wether it be a verb, a noun, a sentation/feeling..understanding.. Example; the Nature of things, human Nature, etc...
The holly shit state!. It is the best terminology that can be applied, especially when the language begins to fail in these areas. I personally access these states by walking the shamanic path initiating the healing process and now I am looking for the way back from the practices you are sharing. For now I am exercising my standing practice. I feel stuck at the moment in peng stuff and these podcasts have helped me a lot. I am grateful for everything you have shared. blessings for your life and yours. Have a great day.guys! PD: How much time do you recommend doing standing practice per day? Same as sitting meditation practice?
You over-estmate astro-physisists by saying 80% is unknown. Some of them gladly admit they have to discover more before they can start explaining what they know intuitivly..
In Zen, seeing one's nature: Kensho is only the beginning; then comes the lifelong process of integration.
Thank you for this wonderful talk!

Thank you Adam, I’ve been following you for a while now. Much appreciation for your insights. 🙏

It's not a myth. Cultivation takes time. You are more fortunate than most. It is rare to open up the stuff.
