Mondraker Foxy Carbon 29 - Stunning Ride, Disappointing Value

  • Mondraker's long-travel 29er is an accomplished and exciting platform. It's definitely one for riders who prefer an active feel with plenty of feedback though, and those who insist on good value need not apply.

    OMG... I have anew Mondraker and I'm in the USA.I had a Pivot and hated it. The Mondraker geometry is the best I have ever ridden in a bike. I don't know about this one here, I have the Dusk RR eMTB but now I want the non eMTB version as well, I love it that much. It is the best handling MTB I have ever ridden and fits my style to the T.

      Agreed...I'm hoping that direct sale bike companies like YT and Canyon will force companies like Mondraker to be more reasonable with their pricing. That's the route I went with a Capra CF Pro Race 29er, more goodies for less cash.The Mondraker is a lovely bike none the less.

      The more interesting frames are even more expensive than carbon frames except Unno frames.

      @@jaystewart3820 The calibre bossnut is the classic recommendation at that price, but there's also the Jamis Dakar too that we've reviewed. There's a Fuji too i think - around £1000. loads of great hardtails below that price, from the likes of Norco, Saracen etc.

    I love my Alloy Foxy. But the only reason I bought it was because good deals could be found on the 2018 models sitting in showrooms. It has made me a long bike believer. I am 5'9" and I ride a medium Foxy. The fit is perfect and the ride is stable and fast. I would recommend anyone interested in a Foxy to look at previous year models or used. That is where the value can be found. The frames really are excellent and are worth a look. Also the OnOff components are top notch.

    • @huntsman670
      @huntsman670 4 роки тому

    470 reach, is quite decent for me, I think I could go to 490,currently ride on 430. I am 180cm. So far think nicolai might be best solution for me. BTW if u think nicolai is too long you can down size or get cusrum size. I am not sure it's good choice to get carbon frame. I hope temperature changes won't effect the bb shell, as alloy shrinks faster than carbon, I don't want loose bb shell. I have no experience with this but I ride in - 10c, and changing temperatures.

      Thanks Tamas. I think the progression in geometry is a very personal thing - Seb would argue that bikes aren't too long, and I would argue that, for me, I know what my sweet spot is in terms of comfort, ride-ability and 'feel'. I'd say that people should try bikes of different lengths, before they spend their $$$

    Not high way, but trail robbery going on in the bike world. I still have a Mondraker Factor R from 2007 and used to recommend the brand to everyone because of the fair quality to price ratio. Especially for somebody starting out in MTB back then. But with pricing like this without top specs (and even with top specs) it's a brand to forget about.

  • @hawgietonight

    I haven't heard from Mondraker in a very long time, they had a very bad rep, their frames snapped constantly, and this firsthand from real ppl I know. Nobody would touch them with a 10 ft pole. Just recently a friend surpised me with his Crafty and my first thought was to ask what he was smoking. Maybe they changed their chinese supply and now have reliable bikes, who knows, anyway at this price it "ain't gonna be me"
