Hi Dr Bolin, I'm a 3rd year medical student from Australia (and no I'm not doing the USMLE), just wanted to say thanks for all of your videos. I've been going through them for the past year or so as one of my primary resources and have found them invaluable

PhenylalanineTyrosine Metabolism and Pathology thereof is nicely narrated herein: 1) Phenylketonuria (PKU) with its musty odor, Growth Retardation, Fair Complexion and Neurological Symptoms (Seizures and Intellectual Disability) has the deficiency of Phenylalanine Hydroxylase (Tx: Phenylalanine/Aspartame Restriction and Tyrosine/BH4 Supplementation) and Diagnosis thereof has Phenyl Ketones and Phenylalaninosis and Tyrosinopenia; 2) Malignant PKU (SSx: More Severe Symptoms of PKU) lacks Dihydrobiopterin Reductase enzyme with Laboratory Finding of Dopaminopenia and Prolactinosis. Treatment involves Tyrosine/BH4 Supplementation and Phenylalanine Restriction; 3) Oculocutaneous Albinism's Enzyme Deficiency is Tyrosinase with the characteristic Albinism profile and ophthalmopathy (Symptomatic Treatment of UV Protection); and 4) Ochronosis (Alkaptonuria) is lacking Homogentisate Oxidase and manifesting as Joint Pain, Blue Discoloration, and Blue Color Urine upon Oxidation. Its Diagnosis is Clinical And Laboratory finds Homogentisate Elevation and Urinalysis aforementioned Findings. Treatment is Restriction of Phenylalanine and Tyrosine. These pathologies are Autosomal Recessive Congenital Metabolic Disorders. I have just treated my first albino patient and he could only hear me! Just kidding. MD Bolin, du bist Arzter der Aerzter, Uberall Deutschland!

what do you mean with germany :-)?
The common opinion about L-Phenylalanin is, it supresses hunger.
But its also in the sweetner aspartam. But why then aspartam makes thick???
phenylalanine (PHE), a known inhibitor of intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP), a gut enzyme shown to prevent metabolic syndrome...
okay so what is true now..does L-Phanylalanin makes us thick or thin?

L phenylalanine is in aspartame and aspartame is bad for you. What's the question here? Do you lack basic logic?
If I put green tea in my chocolate milkshake and that milkshake makes me fat, is green tea making me fat?

L phenylalanine may help prevent metabolic disorders. How would that result in fat gain?

@@breakmanradio2530 just because L-Phenylalanin is in something considered bad, dosen´t make L-Phenylalanin automatically innocent.Think. Dosen´t neccesarrily mean if you isolate it from aspartame and take it on its own, its going to be healthy or conducive. Also your example is lacking. Green tea isn´t a inherent part of a milkshake, a milkshake is usually without green tea . And its without it already a milkshake (and i do not know one person drinking milkshake with green tea besides you but ok).But Aspartame isn´t aspartame without L-Phenylalanin, its not possible. I questioned why the alleged effect of L-Phenylalanin does not come into frution within aspartame and why even the opposite effect of L-Phenylalanin is comming to pass, because L-Phenylalanin should prevent this from happening and even turn it around. But its dosen´t! So does it even have this effect which sb. somewhere has adjuged to it?
