Thee is a LARGE market for hardtail xc bikes. Having lived in southeast Asia, and raced for the past 5 years in Thailand, The hardtail is the weapon of choice.. Thailand has very few races course that have rocks, and most course are hardpackdirt with little technically challenging terrain. The cheaper price makes a carbon hardtail affordable to many racers there. Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia have similar terrain, as do other countries around the globe. the XC racing scene in Thailnand has grown rapidly in the past half decade and with afforadable and competitive hardtail carbon frames, it 's bound to continue to grow.
i have no intensions of racing mbt any time soon, but i do enjoy riding a lot. Im getting tired of my hard tail battering my ass and im seriously considering a FS bike for leisure and comfort!
They might be putting shorter stems on smaller bikes to allow for longer top tubes & wheelbases, which in turn decreases toe overlap, which can be a problem on smaller bikes.
You know, several brands are making ultra light frames like Specialized, Mondraker and before Scott, but the whole still ways between 20-22 lbs when a brand like ax-lightness with a xc hardtail frame at 870gr , but with a total bike weight at around 15lbs or 6,9kg same weight as a pro road bike !!
Around 750g with threaded bottom bracket......learn from this manufacturers. For the average joe that not compete "majority of people", no one cares about 20-30g of weight and 5%more stiffness, just give me the convenience and hassle free threaded bb. Thank you Mondraker and Specialized for the good example. Keep the good work.
in the consumer space, gravel bikes are taking over the niche now occupied by xc ht mtbs... the only remaining change is for flared bars to go completely flat
I disagree. A gravel bike is great as a bike which can do flat XC races and work on the road too, but an XC race hardtail will have more suspension, making it more capable when it gets rough. Also, the XC HT can fit wider tyres, for more grip. Neither bike is going anywhere.
Yeah but not all variance is equally distributed. The quoted tolerance is likely normally distributed meaning that very few frames will even approach the max tolerance. Assuming the standard is six sigmas about that mean, that means 95% of frames will actually be within 10g….
The previous PODIUM is much prettier than this one. Mondraker has sacrificed aesthetics in exchange for 100 grams. Big mistake. This bike loses its essence.
There will be lots of people (weight weenies) watching this and thinking I've got to get this due to the 15g saving. Do they consider the 3 chocolate biscuits they've eaten whilst watching the video? 🙇♀️
I’ll take the 15 gram weight penalty if you can even call it that to have a Epic Hardtail with a THREADED BB, which weighs substantially more than press fit.
Thank you for contents like this. GMBN has already considered XC as a non MTB genre 😂

Love XC hardtails...currently riding 2018 TREK Procaliper 9.8...with dropper it is weighing in at 23lbs
If only they could’ve matched the logo color with the fork color

I think XC bikes will catch on soon. The majority of people that ride off road just do it for leisure rather than huge jumps and such.

Old comment, but I’m totally loving that everyone’s giving up on pressfit now 😂
last time i was this early specialized epic was still the lightest hardtail
XC is best thank you!!!
the previous podium with integrated stem was looked much better, this is just another bike with some diferent angles

How to get this bike in Canada ?
6:09 always wondered this!?!?! Makes no sense to me, other than one guy started doing it and the others followed.
The cost compared to specialized epic?
Mondraker podium I like bike
Yay threaded BB
Great bike but I would not be able to afford the prices on these grids.
That’s a lot of money for a bike without a front derailleur.

Damn 17-20lbs? Wow..
If Specialized allows for a 30g (4%) tolerance for their frame weight - it's a worrying thing to learn 😱
It’s 2% tolerance because it is either 15g above or 15g below the targeted weight.
@@rearanged my bad - you are absolutely right - 2%

Mondraker Podium...Lol.They never gonna get it at a podium in WC anyway, but the might think its´s enough to name it Podium

I see bike radar, I see a topic I like, then I see this plum presenting, then I turn it off.
Thanks for the feedback Matthew! What shall I do different next time?
Cheers!
