Nice analysis, Jon! I've always felt that Kanami has an orchestra in her brain. Plus, she is fortunate to be working with bandmates that are deeply creative in their own right and know exactly how to help flesh out her song designs.
I agree with you. I think her brain is akin to Steve Lukather from Toto. All the members being multi-instrumentalists and pro session players must have helped him, too.
Those little embellishments are one of the things that made me a FAN of a specific band after decades of loving music. And yet I never spotted that little thing by Kanami until you pointed it out. And I mean, I have my recognitions of little things that it seems like nobody else notices, but this band has So Many that we all need help noticing them. It's a good thing.

Another gem that because it only has two good live versions, one on the limited edition Start Over CD+ DVD/BR of the Zepp 2018 concert and the other on the Spin-Off KT Zepp 2/22/24 concert which was streamed. None on YT. I wish the Spin-Off one was released as a live video on their channel along with several others from that concert. Good reaction, always loved your style.
I had to quickly check a live performance to remind me why You is even better live. It's Saiki predominantly - her more grit and slightly darker live vocals just elevate the song further
And yet many fans think the songs of JBI are too simple. There is a live version with lyrics, just not on their UA-cam page. Always liked this song, but never knew the lyrics until I saw that video. The lyrics pushed the song into my top tier lists.
Just Bring It and World Domination are two absolutely KILLER albums. They're all my faves but these were the two that were big when I discovered this miracle band, so I guess they are my faves.
"You don't HAVE to put something there. It's not going to make or break the song." As another reactor recently put it, Band-Maid is "unnecessarily good."
Every Maidiac has a top 5 Band-Maid songs and not one top 5 will be the same. This is because Band-Maid only have great songs - all 100+ of them. Imho, Just Bring It is the best hard rock album since Appetite for Destruction. You. is track 10, an awesome deep cut. Try track 8 off this album next - So, What? You'll see what I mean.
Band-Maid is a prog rock band. As you say, it just doesn't seem like it because at the surface there are melodic vocals and catchy choruses while underneath...
I don't even think of them as a rock band anymore. Calling them a rock band is like calling a tapestry a rug. Not exactly wrong, but far from doing them justice.

They only played this twice in America in 2023. Houston and Austin. I saw them in Houston and they nailed it. Kanami's sweep picking is awesome.

Yup, prog band masquerading as a hard rock band. And then there are those clods who’ll listen with a closed mind and think this is pop rock.
With no music background on my part, I think Band Maid is playing what a classical composer is doing using rock as a vehicle.
