I just know some basics and have been learning some hiragana/katakana on duolingo and I was so happy I understood almost everything lol. It helps that spanish is my native language since it makes the pronunciation easier to understand tho
I've literally the opposite problem I can read kanji just fine but when I see the kanji in hiragana my brain shuts down and I haven't the slightest clue why

@karinasantana6278 I'd recommend the latest version of genki. I honestly prefer it. Although it is a textbook, Tokini Andy does a good explanation of each chapters which has helped me a lot if I didn't understand something
I hated the writing japanese in the tests. In my opinion, when are you going to realistically going to write japanese? If you go to a japanese college youll most likely bring a computer and type it out since its way faster

10:00 - The 4 and 7 tripped me up... that's interesting: Wikipedia: As noted above, yon (4) and nana (7) are preferred to shi and shichi. It is purported that this is because shi is also the reading of the word death (死), which makes it an unlucky reading (see tetraphobia); while shichi may sound too similar to ichi (1), shi or hachi (8).

Whatever method of language learning this is, is NOT compatible with my mind. No wonder I shut down so much in Spanish and later ASL classes growing up. Granted this is a hyper condensed/customized lesson for a UA-cam channel, so maybe that's it. But whatever method of language learning this is? My mind would go utterly blank and no matter HOW much I try to focus something in my head would say, "Give up. You're just not going to comprehend this anyway."
It actually looks like something out of a Michel Thomas method. It's a slow-pace method. I don't like a lot, but can be very good for a headstart. Check it out, it might actually change your mind.
@@mypoorbraincells well European language contains 24 languages and the ones I know it English Italian Russian that is how but the only way I usually learn my language is I go to Google Translate then I choose the language then I choose the word and I try saying it before and if I get it that means I passed and if I don't know the word I usually hear the word then it usually stays in my head
