In my reactions, I show you my initial reaction (or fangirling) to music videos/songs. I sometimes also comment about technical aspects, or the production of the video if anything such stands out to me. I am not trying to delve into meanings, I only want to share my initial thoughts and explain how I think they achieved things and why, in my personal opinion, they work or don't work.

Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love which you kind of gotten from the lyrics. One theory is that the capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc.
Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival, the cut teddy bear etc.; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head bobs, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. The play on color is also symbolised the two different world where the red is the "doppelganger" world and the indigo-ish is the real world (there is also another theory that is link to the title where BE relates to the Korean word ‘피’ (‘pi’), which means “blood” and which may represent the deoxygenated and oxygenated blood, respectively). There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart.
More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality.
Ohh thanks so much for sharing all this, this is super interesting! I haven't seen "Us" yet as I'm too scared lol but I've seen many reviews and know what it's about. I can totally see all of those elements you pointed out, now I can't unsee any of them. Even the part about the music, that's so true and what makes me like the song. its been confirmed the MV is mostly inspired by Jordan Peele's movie "Us" with doppelganger concept

Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. One commenter noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That commenter is Jad Hamizan and he deserves all the credit for noticing that.
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your expression is blue, blue. Your face is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
How are they so consistently amazing?
I don't know much about them, but this is.. catchy! 😆

Yaayyy!! Dreamcatcher!! Visually loved the video, it's so fresh but also classic Dreamcatcher, I call this the Neo-Nightmare era even though it has nothing to do with it, but I love we get old and new vibes from other videos in BEcause, so good!! Hope you enjoy the album Sarah!! (Also super good)
That's actually such a good term and observation! And "neo" also reminds me of neon, which fits all those green lights around Dami too 😆
I've been waiting for this because I wanted to hear your opinions and thoughts about this video production. As expected, your analization is on-point and I was able to learn more.
I'm glad that you've pointed out the dominant colors present in this MV, especially the blue and red hue. For someone who have already watched the movie Us, they may easily determine the similar takes of the MV from that film. The color grading of the scenes and the color of their wardrobe itself had something to do with the separation of doppelganger (red) from the "original" (blue). That's why they stood out and you didn't fail to notice! :)
The opening scene where Gahyeon throws the cage from her head is a metaphor that the doppelganger is finally free from the underground (it's a certain place in Us where the "copies" reside) and ready to take over the life of the original. I also heard from Handong that the mannequins covered in black cloth are their souls, being trapped.
I can't say more about the story of this music video because somebody might have already explained. But I would like to add something about a certain lyric sang by SuA: "Your face is blue with fright
Like an ocean view" I guess it means that the person turned blue from being choked. Or another metaphor of being so sick from the toxic relationship.

At first I was not in love with chorus, but now It growing on me. BUT I really like Dami's rap and bridge here

Yeah the first verse and chorus felt a little too "playful" and like "cute" to me but in the last chorus I was already vibing. Plus it's so catchy! "BE...cause I like you, I like you!" 🎶 I love that line 😆 And yeees their visuals! Everyone looks so stunning, each comeback I am amazed at how they get more and more beautiful 😍
With the pillar wipe shot, they had to cut right then because Jiu was hiding behind it watching the others and she suddenly came into frame. If you go frame by frame you can see her hand on the pillar right as it gets to left of the screen before the next shot cuts in. The behind the scenes video showed the steadycam operatort swinging back to focus on her and she bursts out laughing.
I did see the hand! I cut it out cause I was just speculating about why it’s there, I thought maybe the shot continued with SuA or something. That’s too funny haha JiU is so cute 🤣

The question isn't what is Jiu doing to Gahyeon but the other way around. Its believed that Gahyeon has taken over Jiu's body and trapped her in the dark realm where the doppelgangers live. Jiu looking super dead at the end next to Gahyeon supports this theory. They have already confirmed that the mv is heavily inspired by the film "US".
