Three days later on Feb. 20th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #10 and spent 14 weeks on the Top 100 And on January 28th, 1965 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the U. K. The guys disliked Denny so much, they encouraged him to quit the band, and go. NOW! That was the biggest hit for the Moody Blues, a cover of a Southern black soul singer in America, Bessie Banks, who's husband had written the song for her. She never had a chance. Check out their 1965 single "Everyday" b/w "You Don't(All The Time)". An expanded 2-CD edition of the group's first UK album "Magnificent Moodies" will be released in the UK in late November 2014. Denny Laine, Clint Warwick, Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder and Graeme Edge. Pretty good, but with no real second single behind it, and basically playing covers of US R&B tunes, this band had to find an identity, and fast, with the Beatles and others in the British Invasion dropping the covers and writing and performing their own songs. Didn't happen: Laine left and Warwick followed, so Pinder, Edge and Thomas had to find that help, and Hayward and Lodge filled the bill.
Starting in mid-1965, all of the group's songs were original, written by Denny Laine & Mike Pinder. The group's inability to complete and release a second album hindered their commercial progress. In June 1966, the group(and American producer Denny Cordell) recorded some songs towards a second album, which was never released. The non-release of the album resulted in Denny Laine going solo 3 months later. The unreleased recordings will be heard in late November 2014 on a UK expanded 2-CD edition of "Magnificent Moodies", the group's UK debut album.
Problem was, none of the post-"Go Now" tracks were considered to be commercial enough by Decca (UK), and a couple released didn't sell The band changed personnel, with Laine and Warwick leaving and Hayward and Lodge joining; Tony Clarke was assigned to the new group to try and get a viable commercial single out of them. The first couple of singles in '66 and '67, one by Hayward, one by Pinder, did not do well, and they were then assigned to do a rock/classical demo album that eventually became "Days of Future Passed", with Hayward emerging as a hit songwriter. Had that not occured, the Moody Blues would likely have been a one-hit 1964 wonder.

Okay, I just realized they never did any other American Shows. Not American Bandstand and Where The Action is, Shivaree, or even Ed Sullivan, why was that?
It looks like they were in shock bc this song was making them re-live their own breakups. Especially the last girl on the left. Don't you remember how much it all meant when we were teenagers?
Because they are watching on the montiors. The Moodys were in London as Brian Epstein hosted a filmed segment on the show highlighting British bands. It would be several years before the Moodys got big in the US.
When did you put this up? I've been wanting to hear a mostly live version of this for a long time. The band may have recorded everything but the vocals that day. OR; it could be all the way live too. It's hard to tell.

Brian filmed several clips for Hullabaloo as part of a "Sounds of London" segment to feature some of the up and coming British acts that hadn't hit the US yet. "Go Now" was a UK #1, and reached #10 in the US Billboard charts (#6 on the Cashbox chart). Only US top 10 hit for the Laine-era Moodies.
Two other folks who would have been brilliant would be Motown Funk Brother "Ivory" Joe Hunter Piano Player and Jack Ashford Tambourine Player. Those guys played as if you owed them Money.

Wow. That was a great live performance. Why is it so hard to find a good sounding studio copy of this song?
I have the record, will let you have it as it is in my discard pile. Near mint album, reissue from the 70's, has Go Now on it.
Jim Spindler Thanks, but I don't have anything to play vinyl on.
Jim Spindler have stereo and my old worn out 45 of this tune
jennifur sun Might be worth something. People collect 45s, and that could be rare.
Jim Spindler mine is really used
They use to play this at the end of show at the filmore east, to get you to leave
Brian Epstein enjoying the song!
I love

I love this....It's a kind of "beatlemania" too
Piano solo 👍👍
Great clip, Jill! This was from the 'London' version of Hullabaloo, hosted by Brian Epstein (who watched from side like a mother hen, lol!) I have clips with Gerry & The Pacemakers, and The Searchers.

@@michaelacquavella7987 That's Mike Pinder on the piano. Brian Epstein was hosting the show, standing off to the side @ 2:08.

Michael, I think you need to work on your keyboard skills.
Hasn't anyone else noticed Brian Epstein grooving away in the clip.....perhaps he was the compere of Hullabaloo on this show? Anyone know more details. He certainly seemed impressed. What a sad ending for such a tortured genius. Bring on the R and Roll Hall of fame.
Yes, at 2:15 I saw him grooving to the song and I thought, "What? That's Brian Epstein! What's he doing in this?" Yeah, I noticed him, too :)
He was probably their manager. Check Wikipedia maybe
Jim Spindler wasn't hullabaloo the show that had little bits of what was happening in england portion of the show? i'll bet this is
david minchin maybe it's from being around the Beatles
The trousers....he was impressed with their trousers...
Great song. But seriously, how hot were Mike and Ray? Wow!!
Still 💕 this

@@dennylaine8735 I was aware of you “back in the day” and loved the Moody Blues - I didn’t really follow you post Moody Blues, though. In the past couple of years I have rediscovered you and your amazing voice; I actually watch you on U Tube a couple of times a week now ❤️.

RIP Denny Laine.
I wonder where Denny Laine's Rose Morris 1998 is now. Note that the accent tremelo arm has been removed.

It's safe to assume that this was before Justin Hayward joined the group.
Yes. Denny Laine (guitar, vocal) and Clint Warwick (bass, vocals) left in 1966
Okay, I just realized they never did any other American Shows. Not American Bandstand and Where The Action is, Shivaree, or even Ed Sullivan, why was that?
I can actually here a little bit of guitar here - nice cover song- the original is also amazing but hard to find.
The audience is just sitting there, no ones moving.
I'll bet they were told to be quiet. In those days all you would have heard was screaming girls.
It looks like they were in shock bc this song was making them re-live their own breakups. Especially the last girl on the left. Don't you remember how much it all meant when we were teenagers?
It's the EARLY Monty Python version, including John Cleese and Eric Idle
sweet
Gone
Denny, goodbye.
Why does the audience look like they're in a coma?;-)
Because they are watching on the montiors. The Moodys were in London as Brian Epstein hosted a filmed segment on the show highlighting British bands. It would be several years before the Moodys got big in the US.
When did you put this up? I've been wanting to hear a mostly live version of this for a long time. The band may have recorded everything but the vocals that day. OR; it could be all the way live too. It's hard to tell.
On my bucket list is to learn to play the piano better!!!!;-)

Brian Epstein sitting there @ 2:43?
Brian filmed several clips for Hullabaloo as part of a "Sounds of London" segment to feature some of the up and coming British acts that hadn't hit the US yet. "Go Now" was a UK #1, and reached #10 in the US Billboard charts (#6 on the Cashbox chart). Only US top 10 hit for the Laine-era Moodies.
EPPY!!!!
Justin from the moody blues not in go now
Two other folks who would have been brilliant would be Motown Funk Brother "Ivory" Joe Hunter Piano Player and Jack Ashford Tambourine Player. Those guys played as if you owed them Money.

Was that Brian Epstein?
I was not a big fan of Brits invasion stuff, hated the Beatles, but I liked this and still do. Great, great live stuff. AS good as the record. Denny was too good. Moody Blues was good later but this was the best.
