I was a lil worried when she pecked at him cuz it could've been toward the chicks. I'm not very educated when it comes to birds, especially what they do with their beaks to their children. I was afraid she was gonna peck their eyes out 😅

@@uniwolfgamer1094 broody hens who are protecting eggs or new chicks will peck at anything that comes close enough to take their babies. I have a pet hen who goes broody often, even though none of the eggs are fertilized because she won’t accept our rooster. She won’t peck at me, but that’s very rare for a broody hen to not peck. She’s just very tame and loves me. However, she does scream at me the same way the hen in this video screams 😂 In fact, my hen is in my bedroom right now because I’m trying to make her snap out of it. They will sit on an empty nest until they starve if you let them. I’m considering getting some fertilized eggs for her to hatch ❤ She is insanely maternal. I just don’t want her to quit eating to try to hatch invisible eggs ☹️

The sound of new chicks making little noises is so cute and precious. I just love the way they hop around and make a little noise and then they follow mom around pecking and scratching exactly like she does. When night comes they Gather under her wings to keep warm while they sleep. Some of the happiest times in my childhood were watching my bantam rooster and bantam hen. They were so tiny and adorable, and the rooster had a beautiful cock-A doodle Doo. When she laid her eggs they were *tiny*. And when those chicks hatched they were so tiny I was afraid to touch them. That was the most beautiful animal family I ever experienced personally. The bantam hen was an excellent mother.

I’ve had chickens all my life until last year when I had to move. I think the most unique thing I have ever seen was when one of my chickens I swore I thought we’re gone entirely took off and came back with 20 chicks. While raising them she got tired of them she didn’t really want them and I was getting worries but another one of my heads adopted all fo them. She didn’t lay the eggs or hatch them but she adopted 20 3 month old chicks and raised them as they’re own. She loved them so much and it was such a site too see

This is amazing! In my experience, if a chick hatches even one day after the others the hen will kill it-or at best ignore it. Ducks, too. I’ve hand-raised my share of chicks and ducklings.
Once, I took a duckling to church with me because I discovered it when I “just happened to” look in in the nest on my way out. It hatched later, and mama wasn’t interested in him at all. I wrapped him in a hanky and held him to keep warm. All went well until the last 10 minutes of the service, when Dinky suddenly decided to announce his presence. Fortunately, I was sitting in the back, but I had to leave quickly because ducklings are shockingly loud!

The times I hear that a friends neighbour in a part of London found a sparrow chick which had obviously fallen from its nest though was alive. Not being able to find the nest, the neighbour tried her best to hand rear the chick to no avail. I kept on thinking if only I was notified I would have collected the chick and done the right thing.

You made that broody Mama Hen's dream with so many babies! Mama Hen said I will hatch them all and the human said I can help. Then the Mama Hen said you can help but I will raise them all! So cute.

Had a chicken that would dig really deep holes, wide enough to sit and cover the hole and during summer the ground was getting enough heat to keep the entire nest warm. She would steal all of the other chickens eggs which is funny watching a chicken pushing eggs under their wings and walking long distances with them because she refused to nest in the pen where she would be safe. She'd move the eggs whenever the nest was found if she hadn't already started sitting on the nest. She only liked sitting on gigantic clutches of 30+ eggs. She was very good at hiding her nests and sometimes didn't find her until she came out with babies. If her nest was in the shed or barn we'd leave her because that was safter then some of the locations she had nests. She was my best mother and named Mother Hen as a result and would take babies that my other chickens rejected.

Thank you sooo much for thIs; the very best part of my adolescence was chicks and ducklings. And loved those fluffy, bossy, pecky hens. This was pure joy.

I was surprised that the young chicks, hatched so many days apart, didn't get pick on brutally by the older chicks. I'm glad you documented this. It was fun to watch.

Talk about spreading oneself thin... all jokes aside, this is so wonderful. 2nd edit: just a few months ago I had two hens go broody at the same time, for the same eggs, in the same nest. I messed that up. My fault, tried to split it up between them. It backfired, and I take the blame. But, those two hens managed to co-hatch and co-raise this one little chick, AND successfully introduce her into the flock. She is in young love with Louie, the second-rooster-in-charge, and she's thriving.

Super mom! Wow! We had a large hen who would not lay on her own eggs, but immediately and insistently adopted every chick she could find. Different breeds, ages, etc. She was a sweetheart. We had a few who hoarded eggs in a crevice somewhere, but they were less than successful. Seemed it was usually our bantam hens who got broody and tried to hatch out dozens of normal sized eggs....unsuccessfully. Great job with this batch, to her, and to you!

I had a bantam sitting on regular eggs! You could tell they weren't gonna thrive, so I left her w/ half and put half in my incubator. She had only 3 of her own eggs and they hatched 2 days after the regular eggs in the incubator did! That's 5 days late! I didn't think they'd be normal, but all were fine! I gave them back to her as they pipped. She hatched babies for 4 days this past Halloween, 15 in all, 12 were as big as her in no time! Bantams definitely have a rep for being good broody moms.

I had a Button Quail who was incubating 22 eggs. She used to roll the eggs continuously back under her, meaning that others would be pushed away. With this process the eggs were more or less obtaining a fairly balanced incubation. It was great to observe the process.

Once all my eggs from my hens went missing, and I was getting at most two a day when the average is about eight. About a week later I find the smallest hen I have sitting on sixteen eggs! Sadly it was fall and the chicks probably would not have survived so I couldn't let her hatch them, but it was crazy to see her that dedicated.

I had successful hatches on Halloween and again 4 days before Thanksgiving! It was 17 degrees here the other day, everyone is fine!
